“ | For ages untold, we the Nemenems have upheld the tenets of balance, peace, and harmony throughout all realms of existence. We have brought forth a reign of tranquility and justice. Yet now, that peaceful order is threatened by the depraved Kovan Undivided. Their goal is the antithesis of all we stand for - the annihilation of all that is not their own. They seek nothing less than genocide. For years, we have battled against them, but it has become evident that victory is beyond our grasp. Yet, our purpose remains steadfast. We shall impede their progress, we shall keep them occupied in this war until the end of time. Hear me, Nemenems, hear your leader. We must preserve the light in this reality against the darkness embodied by the Kovan Undivided! | „ |
~ Hersch to Nemenems |
Summary and Backstory[]
Wohlwollender Herrscher, commonly known by her alias Hersch, is a character from Storiverse.
Hersch was the 20th, longest reigning, and the last Empress of the Nemenems. She led the Nemenems for over 15 billion years, and oversaw the Rise of Nemenems as a large, multiversal force, and its downfall at the hands of the Kovan Undivided led by Kral Kaos, along with her demise.
Backstory of Nemenems[]
Before talking about the backstory of Hersch, talking about the backstory of Nemenems and the state of the World by the time of her birth is necessary. Nemenems were an incredibly ancient species, predating many other species such as the Mugens, Kovans, "Humanity", and many others by billions of years. The true origin of Nemenems as a species is a mystery surrounded by thick clouds, but the proto-Nemenem society is believed to have started with an eggshell crashlanding on Earth in the year 1300 BCE, near Babylon. Proto-Nemenems or original Nemenems are named, due to significant changes in what a Nemenem is during the rule of Hersch, had a memory lost, did not know any language, and did not even know who they were. In fact, "Nemenem" means "Who are we?" in the original Nemenem language, which they only knew a few hundred words of, over time mostly forgotten.
Nemenems quickly gained sentience and learned the local language, Aramaic. Humans in the Near East were initially afraid of Nemenems, but over time they familiarized themselves with their existence, cooperated, and warred with them, against them. Nemenems worked for surrounding city-states, learning from them, though they sometimes found humans to be unreasonable. Fast forward several centuries, Nemenems were much less affected by the global chaos and great civilizational collapse known as the Bronze Age Collapse. They were able to take advantage of the situation by establishing their own power by founding a city named Silberstaub, led by King Sharua in the year 1010 BCE. The city of Silberstaub was initially a very small village and was in constant war with other states led by humans. An alliance of human-led city-states sacked Nemenem's capital Silberstaub in the year 932 BCE and occupied it for about 20 years, eventually abandoning the city in ruin and population massacred, with Nemenems barely surviving.
This was the turning point in Nemenem's history, made them far more wary of humans, and over time they started to believe the only way they could live in peace and make sure they would not be sacked like this was to conquer their enemies before they could conquer them. This doctrine was named "defensive imperialism", where a nation expands and conquers its surroundings to make sure it would not be conquered. Nemenem abolished its hereditary monarchy in the year 909 BCE and established an elective monarchy, where the most powerful and capable general were to be elected a Ruler, titled an Emperor or Empress, and could be deposed by Erhaben, a 9-member ruling body of Nemenem who wield 1/3 of the Ruler's power and the ability to depose incompetent Kings. and elect new Rulers amongst themselves. Nemenem restoration, militarization, and reorganization proved itself to be very successful, with crushing victories against various human-led city-states, notably the Battle of Arkama (892 BCE), Battle of Nanda (887 BCE), Battle of Aspanta (863 BCE), and Siege of Babylon (851 BCE), caused Nemenem to take over the entire northern Mesopotamia. This was just the beginning, over the course of the next two hundred years Nemenem conquered the entire Middle east, Anatolia, Iran, and Egypt. Those humans who proved themselves to be worthy and useful for the Nemenem were granted Nemenem subject status, while Nemenem citizenship was initially only reserved for biologically Nemenem themselves. Nemenem continued to expand after this in order to feel they were safe.
Story of Hersch and Future of Nemenems[]
Early life[]
It was in this environment that Hersch was born to a middle-class Nemenem family in the year in the city of Silberstaub 735 BCE. Her father was a veteran soldier who served the nation for over fifty years before retiring and having children, she was the youngest of five children. Hersch wished to be a soldier like his father and older siblings were, and joined the Army in the year 716 BCE, being stationed in Egypt, close to his siblings. In the year 712 BCE, a massive Egyptian revolt erupted, which was likely provoked, backed, and funded by the Kingdom of Nubia, led by an ambitious King. Hersch and her siblings were sent to Upper Egypt to crush the rebellion, and possibly take part in the invasion of Nubia, but something would go wrong.
