“ | For Sentinels like us, dedicating our existence to servitude and exaltation of our respective peoples is a straightforward choice, given the constant and everlasting reservoir of lifetimes blessed upon us by our companion Spurs. The genuine commendation, however, belongs to the valiant devotees of whoever background they are from, who offer their service to their peoples, staking their sole life in jeopardy, because these people have no lives to spare like we do. | „ |
~ Thrasel Shravrek |
“ | There is a fact that many refuse to see or acknowledge. It is the fact that another Calamity can fall upon us at any moment, and this time, instead of unleashing centuries of dark age, it may reduce us to nothing. Now, none of us shall act clueless; for we all know this fact. My point is, what do we do? Instead of preparing for such an event, organizing and unifying into a single force, and strengthening ourselves, we engage in petty tribal conflict. What good does this bring? Nothing, not one good thing! Palova must unite! | „ |
~ Initial part of Thrasel's speech in the first Pinnacle meeting |
“ | I am not special, none of us are. Beyond being a Sentinel, I am a nobody, a nobody who is not one to fall into despair and inaction in the face of dire circumstances. Our people need strong leadership, unity, and organization. Life is cruel and doom can come to us at any moment, if anything is to endure and thrive in this world, it will do so by unity, organization, dedication, and determination. (...) I hereby declare the unification of Palova under the Pinnacle and dedicate my existence to be the commander of the Pinnacle. May it benefit all of us. | „ |
~ Thrasel's speech upon unification of Palova |
“ | What more will fall upon us? Darkness, doom in every corner. Do you think we would yield?! Do you think we would cry and scream as we fall into nothingness and vanish? Not at all! The will of Palovans is to endure and rise again and again. We endured one Calamity, you did not let us live, we endured on our own! You said you came to finish your job, to bring a second Calamity, the fact is you ended up bringing it upon yourself! | „ |

Biography[]
Thrasel Shravrek is a character in Crestseal. She is an Astravar Sentinel and eventually leads the group that would go on to unify scattered Palovans under one rule, Pinnacle, which would later be the name of the unified new Palovan government
Backstory[]
Revival and Journey[]
Thrasel was a woman of Astravar background long deceased, was brought back to life by a Spur in the year 506, becoming a Chosen. Like all other Chosen, she had no recollection of her former self or past life. Her Spur guided her to the location of the Dormant Astravar Sphere, where she could discover her purpose, serve as a Sentinel, and deepen her understanding of Astrava. However, Thrasel harbored little enthusiasm for this predetermined path. The life and role of a Sentinel that her Spur envisioned did not resonate with her. Consequently, she chose to forge a path of her own, and her Spur eventually abandoned its efforts to steer her in the prescribed direction.
Opting for an unconventional journey, Thrasel embarked on her solo travels, concealing her true identity. Her journey was marked by many deaths, each followed by Spur's revival of her. She continued to visit more people and learn more languages. Ultimately, she arrived at a small, destitute village named Sbasa. Here, she decided to establish a new life, shrouding her identity as a Chosen. Over time, she integrated into the village, earning the trust of the locals. She assumed the role of caretaker for two orphans named Thrasel and Shavrek, all the while secretly harnessing Phanon to generate additional food for the children.
Several years later, a man named Sparkbear and his gang, known as Spearbreakers, descended upon the village, presenting an offer the desperate villagers could not refuse. Sparkbear proposed using the village as bait to ensnare a local warlord known as 'Kzldam', a rogue Chosen who was pursued by Spearbreakers in the region. In exchange, he promised a year's worth of supplies to the villagers. Reluctantly, the offer was accepted by the villagers. However, the events unraveled not according to the plan as Kzldam possessed his own formidable gang, leading to a violent clash that claimed the lives of all the villagers, including the orphans she had cared for. Thrasel watched the carnage unfold. In the aftermath of this brutal conflict, Thrasel paid homage to the fallen townsfolk by giving them a proper burial. In the memory of the two orphans she was a caretaker of for years, she adopted the name Thrasel Shravrek. This pivotal event profoundly changed Thrasel, leading her to reconsider her path. Ultimately, she decided to heed her Spur's guidance and follow the destiny it had in mind for her.
Arrival at Ptera[]
Her Spur, which she named Moonstay, explained more about the situation of the world, and guided her to the Astravar capital of Ptera, near an S.A.C (Sentinel Adjustment Center), one of the locations for newly Chosen to learn and adjust their new lives and serve the faction of Astrava and take the mantle of a Sentinel. After a period of adjustment, she went there and learned the state of the world in more detail. She traveled the lands of Astrava, making herself as visible as possible to try to find someone who knew of her before her demise, even though she was discouraged from doing this by Moonstay, who said she died long ago and was dead for centuries and nobody alive today can recognize who she is. Moonstay said that Thrasel, what she is now, is a brand new person not linked to the previous individual. Thrasel eventually came to terms with it and headed to the nearest S.A.C., where she learned more information, received training, and integrated into Astravar society as part of its forces.
She acquired proficiency exceeding Aspirantzes and was promoted to the rank of Aspirantmond in less than one year by early 527, as expected of a Sentinel with heightened learned capability. During the campaigns she took part in, she was amazed by how there were so many Astravars who fought for the faction, risking their only lives in battles and questioned the nature of life as she had endless lives to spare thanks to her Spur Moonstay. During this period she also met Razira Rasla, another Aspirantmond and member of Rasla family, and formed a friendship as well as a student-teacher relationship with him.
