Data Log: Model 1.0[]
Recovery[]
The inactive body of what appeared to be an old humanoid robot was discovered underground and under the rubble of a collapsed building, alongside several pieces of preserved paper kept inside a rusted box being found in a similar location. Aside from a few scratches, a bit of missing fake hair, and some dust in its internals, the robot body itself appeared to have been intact. It was safely excavated and brought back to our facility for further examination where, upon careful metallic dating for Tanker, was found to have been 120 years old, dating the model back to the furthest possible date of 1904. While vastly inferior to the Nuvonium of today, Tanker was the strongest material and super-alloy at the time. Furthermore, the papers were sent for careful observation and translation into modern English. Even without the translation however, we were given a likely name for this creation, Lucy.
Statistics[]
Codename: Lucy
Model: 1.0
Computer Type: Mechanical
Date of Creation: August, 1904
Intended Purpose: Combat
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 4,400lbs (7,150lbs when fully stocked)
Physiology[]
Lucy, exterior and interior alike, seems to comprise fully of Tanker material, a flexible super-alloy comprised of heavily compact Titanium mixed with the first recorded traces of Compound 16, making the metal strong enough to only be scratched by things like Tomahawk missiles of today. To do actual damage to 5 centimeter thick Tanker, akin to what Lucy possesses for their outer layer, would possibly require a weapon not too dissmilar from a MOAB. This material gives the mechanical marvel its brown look with a slight hint of gold. Its eyes lack any pupils and seem to comprise of sturdy glass bulbs that seem to have been powered by an interior gas chamber located in her stomach region. Her mouth is a small opening in her face that seems to serve the purpose of expelling large amounts of hot steam or smoke to regulate its temperature for safety purposes. The clothing on her is metal and a part of her. Furthermore, this crosses the line between hints of a female fashion design from the 1900s, as well as a combat ready steampunk look with her clothing, golden cufflets and humanoid design, indicating intent for future developments that never came to be. The fake hair is black, made of metallic wiring, and reaches down to her just above her shoulders. It also possesses a bun ponytail, further indications of futuristic Its overall build is feminine, though lacking the breasts or thin build due to the necessity for its interior components to fit inside. As for the components themselves, they too are made of Tanker and seem to derive their power from an internal mechanical computer near where the heart would be. It was powered by an internal water chamber, producing energy necessary for perpetual pulleys, gears, and levers that run the whole system. Its runtime as a result is estimated to come in at around 4 hours from two liters of water, after which the water supply would run short and she would be out of commission until refilled through the hole in its mouth.
Arsenal[]
As this was seemingly built to be a combat robot, it of course contained weapons and capabilities on its person designed for taking down enemies that existed in its time. Despite it having been born in a limited time for such a creation, its weapons are not to be underestimated. These are as follows.
- Her left arm contains a sealed compartment which houses a makeshift gun weapon built that can be retracted at any point. It seems to have been built to house 100 bullets, all of superior caliber to modern day weapons. 10 could be loaded at any one time before reloading would be required with the gun having a fire rate of 120 RPM, or 2 RPS, comparable to modern day pistols, yet far deadlier. Judging from the blueprints given, as well as the discovery of damaged Tanker built armor and shields from those dubbed the Automatons, the bullets too would've been made of Tanker, designed specifically to tear through other weapons, walls, and mechanical enemies composed of tough materials such as brick, as well as the aforementioned Automatons who also appear to use thick layers of Tanker.
- Her stomach compartment contains a gas chamber with a metal funnel that could stick out from the opening when unsealed. This seems to have been some sort of rudimentary flamethrower, designed to shoot flames at a range of up to ten meters. This range, while short compared to modern day flamethrowers, uses up far less fossil fuel which would've resided in the gas chamber. This would allow Lucy to have used the flamethrower for upwards of five minutes before burning all of its lighter fuel. However, the flames themselves could get as hot as 1,800 degrees Celsius, hotter than magma. Because of this, not only did the flamethrower provide a lethal mid range weapon, superior to human wielded flamethrowers at the time, the Tanker metal would have easily allowed Lucy to survive her own heat.