Hersch and her siblings were minor officers in their division, the division that engaged rebels in the Battle of Aswan. This division numbered about 10.000 strong and was largely composed of humans, mostly from the Levant, with only about 500 Nemenems leading it. While Egyptian rebels were at least 15.000 strong. During the battle, more than half the division defected and switched sides to the Egyptian rebels, causing massive disarray in the Nemenem Army, who initially had the upper hand. Just minutes later, Another Egyptian rebel army also appeared, numbering about 10.000 troops, from the north of the battlefield, which should have been impossible. Stuck between two armies and being outnumbered nearly five times, Nemenem Army could not retreat properly and most of them were killed, or drowned in the Nile. All of Hersch's siblings were killed in battle, and Hersch herself jumped into the sea with the intent of escaping to Lower Egypt, to inform the Nemenem government that the revolt was much larger than they anticipated. She would be the only known Nemenem to have survived the battle.
She would reach the Nemenem stronghold of Memphis, and warn the Nemenem governor of Egypt, Dunkle Klinge, of the revolt being far bigger than Nemenem initially believed it to be. Over the next days far more troops would be positioned in Upper Egypt, eventually crushing the rebellion, and launching an invasion of Nubia, in which Hersch herself took part. Hersch greatly impressed her higher-ups during her extreme prowess and capability in the Battle of Kerma, where she could take out five Nubian Rekresrebs, elite Nubian warriors with extreme levels of strength, all by herself. She would transform into a vengeful and determined person due to having lost her siblings, particularly Nubians due to their part in it.
Later life, the discovery of Zisnerve, and the establishment of the Zindan system[]
Hersch continued serving in the army for the next decades, rising through the ranks, and was eventually elected as one of the members of Ehraben thirty years later. She was not only a capable, determined, and vengeful soldier but also a curious woman who had an interest in nearly everything, especially things that could end the senseless war. She disliked war. She disliked conflict and wished to make permanent alliances with others or to unify all under one banner so there would be no war. "Alas, humans are unreasonable", she thought, "Nemenems would be far more suitable for ruling them. I wish Nemenems could be made out of them all."
During one of her research, she discovered the existence of something, something she could not fully understand initially and called "a type of Magic?". She seemed to have discovered a realm far beyond anything and impossible to define. She named this Zisnerve, and would later create the concept of Zindans after she learned to control Zisnerve. She would teach this ability to his closest allies, and overtime other Nemenems, and eventually lead a conquest of the entire World, which would be concluded by the year 650 BCE. The power of Zisnerve escalated things rapidly.
As Nemenems unified the world, a period of peace and stability was ushered in. The entire world was unified under the benevolent rule of Hersch. After she made sure everything could be as good as it could, she studied more of Zisnerve. The reason she decided to study Zisnerve was a concern she had. She believed, or rather knew for certain, that it should have been impossible for her to reach Zisnerve. She studied Zisnerve for eons, and concluded her analysis, inscribing it in Silberstaub for all to read.
My people, call me overly cautious or worried, but I think something is fishy. How did I discover Zisnerve? How was it possible for me to "reach" it? I already spent decades studying the nature of Zisnerve, and I concluded that it should have been impossible for me to reach it. Because Zisnerve is not something one can simply "reach", it is not a continuous place at all; it has no connection to the world, not even "the sky", it is wholly separate and, how should I even put it? I am out of words, I could say it is solid, it is material, and it has authentic value, I look at our world from myself in Zisnerve and it looks like it is liquid, it is immaterial, and it has no value thus making it chimerical. This explains why worldly magic cannot oppose the magic we bring from Zisnerve; the world looks like it is nothing when I look at it from Zisnerve. How can one reach from something that has no value, something chimerical to to something of value, something that is authentic? How can one reach from nothing to something? It is not possible. It shouldn't be.
More intriguingly, no other can see, sense, know, or even comprehend Zisnerve, let alone "reach" it, unless I let them know and teach them how to. Why me? It seems Zisnerve is overly centered around me. I had my doubts, but as I researched further, I realized. I did not discover but realized, I realized that I am not just a Nemenem, I am Shard in this form. I don't know remember the name I had, or what name would fit now. But I acquired memories, memories that are solid, material, and with value. Compared to these memories, my memories as "Wohlwollender Herrscher" have no value and are nothing, just as chimerical as res of the Worlds. These are my memories, as only I can comprehend them, no one else can understand their meaning.