Foreground[]
Conversation with Razira |
---|
"I have a tough time understanding this, Razira, why?" said Thrasel "What?" replied Razira, not knowing what Thrasel is asking "People who risk their lives participating in wars of Astrava, including you. You do not have lives to spare like me. Sure you people can gain some from this in the form of battle loot, but if you die, you are dead, and it's over. I don't understand this. I have endless lives to spare, so why would people like you risk theirs? I don't mean to be rude, just curious" asked Thrasel while leaning against a wall "Fine then listen up, Thrasel. I'm into this for one reason, and that is Astrava. Serving it is like breathing to me, and everyone else damn well knows it. It's that ultimate satisfaction. The fact is, we all have a date with death, even you. Don't go fooling yourself thinking you're untouchable just 'cause you were made into a Sentinel." replied Razira "Well, sure, I can be killed if my Spur, Moonstay, is destroyed, but the chances of that ever happening is so small, and you know it. I need to go out of my way to mess with people far above my current league for that to happen," replied Thrasel confidently "Hey, look, it ain't all rainbows and sunshine, even when you're a Sentinel blessed with endless spares of lives fighting for Astrava. Death doesn't play favorites in a war. Then I could ask you, why do you serve? Same damn reason as all of us. You might think you wouldn't step up if you had just one shot at life, but that's like a person with sight saying they can't handle being blind replied Razira "Fine, maybe you are right. My point stands, though, I also now believe people like you deserve true praise for this. Tell me, Razira, who are you, and what is your family?" asked Thrasel "We Rasla family descend from a man named Rasla, who lived between 247 to 451, he was a Sentinel like you and one of the leading figures of Astrava rebuilding during his time. He was killed in battle in 451. A Sentinel, but killed. However, not before leaving several descendants. Three sons of his, who took his name as their surname." replied Razira as the two departed. |
Virava Conflict[]
Virava Conflict |
---|
Thrasel faced her most significant challenge yet when she was drafted to the war against the tribes surrounding the Variva peninsula. This small peninsula lay just south of Astrava territory. Astravars previously exerted control over the city of Virava when they conquered it in 419. However, a powerful Confederation of Viravan tribes was able to reconquer the city in 451 in a major battle where the defending Astravars were severely outnumbered and outgunned. The Virava Confederation spearheaded a stiff resistance against the rule of Astrava since then, repelling all attempts at conquest. However, Astravar forces in the Virava peninsula were few, as conquest of the region was not an important objective at all.
In the year 527, Thrasel assumed the role of commander for the local troops stationed in the region. Initially, these forces numbered fewer than ten thousand, and more than 90% were mainly comprised of Aspirantzes. The Astravar leadership had not prioritized the expansion into the peninsula, resulting in an under-resourced and disorganized military presence that was content with raiding, a sign of a lack of discipline. However, with her appointment came a shift in the status quo. Thrasel recognized the complexity of the situation. The Virava Confederacy was a collection of tribes, each with its interests and grievances. She initiated a meticulous information-gathering effort, employing spies who infiltrated the discontented tribes. From 528 to 531, she cultivated relationships with these tribes, gradually swaying the loyalty of more than half of the tribes away from Kryn's leadership and to her side. As the tides of allegiance shifted, Thrasel inflicted several defeats on now weakened remains of the Confederacy and laid siege to the city of Virava, she took the city and dueled against the Leader, Kryn, who was far stronger than her. The duel lasted for three days, and Kryn, who realized he had no means to permanently end a Sentinel, decided to charge his strongest, Expansive attacks and launch them all over the city of Virava, causing large-scale destruction of the grand capital Virava and deaths of many Viravans. Kryn died after channeling all of his life to his attacks. After his death, Thrasel oversaw the reconstruction of Virava and the establishment of Virava Province. Surviving Viravans were taken care of by Astravar relief efforts, fostering loyal people to be integrated into the nation. |
Unification Era begins[]
Early Expansion[]
While serving as the governor of Virava, Thrasel contemplated her life so far and the state of the world. She would delve into deep research on the earlier periods, the Calamity, and the period after that. She questioned why the three factions bitterly rivaled each other despite the possibility of the Crimson Fleet returning and bringing about another Calamity. Thrasel thought that Palovans had to unite, and the three factions had to unite, and she aimed toward that direction from this point onwards. After having served in Virava a the Governor for five years, she requested her resignation from the governorship of Virava, as the position was keeping her in one place and not suitable for her new goals. During her governorship of Virava, she was promoted to Archant, but she took a brief sabbatical to pursue her other goal: a goal which she desired to see the unification of the three factions - Stargazers, Astravars, and Nadisars.
She left Virava in 541 and after traveling for a few decades, she formed a secret organization named Pinnacle in year 562 and convinced many of her peers and companions she gained in the past few decades, many of whom shared similar views to hers, to join. The purpose of this organization was to eventually grow powerful and take over the leadership of the three factions - Stargazers, Astravars, and Nadisars - from within. Thrasel believed she needed members from the other factions, specifically some powerful individuals, especially Sentinels, to join as well. After several years, the existence of Pinnacle was discovered by the three factions, but not their goal.