- Similarly, the gas chamber also seems to connect to the heels of her feet, This implies that Lucy, due to her weight preventing flight, would have had these compartments built for high jumps. Scanning the full body of Lucy reveals that this model was capable of jumping as high as three stories into the air after a one second process. Doing so however would drain 5% of the gas chamber, leaving less fuel for the flamethrower, and vice versa.
- Her face acts as multiple different weapons in of itself. The bulb eyes appeared to have had two different degrees of brightness depending on the situation it was presented. In most instances, it would use its Dull setting, but when needed, it can switch to its Bright mode, causing severe damage to human vision humans who look into its glare for any more than two seconds This too, used up the gasoline in the chamber, though not a noticeable amount. Its mouth could also produce hot steam still potent enough to cause third degree burns after ten seconds of exposure to the steam within a 20 meter radius, serving as a much weaker, though longer range alternative to the flamethrower that costs no natural gas to use. Furthermore, the mouth could also produce excess smoke emitted from the gas chamber. The fumes are toxic to humans and organic lifeforms due to the chemicals it carries. The fumes can be released in a similar radius to the hot steam, though spreads further at an overall slower rate. Due to the lack of functional eyes, a makeshift, primitive version of a seismograph was used alongside a series of hundreds of "and/or gates" that determine the direction of its target and the course of action needed without the need of visual stimuli.
- Looking at the middle of its back, we discovered a square shaped hatch, and in it, a spring powered mechanism. This compartment seems to have been made for storing powerful explosives. More specifically, the residue left over on the inside indicates the use of massive Napalm bombs that were used for surprising opponents who had attempted to attack from behind. It's estimated that they could have been propelled as far back as eight meters and had an effective radius of 15 meters from the blast zone. As many as five of these could be loaded in the back for a total capacity of 1.25 tons of explosives, adding onto the mechanical marvel's already massive weight. The explosives themselves were encased in large ball shaped metal casings made from loosely welded Tanker, allowing them to roll out a further distances and thus explode at a farther range after a few seconds of being deployed. How they could fit a Mark 77 within a ball such as this would have been beyond the understanding of anyone at the time.
- In the palm of the right hand is a small circular compartment that was discovered to have a retractable bayonet that has a length of a full meter when fully extended. This weapon too, is made of Tanker, meaning, alongside it's incredibly low surface area at the tip, it could likely pierce and stab through just about any material that wasn't Tanker. This was lovely used to puncture the weak points of the Automatons once they were weakened by her other weapons such as her gun.
- The final capability of this machine appears to have been known as the Overclock. When Lucy activated it, its mechanical machinery would be overclocked far beyond its normal capabilities, allowing it to accelerate its perception and movement speed to a comparatively insane degree. By our estimations and the documents we uncovered regarding the creation of Lucy, this Overclock seems to have been capable of allowing Lucy to travel from a standstill to the speed of sound within a single second, though needs a second to activate. It also causes Lucy to be able to fire her gun faster and automatically produces scorching hot steam that can burn off human skin in moments if the target were to be exposed to it near her. However, this process uses up a lot of her battery life. 15 seconds of use cuts the water supply by 20% of its maximum, so it was likely not recommended for use for any longer than that unless absolutely necessary.
Notes[]
Upon the notes found within the box, we discovered several blueprints that pointed out the weapons and capabilities that we had went over already. However, the remaining four notes all provide insight from the creator of the machine. Their name was Charles Hughes. It is unlikely to be referring to the politician that existed at the time who also went by the name. When translated into modern English, the notes read as follows...