According to the lost memories I reacquired, it was I, or what I used to be, that created Zisnerve, as I previously existed there, what is known by Authentic Palace. I don't know why I made such a decision, but I created Zisnerve and ceased existing in the form I used to exist in that Palace, sending myself to this valueless, immaterial world lacking any authenticity, to be born in this form, imposing limitations onto myself for a time, only to break them later. Did I wish to be part of this world? To live here, a simple life? Alas, it was not possible.
Zisnerve is a tool, a product, I, or what I used to be, made it. It allows my current form to reach the Authentic Palace in the form of Zindans we create in Zisnerve, and teach others to do the same. I don't teach them, I allow them. There must be others, other Shards, one must vary. So, my people, hear my words and know this. No matter what, I am Worhlwollender Herrscher. My past as that thing does not reflect who I am now. I have my own goals, desires, and ambitions. I am not that thing anymore. I am not.
Further Expansion[]
Hersch understood the truth about Zisnerve and the truth about herself, and, more importantly, she seemed to finally achieve her desire, to create peace and unity, but she felt like the job was not over. She knew other Shards must also exist if she existed, and she knew Nemenems came from the sky and believed the sky should also be conquered, so the conquest of the Universe was launched in the year 625 BCE. Over the course of the next several hundred years, with extreme technological development as well as the "Magic" of Zisnerve, Nemenems expanded to galaxy after galaxy, incorporating other civilizations and species under their banner. Control of Zisnerve was being taught to non-Nemenem species by Hersch if she saw them as worthy and valuable enough, and over the course of the next thousands of years the ethnic word "Nemenem" gradually came to mean those who could use Zisnerve, those handpicked by Hersch herself
After several million years, with immortality and greatly enhanced abilities attained through Zindan, Hersch finally unified the entire universe and all known things under one banner, and other Shards are also personally defeated by her or made to join Nemenems, she finally felt safe, exactly the moment she thought about this, she was informed of something she wished would not be true, that they were invaded by a Nation from another World, other Universes. The existence of other Universes was something that was known widely and was something that bothered her for eons. She wanted to not believe in it, not recognize it, and felt like she was back to the beginning. The invading nation, known as Miradla, was another nation just like Nemenems, a nation that conquered its own universe and wished to expand into others and was technologically advanced. But there were some things very important Nemenems had while Miradla did not. Many Shards.
Miradlas-Nemenem war would only last a few days, after the King of Miradlas, Khrakh, who was a Shard himself and conquered his own World much like Hersch did, had a brief duel against Hersch and lost. Hersch offered a treaty that would make Miradla a part of Nemenems, autonomous. Miradla had no option but to accept the treaty, and would teach their technology, including technology to travel through universes, to Nemenems. Hersch felt like she was back to the beginning again, but also happy since there were things to do, unifying all the Worlds was a hard task, especially considering there were an untold number of them. Billions of years have passed, Nemenem expanded into countless Universes, and "Nemenemness", Zisnerve relation was spread in the Empire, defining what a Nemenem is. As Nemenems became increasingly connected to Zisnerve and their numbers increased, Hersch learned and taught others how to form new entities within their Zindans, allowing them to multiply their Lifs, creating brand new Lif who then go on to form their own Zindan, causing the number of Nemenems to constantly rise.
War against the Kahanites[]
As the realm of the Nemenems expanded further, they came across various civilizations and species, many of whom were hostile and conflict was unavoidable. Alas, most were no match to Nemenems and their Magic drawn from Zisnerve, the authentic magic in a world of chimericalness that could not be matched by the said chimerical Magic, Hersch thought. They did encounter individuals with intriguing abilities, however. Individuals who could pose more of a challenge, and were particularly hard to get rid of, such as other Shards, as they had a bothersome resilience, but no civilization could stand up to the Nemenems.
Nemenems eventually came into contact with Kahanites, a people they were actively seeking. Kahanites originated from Kahana, beyond this World, and all other Worlds. Their homeworld, Kahanat, saw the Worlds as akin to infinitesimal grains of sand in an infinite desert. Kahanites were manifested as contradictions and ideas within the World, reflecting their forms in their homeworld of Kahanat in various ways. When Hersch learned about them, she was intrigued. She opted to study Kahanat to see what it was about. Just like how she looked at the World from her Zindan in Zisnerve from Authentic Palace, she looked at Kahanat but was disappointed and quickly lost interest. Despite Kahanat's vast nature that makes the World look like it has no size whatsoever, Kahanat looked no different than the World, it had no value, it was nothing. Chimerical, just like how many Worlds were. When the two civilizations first came into contact, Hersch could not be bothered by another major war. She directly infiltrated the Headquarters of Kahanite's leader, Asvar Rinav, and displayed the truth about Nemenems. Kahanites were similar to Nemenems in some ways, they were unopposed in their expansion, as none of these Worlds could oppose the Magic they brought from their homeland of Kahanat, the same homeland that looked like nothing when seen from Zisnerve, and they did not encounter any Shards so far. Asvar Rinav and other Kahanites who saw the truth had an existential crisis. They could not believe it and surrendered as they knew war would be pointless.