Feeling worried, Thrasel returned to her position in the Astravar army in year 571 and adopted a different strategy. She met with all major members of Pinnacle and told them they should grow stronger and improve their rankings within their own factions to make the eventual takeover easier to achieve. She kept on serving Astrava as she did before and eventually rose to a Paramount after over a decade of working in year 594, taking part in wars against Nadisars, Stargazers, and other minor factions, all while simultaneously managing a key role in Pinnacle secret operations and recruiting. She was confident with the power of Pinnacle in Astrava, but branches in Stargazers and Nadisars needed to be more powerful for eventual takeover. Eventually, by 610, Pinnacle's power and reach in Astrava grew so much to the point where most of Astrava's leading Council were members of Pinnacle, and Astrava's leadership was taken over without a coup or any action necessary. But other branches were still much weaker and needed more effort. The lack of a significant number of Sentinels in those branches was making it more difficult for Thrasel and Pinnacle to properly grow their power in Nadisars and Stargazers. Thrasel fully took over Astrava after she and her organization convinced the overwhelming majority of the Sentinels to join Pinnacle, who were already leading figures in Astrava. She had a much more difficult time recruiting Sentinels among Nadisars and Stargazers, however, mostly due to Thrasel being mostly based on Astravar territory, as this was making it difficult for her to operate Pinnacle's two branches in the territory of those factions.
The Opposition[]
Several years later in 614, the rulers of Stargazers and Nadisars eventually discovered many of the leading figures of Pinnacle's branches in their own territories and took action to cleanse them. 'Idiots,' Thrasel thought, 'Why would they try to stop Palovan unity?' 'Because they would lose their own power and authority,' she responded to herself. The conflict broke out, with Stargazers and Nadisars on one side, who did not aid one another, and on the other side were Pinnacle's branches within their territories. Thrasel believed that Astrava should not interfere, as Pinnacle's takeover of Astrava was not common knowledge. If Astrava joined this conflict in support of Pinnacle, it might result in an alliance between Stargazers and Nadisars, dragging all three of these nations into a much larger conflict; a war. Thrasel did not wish this to escalate into a war that would drag many civilians into it and inflict untold suffering akin to those in the early days after Calamity. Pinnacle had to take over the factions without being detected too much, secrecy became even more important.
Unification Achieved[]
This stalemate lasted for five years. Thrasel had the upper hand, she was recruiting more and more into the Pinnacle, as many common soldiers even many Sentinels in Stargazers and Nadisars somewhat resonated with her ideals. Unity between three factions would benefit all Palovans, except the ruling class. However, this still was not enough to take over without a war breaking out, so Thrasel had to play carefully. Eventually, she found an unlikely ally, The Vagrant, who she negotiated with and was able to convince, She saw an alliance between Pinnacle and Vagrant's secret organization Dawn by the year 627, with many of its own rogue Chosen and spy Sentinels; The Vagrant already had many members of his organization in both nations, this unity resulted in Pinnacle gaining enough power to take over. This still resulted in a small conflict, but a much less devastating one as Pinnacle and Dawn-aligned soldiers took the upper hand, realizing the unification of the three factions under the rule of one group by late 630. This started a period of discord that Pinnacle had to address and solve, and Pinnacle was reorganized as the Palovan government, unifying the whole planet of Palova and nearly all Palovans for the first time since the Golden Era, and starting the Unificator Era. The new organization was established and Pinnacle as a government was proclaimed in early 632, during which a new organizational structure was established and a governing body was developed, named the Council of Pinnacle. The Council was made of 6 members, Vagrant and other notable individuals who spearheaded the unification were appointed to the Council, while Thrasel was named the Commander of the newly-established Pinnacle Army. Throughout the following decade, Pinnacle would assert its control over the entirety of Palova, unifying the entire planet under one centralized Palovan government by 643.
Conflict with Talith Congregation[]
Grand Failure[]
Feeling confident and hopeful after consolidating power in all of Palova and stabilizing by 660, Pinnacle would plan to retake former territories of Palovans inhabited during the Golden Era, seeing the Moon as their first target. Palovans, for centuries, were aware that there was a non-Palovan, which they initially suspected to be the remains of the Crimson Fleet, but understood it not to be the case. Pinnacle planned to engage in military conflict with this another force that had taken over most of former Palovan territories. Thrasel initially wished to lead the invasion herself but was convinced not to as she was the overall Commander of Pinnacle's Army and she should not fight in the front lines right away by the Council of Pinnacle. After several years of preparation, over twenty thousand strong Pinnacle Army, 5000 of which Sentinels, launched an invasion of the Moon in 664, starting a war that would last for over a year. After a year, out of all those sent to the Moon, only twenty would return, all Sentinels.
This was a major blow to the legitimacy and morale of Pinnacle, as for the first time they suffered such a large, devastating loss, at the hands of Moon's rulers, whose name was Cavil, and their division was led by a man known as Gor-Talith, Voidforger of the Covert, despite being hopeful. The fact that even most of the Sentinels were killed off was even bigger of a shock and surprise, and a wave of realization would hit the Pinnacle leadership, along with Thrasel, that the Cavil force in Moon was not to be taken so lightly. Several months later, the failed invasion of Moon was soon followed by small-scale raids launched from the Cavils of Moon on Palova, starting another major war and putting Pinnacle on the defensive. Pinnacle this time did not underestimate the enemy, and decided to strategize according to the information they acquired about them from surviving Sentinels, and managed to repel most raids with minimal casualties, even captured enemy soldiers and, after deducing their language and interrogation by Thrasel herself, they learned that different Cavil groups led by different, powerful Cavils called Congregators, and this one Congregator have taken the Moon during Dark Eras. Pinnacle understood that this one ruling over the Moon was simply one of the many Cavil self-governing subdivisions, called Talith Congregation founded and led by Gor-Talith.
