This is my third setting on this site, for the other two, check out my page.

Story Summary[]

Affinity follows the Infinity Group, a rag-tag band of vigilante peaks, who are constantly on the run from the government of Calchester, and later on, the world as a whole. The story is seen from the eyes of Taurus Belfaste, an Heir-type peak and the false protagonist, who is later revealed to be the brother of the real protagonist, Milan Belfaste, a Hybrid peak.

Species and Terms[]

There are two specific species in this series, humans and peaks. However, the Peaks have two subspecies, the natural, and the artificial, which are only a handful.

So, what are Peaks, exactly?[]

You know the X-Men, right? Take away their really over-the-top costumes and categorize their powers, add a few common traits and boom! That's a peak.

Simply put, a Peak is a human being born with the peak gene, represented by scientists as , randomized within the class of gene they have at birth. there are eight classes:

  • Amplifiers: Power Manipulators; They directly control other powers, like Nullification and Bestowal. They are the second rarest class, only behind Hybrids.
  • Animorphs: Animal morphers; Be they mythical, real or fictional, these humans possess the ability to transform to animals. There are subclasses here though, as Animorphs are grouped into Zoomorphs (Common Animals), Prehistomorphs (Ancient animals) and Mythomorphs (Mythical and fictional animals)
  • Elementals: Natural Element manipulators. The most common class of peaks in existence. While there are classical element manipulators, there are some that use derivative elements like metals as opposed to geokinesis, lava in place of fire, mist in place of water and soon. However, well-trained and meta-level peaks are incredibly adept at manipulating the classical elements, the derivatives and even concepts like Hailee with her fundamental force manipulation with water, and Jacklyn Warner's Time manipulation with her Ice.
  • Enhancers: Slightly-less human, well, humans. They are practically users of mental and or physical abilities.
  • Heirs: Physics manipulators. These peaks manipulate everything from the laws of physics to the atomic structure, to achieve a wide range of effects. These are the most versatile of all groups besides the Hybrids.
  • Psyches: Basically every esper in the book.Though the strength of their mental abilities can help in manipulating other abilities from other classes.
  • Walkers: The second-strongest class besides the Amps, measuring above the Hybrids due to the sheer amount of destruction they can cause through the manipulation of Universal Concepts mostly related to Space-Time.
  • The Hybrids Are simply the combination of any two classes. They are very rare, the rarest, actually, and are usually very powerful.

You're still reading? Must be interesting, then. I said something earlier about the peaks having common traits...well those traits are called Talents. There are only five Talents, which are:

  • DNA Vision: A basic Talent technique, as peaks have incredibly powerful eyesight, they can scan human bodies to decipher a peak and their class. However, even if it is a base ability, not many peaks know of it, since it comes with study and knowledge of not only humman bodies, but peak genes as well.
  • Focus: Another basic talent technique, mostly passive, which allows a peak to determine the location of another peak within a 10-20 feet radius (can go far greater than that with a higher level of mastery), primarily used as a detection talent, both more advanced uses could be as a sixth sense that acts more like Extrasensory Perception. It requires immense concentration for newer learners (Luna found using Focus during her training to be tiring), and not so much concentration for older users (Jacklyn can use this talent while juggling multiple things at once).
  • Corrosion: When in a frenzy, or in an anxious state, a peak's dermis is covered in a slimy material corrosive to the touch for non-peaks, and can melt projectile weapons, blades and the sort. Advanced uses can melt skin of peaks with lower corrosion level.
  • Intimidation: Used to induce fear and anxiety in other peaks and humans, acts as a sort of aura, which, at higher levels can deflect firearms, lift objects in the air and even damage the environment. This however cannot be used by all peaks,as it is exclusive to only Elementals, Animorphs and Heirs.
  • Black Tegument/Black Skin: Focusing all of the peak gene's ability on the interior of one's body, a peak is able to generate a Black Metallic substance on their skin. This substance heats the body from the inside out, and acts as an ultra-defensive and ultra-offensive ability at once. This technique, while granting the user the full assortment of base offensive and defensive peak abilities, puts enormous strain on the user’s peak gene and pushes it to its limits, focusing all its force into enhancement. It is not wise to touch the skin of someone using this technique, as the amount of steam rising from the body, particularly the respiratory organs tell the amount of heat the body is enduring. This talent also has another downside, as besides the heating process, the user, once the talent is deactivated, will lose all peak abilities, except for talents, temporarily, and at times, will even render some users comatose. This is due to the gene helping the body to recover from immense stress. The layoff period usually requires days, weeks, on occasions, months, depending on the length of usage. The Visitor/ Harvey Belfaste, is the peak to use this talent for the longest amount of time, being nine days.

Other users besides Harvey: Milan, Wyatt, Okubo, Voldodymyr, Jacklyn, Tatiana.