NOTE 1[]
My name is Charles Hughes. As an orphan left to my own accord in a controlled city, I had begun to tinker with materials that no average boy should have been touching unless it was in a fuming factory. While I never had any idea on how to talk with other people as a result of my isolation, the thought dawned upon me that I could build my own. I would try many different attempts to getting such an idea to work, though each time, it would end up as a failure. It was not easy, though with enough attempts, I had begun to focus on what worked and stuck, resulting in the new design I had in mind. It would require a thick Tanker floor to prevent it from crushing the flooring, and the cobblestone roads may suffer damages that would cause horse drawn carriages to cease until repairs were made, but I will do my best to come up with a method of controlling it before it gets to that degree.
NOTE 2[]
The first attempt at creating the machine has proven to be a failure. Its internals are far more complicated than I had initially figured they would be. I will need to find a way to piece together hundreds of "and/or Gates" meticulously forged from Tanker, alongside the quake sensor to allow for Lucy to detect its surroundings and make the appropriate moves. Furthermore, each Gate and combination of Gates need to be set up to allow for Lucy to alter its position and methods continuously in an ever changing environment. This may be an arduous and likely impossible process, but I am not giving up. I believe that a way can be found if I just keep searching. I just have to keep trying.
NOTE 3[]
After a decade consisting of several hundred attempts, the tests have all worked without a hitch. This was quite fortunate given the rise of the Automatons. The platoons of dozens of Steam Soldiers that the Defenders have sent are not cutting it. Their bullets fail to do anything, and they are being destroyed in one hit in most cases. This however, is different. Lucy is, without a doubt, the strongest weapon on Earth by a large degree. Her power will be necessary to take on the Automatons and whoever chose to create them. She will soon be equipped with all of the necessary equipment which are listed in the blueprint provided, so in a day's time, she will partake in her first mission in saving people and destroying the targeted Automation. Hopefully, she remains well in a real combat setting.
NOTE 4[]
The situation is getting bleak. Although Lucy was successful in taking out all four of the Automatons, alongside Baron von Spurstenberg, the people are beginning to ponder as to the scientific validity of her. Compared to most other robots, she has a simple mechanical AI that could allow her think and have instincts unlike any other robots at the time. As well, she is much stronger than those Automatons and was more powerful than anyone could imagine. As a result, they believe that I was a wizard, a spawn of evil. They have already arrived to burn me in my home, and I fear now that all of the research I have discovered will be lost to the sands of time. So, I will hide as much of my research as I can. To anyone who finds this, I implore that you do not destroy this research. Instead, learn from it, and perhaps one day, Lucy and those like her may be accepted by the masses as a useful piece of society. I place my faith in the Defenders for discovering her first. They could innovate and improve upon her, and maybe, just maybe, Lucy will rise to help the world once again.
SYNOPSIS[]
There's a bit we can decipher from each of these written documents. Firstly, Note 3 brings up how Lucy had spent her life fighting the Automatons. Given the number of collapsed houses and walls with holes slightly larger than Lucy around the theorized locations of these Automatons, this appears to be within Lucy's estimated caliber of strength. While it is possible that more Notes and blueprints existed, it was likely lost in the fire which is implied by Note 4 to have happened. Given the way the rubble was placed as well as Lucy's location within the structure, the robot has survived the collapsing building, although was placed and hidden in Dr. Hughes's basement before his unfortunate passing. However, we here at the Organization of Defenders promise him that we will do what we can to uphold his legacy. While we will be preserving and cleaning Lucy for research, we could use what was done here in order to potentially create something new that will build upon what Dr. Hughes has established in order to further protect humanity.
Conclusion[]
We had given up far too early in creating robots. We saw the atomic bomb and called it quits. Nothing we could hope to create would ever surpass it. However, with this newfound knowledge of Lucy, it may be that we we had called it quits too early. Weapons aren't nearly enough. It's about time we look back at this and think about how we can innovate upon what was found and use it to reduce human casualties to near zero. That is what we were made for. If we can take anything from Dr. Hughes, it's that we should not give up so easily. I believe we should resurrect the Artificial Man Project for the sake of both humanity and our integrity as an organization. After all...
"TO THE OoD, HUMANITY COMES FIRST."