Continued Conflict with Cavil[]
This would be the beginning of tense relations between Talith Congregation and Pinnacle, lasting for many years from 664 back and forth with neither getting the upper hand. Pinnacle was able to defend Palova from Moon attacks and invasions but was not able to invade the Moon, Talith Congregation was able to repel the invasions of the Moon but was not able to invade Palova. Both sides were very stubborn, this conflict lasted for many years with plenty of casualties, with both sides inventing different tactics and strategies as well as adapting to the other. Eventually, however, Pinnacle started to gain the upper hand during a time of Moon disarray, when Cavils of the Moon faced a local revolt as well as an attack from another force. Thrasel took the initiative and personally ordered an invasion force, which allowed Pinnacle to succeed and they established a foothold on the Moon and heavily fortified in the year 705. Getting more and more familiar with Cavil's ways of combat, they were able to get a piece of the Moon and reclaim their former territory.
Pinnacle leadership was worried, however, as they knew Moon was not their only threat, as they were battling against just one province of a much larger nation, and could stalemate it at best when they were focused on them. They anticipated other Cavil divisions to aid the Moon, but nobody came. Pinnacle understood that provinces or Congregations of Cavils are not necessarily allies to one another, thus others had no reason to assist the Moon.
Pinnacle conquests in the Moon would open diplomatic doors with the Congregation, for the first time in over a decade Cavil and Palovans have a meaningful talk rather than war. Cavil emissary named La-Shkoor arrived in Pinnacle-controlled Moon and talked with the Pinnacle governor based there in the year 708.
La-Shkoor spoke kindly and politely but demanded that Palova should leave their territory immediately.
The governor responded by saying the Moon belongs to Palovans, as Palovans have been here first, and that Cavil should not only leave the Moon but leave this entire Solar System altogether.
La-Shkoor responded by saying that she is over 600 years old, and by the time Cavil came here, there was not a single Palovan on the Moon, aside from their skeletons. She said Cavil did not invade Palova earlier because of the respect for Palovan territory, but the other territories of the System were abandoned and thus should be free to take. The emissary said Cavil have been here for centuries now and have built a great thing, saying Palovans should not have abandoned it, whatever has happened is not the fault of the Cavil.
The governor was enraged, ordered his guards to capture La-Shkor, and nearly executed her in a fit of rage, restarting the conflict between the two factions. He was ordered by Thrasel to release La-Shkor a few days later, and he was quickly removed from the office and arrested for his conduct, his name was erased, but this was not enough to stop the Cavil, who wished to retake the part of the Moon Palova took earlier.
Yekk expedition[]
As several decades of conflict with the Talith Congregation was ongoing, both sides started to understand one another well, and could even bring themselves to sign occasional ceasefires. The intensity of this conflict was lessening as time went on, especially when an elite Cavil Army personally led by Gor-Talith managed to conquer the part of Moon Pinnacle conquered earlier in year 736, and were able to keep the Pinnacle forces at bay, displaying their adaptation to Pinnacle ways to warfare.
Pinnacle Council long decided that conquest of the Moon should not be a priority as it would not improve or benefit Pinnacle too much aside from more land, which Pinnacle did not need given the Palovan population was stable in Palova alone, they made the decision to consolidate further on Palova and sign a lasting truce with Gor-Talith, which was achieved.
Seven years after the truce, in the year 743, an army of unusual beings appeared through a Portal near Palova and invaded Palova. This new force, calling themselves Yekks, was far more aggressive and destructive than Gor-Talith's forces, and they were geared for conquest rather than defense. In a mere few months, Yekks gained a foothold on Palova, defeating all of Pinnacle's forces they came across. Thrasel convinced the Pinnacle Council to personally lead a counterattack against Yekks to expel them from the region, which was denied and she was to lead the battle from a distance.
Gor-Talith, who knew about Yekks, was initially neutral towards this invasion until a branch of Yekks also launched attacks against his Congregation on the Moon, forcing him to enter the battle in an informal alliance with Pinnacle. As usual, his forces were only interested in defending the Moon, but this still lifted some weight off of Pinnacle's shoulders as it divided the Yekks' attention.
As time went on, it became clear that Pinnacle forces were incapable of defeating Yekks for good unless they were led by very high-ranking individuals such as Thrasel, Vagrant, or others comparable to them. The Vagrant, despite being a Councilor, was the first one to encounter the ruler of Yekks and the leader of this invasion force. He seemingly perished in battle against him alongside several of his Dawn members, with only one of them escaping and letting the Council and Thrasel know what happened.
After hearing about Vagrant's apparent demise, the Pinnacle Council agreed to have Thrasel on the front lines, which she soon arrived. The moment she arrived she understood something was off, no matter how many Yekks were defeated, they always came back. She quickly deduced that these Yekks were led by a much higher-ranking Yekk. She eventually found it, a Yekk who called himself Alvaraz, of Broatative Probe rank. She needed to end that one to end this invasion.
Alvaraz immediately attacked Thrasel with a beam, which she narrowly dodged. After looking at the direction of the rock that was hit by the beam as she dodged, she noticed what this beam did, it seemed to be some kind of temporal removal that removed things from this place and moved them to another place. She deduced that Vagrant was not killed, but was hit by that beam, but this was surprising as she believed Vagrant should be unaffected by this.