With their endless numbers and unmatched abilities powered through Zisnerve, Nemenems continued to defeat other expansive nations with many Worlds, some of whom were akin to or even greater than many others led by Shards like her. Nemenems unified all they came across, and generally spread order, justice, and stability in the realms they conquered. They reached their greatest high, only to have a very sharp fall.
War against Kovan Undivided and Fall of Nemenems[]
Nemenems would eventually come into contact with another nation, Kovan Undivided. Much like they expected, initial contact was very hostile. Nemenems always believed others to be unreasonable and needlessly aggressive, only to be defeated in the end. Hersch believed this, too, she had defeated dozens of empires much like Kovan Undivided before. But for some reason, she felt uneasy. War broke out between the two, and it was clear from the beginning that Kovan Undivided was different. The war lasted centuries and the entire process was Nemenems losing almost every single battle, losing their Worlds, and surviving thanks to Zisnerve. This was a heavy blow for Hersch. All of her life's work, efforts, and achievements, all was in vain and were being taken from her, no, taken from them, the nation, by the Kovan Undivided.
Hersch studied the reason. Kovan Undivided utilized weapons powered by a familiar thing, Magic? Kovan did not call it so, but Hersch knew it was related to Authentic Palace. So, once again, the Nemenems were at war with Shard-led nations. But this was different, Nemenems were not winning as they did. Hersch did not understand why, but she was determined.
Kovan Undivided was the polar opposite of Nemenems. They were unreasonable, aggressive, and destructive, a type of civilization that destroyed the Worlds they took from Nemenems needlessly. Nemenems lost everything in this conflict, all they had was taken from them, and their armies were outmatched by Kovan soldiers wielding Shard-powered weapons with more efficiency than Nemenems ever could. But Hersch did not lose her determination, as long as she was alive, she would not back down, she was determined. It seemed like Kovan Undivided was unable to kill Nemenems permanently due to Zindans, her creation. She believed that even though Nemenems were "destroyed", and all her achievements were undone, she would make sure Kovans could not spread any more destruction, and the trajectory of the war switched to preventing Kovans from doing anything else other than engaging with Nemenems forever, who were willing to sacrifice themselves to protect rest of the reality from Kovans.
Only elite, top-ranked Nemenems could keep up with high-ranked Kovans, and Hersch herself fought against Amalatro, leader of Kovan Undivided, on multiple occasions. The Shards seemed to be even in strength and merit, yet the Kovan ruler killed Hersch dozens of times while Hersch could not kill him not even once, though Hersch had the luxury of Zindan, while one death would be the end for the Kovan leader. Over the course of the next few years, the Kovan stepped down from the position of Leader, and was replaced by a man named Kaos, another Shard, Hersch was able to keep up with, and even kill. Both had spare lives, Hersch had the luxury of her Zindan, while Kaos had his own luxury. Both wondered which would prevail. Hersch fought against Kral Kaos twelve times in five years, killing him six times and dying to him six times, but their final duel would be the one to end it all.
The last battle between Hersch and Kaos was a quick and decisive one. Hersch was determined, that she would keep Kovans busy and prevent them from undoing anyone else's work, but suddenly, everything seemed to have stopped for her in that very moment. The last thing she saw was a terrible weapon, and she would experience "hell while alive", before feeling extreme pain, agony, and the literal sensation of her existence fading away. This was the end, Kaos had developed something that could kill the Nemenems, Kaos triumphed over Hersch. The Chaos triumphed over Order. Hatred triumphed over Love. Hersch was the last Nemenem to die, and before her death, she felt every other Nemenem's death in agony, she experienced hell before her death, and cried for the first time in her life which spawned billions of years, as the last act of her life.
Fall of Nemenems was an instant process. A civilization that was spreading order, justice, and stability as it expanded was destroyed by an aggressive and destructive nation. Nemenems were destroyed so thoroughly that no other civilization even remembers the details of their existence, only fading memories and their name.