The battle continued with Thrael charging in. However, it became clear that Alvaraz was superior to Thrasel, who could barely survive thanks to her Spur. Still, her battling Alvaraz was destabilizing other Yekk forces, making it more difficult for Alvaraz to control them and making it easier for Pinnacle forces to combat them. As time went on, she decided to gamble. She could fuse herself with her Veil, which may or may not give her a much greater power boost at the cost of permanently losing those forms. She believed there was no other way and Alvaraz could not be overpowered in any other way. So she decided to use it and gained immense power, far greater than she expected. Becoming superior to Alvaraz, she defeated and killed it, ending the Yekk invasion.
This conflict further improved the relations with Talith Congregation, and a state of non-aggression was continued in a balanced form. Many years later this developed into an alliance, a Coalition of sorts, between two forces.
Exploration of Mars[]
Although the Pinnacle government was primarily interested in preserving Palova and defending it against external threats, peace with Talith Congregation and the subsequent absence of serious threats to Palova for over a decade eventually influenced many higher-ups to adopt a shift in policy, a policy of exploration. Thrasel herself supported this faction, and she argued that just standing where they were and waiting for dangers to arrive at our doorstep would not be effective and that Pinnacle is obligated to take a more active role. Both she and this faction maintained their desire to keep good relations with Talith Congregation, but they wished to explore another part of the Palova System.
Eventually, Pinnacle decided to act and explore Mars, the closest planet to Palova. A small Palovan Plaaton codenamed "Red Birds", consisting of seven Fireteams each composed of seven elite soldiers whose ranks varied from Archantze to Paramountze, led by a Sentinel of Paramountver rank, was sent to Mars in the year 771. This was deliberately arranged as a small force as its primary goal was to explore Mars and gain information on it, and Pinnacle did not want to sour the relationship with whatever force occupied Mars.
Red Birds returned after three months, and three were dead. According to the information they gathered on Mars, a very macabre and aggressive species self-identifying as Swarm was present on Mars, and Red Bird were attacked whenever they were seen. This species was described as being extremely aggressive and impossible to reason with, as they even refused to speak with Red Bird soldiers. They also apparently had what looked like slave plantations inhabited by other species who were not Swarm themselves. Red Bird soldiers saw the Swarm forces periodically killing them, though they did not understand why. There were also eerie, ghost-like beings that they understood to be called Riven. Some of these blue-ish beings were sometimes similar to Swarm, and some other times not. Their mere presence was a nuisance for many soldiers of Red Birds. As they were discovered, they fought against one Swarm force that outnumbered them ten-to-one, and its champion was likely one of the Riven. Severely outgunned, Red Bird withdrew and retreated back to Palova after their final encounter with a Swarm force.
Several years later in 775, a much larger Palovan force codenamed "Red Phoenix" was assembled, this time aiming to establish a permanent stronghold on Mars. This force was tasked to conquer Ravencrest, a former Palovan city on Mars, or whatever remained of it. This city was chosen due to the barrier around it being the weakest compared to other Swarm strongholds all around Mars, and turning it into a headquarters for the Pinnacle government with a stronger barrier seemed the most possible. The City was taken in the same year.
Second Calamity[]
Over a decade after the reconquest of Ravencrest, signs of what was thought to be the Crimson Fleet were detected by Palovan Observers in the year 786. However, they quickly deduced it to be a much smaller Fleet than the one that caused the First Calamity centuries ago. This still alerted Pinnacle, Thrasel knew this day would come and spent her life preparing to counter it. She immediately organized Palovan forces for a major war which was sure to come.
Siege of Ravencrest[]
Crimson Fleet arrived around a decade after they were first noticed, in 796. Palova, after a decade of planning, had confidence that they could repel this invasion. Thrasel waited for the Fleet to make a first move, which they soon did by attacking Ravencrest, a heavily armed militarized settlement of Palova on Mars. Thrasel had confidence that Ravencrest would be able to defend itself from the small Fleet that was sent to conquer it, as Ravencrest acted as the headquarters of Palovan presence on Mars, it was defended by battle-hardened combatants who fought against Swarm and nearly eradicated them in the past two decades, forcing them to hide, and acquired de-facto control over majority of Mars.
Ravencrest defenders retreated from the rest of Mars back to the city during the planning period. Fleeters laid siege to the city, but Palovans were able to successfully defend the city for months, inflicting heavy casualties.
War of the Two Fronts[]
While the Siege of Ravencrest was ongoing, the Crimson Fleet made a drastic move and launched a full-scale invasion on both the Moon and Palova. Thrasel thought that whoever was leading the Crimson Fleet, must also be leading the Fleeter force that was going to invade Palova. Crimson Fleet arrived and started with aerial bombing of Palova's major cities, which were able to withstand the onslaught. Soon after, some of the Fleeters started to land on Palova's surface, a small force that was laying waste to the larger Palovan armies that it faced. Thrasel, after hearing this, quickly understood that this must be the elite Fleeter force led by the leader of the Crimson Fleet, and immediately prepared to face the leader along with Vagrant.
Thrasel vs. Daicas |
---|
Thrasel immediately attacked the man who was the master of the Crimson Fleet, Daicas Penchant of the Drench, right after he arrived in the city of Astrava after several weeks. Daicas avoided the attack, but Thrasel killed one of his elite Fleeters while severely injuring the other one. Hundreds of Palovans opened fire on Daicas as they saw him fighting Thrasel. Daicas was fighting Thrasel while dealing with constant fire by the Palovans. He wanted to fight both Thrasel without disturbances, and given she was a Sentinel, he thought killing her required Bloodcoated Blade, so he cast his Field Formation, Blood Vault Bastion, effectively forming a separate space with his blood to isolate Thrasel where he would be free to fight her inflict permanent damage with his blade as well as launch infallible blood attacks imbued to his Field. While she was surprised and hit by the said attacks, Daicas closed in and slashed Thrasel's arm, ripping it off, quite irrecoverably for the moment. Thrasel immediately used Warden Dissipator to mitigate the damage from infallible Field attack and engaged in close-range combat, using Chillmantle and Diminisher at once, while also using ranged attacks with Vanishslash that were quite the challenge for Daicas to see and using Gravwell to disrupt his stance whenever a distance was created between the two. Daicas' earlier attack on Thrasel made her very cautious, as he could easily damage them and his attacks could not be healed from. Daicas was worried about Chillmantle combined with Diminisher, he did not think it would be deadly as he was unaffected by an Obliteract but he was a cautious man so he did his best to avoid all of her attacks and launch counterattacks when possible. Thrasel's ranged attacks did not pose a threat to Daicas. Still, her Gravwell made it difficult for him to adjust and land a hit on her when she was close, especially considering she was using Rapidaware to make her awareness faster and dodge Daicas' attacks. Daicas started to use Sudden Bloodshield to block her worrying attacks while focusing his power to land a hit on her. He knew Rapidaware had a cooldown time and could not be used forever, so he bid his time and kept dodging her attacks. Suddenly, Thrasel managed to land a hit on Daicas with her Windration, which sent Daicas flying. Daicas took considerable damage from Windration, prompting him to quickly activate Stifle Coating to neutralize its effects, stopping it, which shocked Thrasel. Right after this, Thrasel quickly gained composure and struck Daicas in the head with her Chillmantle, but the attack was neutralized by Stifle Coating. Daicas quickly turned around and struck Thrasel with a round cut to her chest and a kick, severely wounding him and sending him flying, and started to laugh.
Daicas was done talking, he was about to deliver the final blow to obliterate Thrasel's body by decapitating her with his blade, which would kill her for good and Moonstay would not be able to revive her. Just as he unleashed his final attack, and swung his blade, a burst of energy radiated from shining Thrasel, and at the same time Daicas was punched in the chest, opening a hole through it Daicas did not understand what just happened. He was about to kill her, yet she returned. Thrasel was still injured, she did not heal, but somehow was able to not only move but injure him. The two engaged in close-range combat where Thrasel was consistently superior, avoiding all of Daicas' attacks that would be deadly and inflicting severe damage. Thrasel did not understand what was going on with her either, but she pushed on and did her best to overcome Daicas once and for all. Eventually, Thrasel started to overwhelm Daicas. As the duel continued, Daicas stopped maintaining his Stifle Coating and fully focused on attempting to land a decisive strike with his Blade, he targeted Thrasel's head or neck to finish it as soon as possible. However, as the battle continued, Thrasel was the first one to find a proper opening and struck Daicas' head with her Windration. Daicas could not anticipate that Thrasel could use Windration at close range while making contact, and his head dusted away before he could once more neutralize it with Stifle Coating. As the remains of Daicas started to vibrate into dust, Thrasel also activated Diminisher so it would be a permanent death for him.
|
After she narrowly defeated Daicas, she collapsed, losing consciousness. Moonstay materialized and quickly recovered her. She did not understand what just happened. Daicas was superior to her in every way, but she somehow beat him after a surge of energy just before Daicas could deliver a final blow. She did not understand whether this was a random surge in power or some kind of Method she had but did not discover earlier due to not fulfilling its requirement, and being close to death. Either way, even though her Spur recovered her, her wounds did not heal, which unnerved her. She understood that Daicas' weapon, Bloodcoated Blade, was able to hinder healing somehow, an effect it retained even after Daicas' demise. With her only remaining arm, she recovered the blade as a prize.
Palova was still a warzone and Thrasel was not in a position to fight as the damage she took against Daicas was persistent. She returned to Astrava and gave the Bloodcoated Blade to Astrava Laboratory to analyze it and possibly find a potential new wielder. After Daicas' death, most Fleeters on Palova retreated to the Moon. Thrasel saw this as an opportunity to improve relations with Gor-Talith and send reinforcements to the Moon to aid Cavils of Talith Congregation against the remains of the Crimson Fleet. The Second Calamity was over. Palova survived.
Appearance and Personality[]
Thrasel is a woman of average stature. She has long, dark-green hair which she keeps hanging from both sides of her shoulders towards her chest. She wears a golden-patterned white garment cloak and white shoes. She wears so much clothes her body is fully obscured. Typical for Palovan, she wears a mask, and her mask has no facial features including eye slots, being plain white.
Thrasel is a suspicious and cautious woman. When he was first revived as a Chosen, she ignored her Spur's dirge and followed the path of her own. She distrusted her Spur and did not speak to it for several days, even refusing to give it a name. She maintained this suspicion even when she was being killed and revived over and over by her Spur. Only after the events of Sbasa did she start speaking to her Spur, give it a name, and follow its instructions.