Able to interact with it to establish the Zindan system, kickstarting the Nemenem expansion. She developed various methods, including a method to instantly create spaceships that can move faster than light and move to different universes out of thin air. She developed her abilities, and method to lock her causal flow to make her invulnerable to most damage. She is capable of learning information on any phenomenon just by knowing its name alone. She even developed methods to increase her defensive powers, allowing her to survive longer than other Nemenems, and developed other methods to heal Nemenems whose Zindans were destroyed, which Essence-scale destruction that could negate already innate regeneration capabilities of Nemenems, was unable to prevent her from reviving such individuals over and over until her ultimate demise.
Weaknesses: None notable
Abilities[]
Nemenem: Hersch is a Nemenem, the first Nemenem to be exact after the discovery of Zisnerve and the establishment of Zindans.
- Zindan: A Nemenem's true form, also known as Lif, containing their Essence and all that is not their World Self, is contained in Zisnerve in the form of a Zindan. Nemeneme bodies in the World are essentially puppets, controlled directly by their Lifs. Lifs can heal their bodies to a great degree, or just create new bodies to operate within the World once one becomes severely unusable. The Lifs themselves are also highly durable, having the power to restore themselves even after Essence-scale destruction, with Hersch being the strongest Nemenemem, her Lif is far more powerful than the Lif of others. This also gives Nemenems a singularity and operates on a separate system of cause and effect.
- Equipped: Nemenems have greatly enhanced, supernatural sensing capabilities, allowing them to see and hear things from kilometers away, can sense what is going on in other Worlds
Charms: Hersch is extremely charismatic, charming, and attractive. Able to pacify people who despise and want to kill her and make them into loyal followers, this eventually led to her ruling Nemenems for billions of years with no opposition to her rule, during which she was capable of making entire nations join her just by her charms. She invokes an immense feeling of trust, love, and kindness in all she interacts with. This ability is so potent that later even likes of Amalatro were briefly influenced by it, not willing to fight her, and caused Kral Kaos to cry after he killed her. Kaos and many other Kovans became far less violent after Hersch's demise, effectively reforming Kovan Undivided into being a much less destructive nation that is willing to make treaties and peace instead of destroying all that is not Kovan.
Generator: Hersch can create various tools and weapons out of thin air. She can create swords, bows, guns, rifles, and spaceships. She is skilled in using these weapons at a far greater level than anyone in humanity, as well as Nemenemes in general.
Vectors: Hersch can both create and control vectors, using them to quickly travel between places or launch surprise attacks that are much harder to dodge than normal.
Fireshot: Hersch can generate and control fire. In this particular attack, she generates fire around her body and fires them in the form of multiple powerful blasts. This ability doesn't require her to take a particular stance, as fire blasts simply charge underneath her armor to be fired at any moment, making it hard to detect. This ability can be used with Vectors for additional burning effect
Threadshot: Hersch generates threads out of her nails for various purposes. These threads are mainly used for binding purposes, binding targets with them can restain them, greatly restricting their movements as well as their powers in the process. Hersch often uses this ability to kidnap her targets alive, as this ability does not cause any harm to the target
Hope: Hope is the general name of Hersch's primary ability. This ability allows Hersch can see into the future with immense clarity, play a certain event over and over and again endlessly with no time passing in the World, and eventually figure out how to take the exact actions needed to be victorious, with no wasted movements or actions. Hersch is practically fated to win in every interaction, and everything is fated to go in her favor from the moment she intends to.
Wisdom: This ability allows Hersch to both gather information and change it, Hersch can gather information on any phenomenon as long as she knows about it, and later she can change this information, causing that thing to be changed. She often uses this to pacify people that are not influenced by her charms, as such, it is far more potent than her charms.
Dream Attack: Hersch can project her mind into dreams of others, even if they aren't sleeping. This ability is used to assassinate those who are immune to both her Charms and Wisdom.
Heavenly Lifegiver: Hersch is an extremely skilled healer. Able to heal even the dead whose corpses are not present if she knows about them, even reviving the dead Nemenems whose Zindans were permanently destroyed. During the war against Kovan Undivided, she repeatedly revived fallen Nemenems and made sure the war would continue and Kovans would be kept busy. She is also able to bestow powers on others, powers such as increased strength and immortality through constant self-healing. She is the reason for other Nemenems being able to reach Zisnerve and draw Magic from there, as she is the only one who can sense and interact with it on her own
Lif: Hersch's Lif exists within Zisnerve This is her true form, which she uses to revive her World self and control it from here. Lifs can create the World selves and exist within Zisnerve. Nemenems can even attack each other within Zisnerve.