She continued being confused and suspicious, she did not understand why there was so much petty conflict, and people who risked their lives for something they believed to be greater than themselves. She settled on Astrava, but her thoughts were maintained even after her Sentinel Core visit and having lived there for over a year. But gradually she comes to care about the people, not only Astarvars but Palovans as a whole. As Thrasel learned more about history, the more worried she became. She understood that she lived in a dark era, and was chosen to do something about it. She wasn't going to waste her time fighting for only one tribe, she understood that unification of Palovans must be achieved no matter what. Despite how impossible that goal seemed at the time, with centuries of disunity and bittering conflict between various factions, she never lost her determination and pursued this goal to the end. She understood that as a Sentinel, she had endless lives to spare, and believed that she should dedicate it to something greater. Her determination and care for Palovanity only grew after decades of progress and the eventual unification of Palova under Pinnacle, and she would continue to dedicate her life to protecting and exalting what she and her followers spent so much to create.
Even though she cares for all Palovans, Thrasel is pragmatic, she does not have dogmatic beliefs or superstitions. She does not harbor hate for outsiders and is willing to make peace with them if the chance arrives, evidenced by her actively pursuing a policy of non-aggression with the Talith Congregation.

Stamina: Superhuman to Infinite. Sentinels have no need for sustenance as they subsist off of their Spurs, but can still get tired and need resting breaks, Thrasel can fight constantly for days with no rest and can use Loot Sifting to absorb energy from the sun as a substitute for resting
Range: Standard Melee Range, Extended Melee Range with Sword and Spear, Tens of Meters with Pistol (Pistol has an effective range of around 70 meters), Hundreds of Meters with Windration (Windration has an effective range of around 200 meters), Interdimensional with Spur Portals (Spurs can open portals to Primeval Plane, which is another realm separated from Middlescape) | Same as before, up to Hundreds of Meters with Gravwell and Phanon Blast (Gravwell has an effective range of around 300 meters, Phanon Blast has an effective range of around 600 meters), at least Planetary with Golden Veil Windration (Golden Veil Windration can easily cross this distance)
Standard Equipment: Sword, Spear, and a Pistol powered by Phanon
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius. Thrasel overshadows many other Sentinels in terms of cognitive capability, who are all Geniuses in their own right and can learn languages and complex skills such as marksmanship in a matter of minutes. She learned multiple Methods that require extensive understanding of and control over Phanon as well as focus. A highly capable figure, while even new recruits are this capable. She outmaneuvered and defeated Kryn-ge-Raned vyn Taryal and caused him to end himself when she was just an Aspirantmond, while other Aspirantmonds were defeated by him even outnumbered. She organized and ruled an entire organization behind the scenes, convincing many to join her side, culminating with the unification of the entire Palova in a few decades.
Standard Tactics:
Thrasel generally opens with CQC with Chillmantle while using Ground Sifting and Telepoator to assist her, though she may do whatever is more beneficial depending on what she predicts and learns about her target with her analytic capabilities
Same as before but she's also likely to start with long-distance attacks such as Phanon Blast and Windration, but same as before she will do whatever is most effective based on her Precogaze and Fullread. Against a powerful opponent that can be a problem for her, she might use Silver Veil or even Golden Veil to end the fight as fast as possible to avoid risk
Same as before, likes to and will abuse Vanishslash a lot if she's able to, as well as fusing Spatial Slash to all of her attacks as long as it will not turn detrimental for her
Weaknesses: Can be permanently killed if her Spur, Moonstay, is destroyed. There is a brief period of weakness immediately after Spur revives her each time
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Sentinel: Thrasel is a Sentinel. Sentinels are fallen individuals who were revived by Spurs manifested by one of the Sphere. This grants her immortality as her Spur will resurrect her if she's killed in any way. This also allows her to subsist off her Spur alone, as well as a very potent learning capability allowing her to go from not knowing what a gun is to becoming a capable marksman in a short time, and even reaching the capabilities of Aspirantzes in less than a day. This learning potency is accelerated during combat situations
- Proficiency: Thrasel, as an Aspirantmond, is an incredibly competent combatant, she easily reached the position of being the most competent Aspirantmond in a matter of weeks. She is a master of many different Proficiency Paths, on a much greater scale than most Aspirantmond are
- Versaduelist: Verseduelists exhibit exceptional expertise in various combat arts to the point of knowing and fully mastering every single application of these combat arts and knowing everything these arts can ever be used to achieve. They also are very proficient across various combat disciplines involving close-range weapons, as well as extensive knowledge in marksmanship with various weapons/abilities
- Sensethruster:Sensethrusters have exceptionally heightened senses. They can perceive their surroundings down to an atomic scale, and usually in a radius around them. They can perceive sounds and sights from kilometers away. They can see, interact with, and harm unphysical phenomena such as smoke, shadows, and beings of Contour as if they are solid or physical
- Morphforger: Morphforgers have extensive control over their own physique down to an atomic level. These characters can alter their shape considerably, conjure weapons out of their body, and even partially counteract blunt force damage by readjusting their structure.
- Mentalweaver: Mentalweavers can effectively control their bodies like puppets guided by their mind rather than conventional movement. For these individuals, the thought of moving is the same as moving itself, and there is no delay between the mind and the body. This allows them to perform hundreds of rapid jumps and flips both in-ground and in the air, move through any terrain and glide in the air with maximum efficiency, move in a way that is not affected by air friction to perform instant full-speed movement without acceleration, and move in a way that makes no sound. They can also innately react to any incoming attack by dodging and launching a counterattack, even when no longer alive or conscious
- Miragestrider: Miragestriders can manifest numerous afterimages with their movement that perfectly replicate their own form, creating a perplexing and disorienting effect on opponents.
- Precogazer: Precogazers have exceptional clarity and understanding of their surroundings, they can not only gain clear insight into the physical movements as well as incoming attacks that do not require physical movement on the fly but can also predict the possible intent of their targets before they even have that intent simply by looking at their present state once
- Fullreader: Fullreaders can accurately glean information about individuals or objects, decipher their capabilities, combat methods, and their present intent with seemingly as little effort as a mere gaze, and prepare to counter what they were able to glean to the best of their abilities
- Teleporator: Teleporator is a common Method, it allows user to teleport through short distances, its usual range is around 30-40 meters but capable users such as Thrasel can teleport up to 100 meters
- Sifting: Thrasel is very capable in several forms of Sifting, a diverse technique that can grant various abilities
- Clear Sifting: The first Sifting technique she learned, Clear Sifting will passively remove any negative ailment she suffers from, such as poison or diseases. She can actively use it to remove such ailments from others as well
- Ground Sifting: The second Sifting technique she learned, Ground Sifting allows her to alter the ground itself. She can form new structures to stand on, even in the air, and can change the shape of the battlefield to benefit herself. These structures can also explode by her command, causing them to disappear
- Loot Sifting: The third Sifting technique she learned, Loot Sifting allows her to absorb the energy of the sun. Thrasel uses this energy to avoid rest times
- Fair Sifting: Fair Sifting passively negates the amplification of others and renders them invalid. Thrasel's Fair Sifting is potent enough to undo amplifications used by other Aspirantmonds and gets more potent as she grows
- Chillmantle: Thrasel learned Chillmantle. This ability allows her to lower the temperature drastically. She can infuse this with her limbs to quickly freeze the area of contact with any target she comes into contact with. This freeze is followed by the dismantling of their affected areas to freezing dust, the temperature of these dusts was measured to be 0 Kelvin, making Chillmantle lowest absolute
- Rapidaware: Thrasel can use Rapidaware, a primarily defensive technique that allows user to massively enhance their attention to block and dodge attacks far faster than themselves. She used this to keep up with and block attacks from those who previously saw her as an unmoving statue.
- Shakecall: Thrasel's Inborn Methd, Shakecall, allows her to manifest and control vibrations. She can cause violent vibrations and convulsions on anything she touches. This Method is quite limiting on its own and best used to produce Windration
- Windration: Windration Thrasel's signature Method, a Method she developed and is famous, or rather infamous for. This Method can be divided into two parts, the first part is Thrasel's Inborn Method Shakecall. The second part is Thrasel's usage of Windmance. By combining the two, Thrasel forms Windration and generates thin, sharp wind slashes of wind that can carry the vibrating effect far and wide, covering a much larger area. Both versions of Windration use the mass of the target against them and vibrate violently until the target is dusted away. Thrasel can control what is and is not affected by Windration
- Windmance: Thrasel is said to produce Windration by combining Windmance with Shakecall, meaning she is a Windmancer, allowing her to Windmance in various ways. She never uses Windmance on its own and always uses it in the form of Windration
- Silver Veil: Thrasel learned the Veil, she is capable of using Silver Veil, which is the first transformation form with five times greater power and durability
- Confine Pact: Confine Pact is a versatile Method. This allows users to invoke certain laws into reality, which all involved are bonded to follow and cannot break. This Method is primarily made to make deals and agreements all parties are bonded. In combat, it is commonly used to alter the conditions of the way Methods work. For example, lowering the damage output of a Method in exchange for increasing its damage or lowering its width to increase its height range towards a specific direction. Or sacrificing functions of an attack, or a Method, for a certain time, or forever, to attain an instant effect. Overall it is a very versatile Method with widespread usage.
- Gravwell: Reversal: Reversal of Gravwell allows the user to repel things away from themselves, rather than attracting them.
Golden Veil is the second stage of Veil transformation. This form is avaible for Archantmond and Paramountmond Thrasel. In addition to giving a large boost to power and durability, this form also gives access to certain Methods that can only be used when Thrasel transforms into this as per a Confine Pact.
- Flurry: Thrasel's Golden Veil comes with Flurry, which allows her to defy the physics and redefine her attacks, which she can use to make it so that she hits her target ten times when she only hits once, causing massive damage output due to simultaneous hits
- Golden Veil Windration: The Windration utilized by Thrasel while in this form is far, far more destructive and potent than regular Windration. Thrasel does not need to fire the wind and aim herself, as wind will be launched from her body to any direction she wishes, including all directions at once. It works as not slashes of wind, but rather as an omnidirectional wave of wind that can cover a much larger area, and the vibration is far more powerful than the regular version, causing much faster destruction. This version of Windration also has a far greater range and indicates the Vibration effect quickly. This Windration can also be used as a forcefield against physical attacks, as all physical attacks and projectiles will convulse and dust away by Windration just as they get close to Thrasel
Thrasel's Spur is named Moonstay. As a Sentinel, Thrasel is reliant on her Spur for her revival as well as bulk of her strength.
- Contour form: A Spur's true existence is a being made of contour, and not of matter. Spur's matter-based self, which is also called a Spur, is used by Spur to interact with reality, as their contour-based true form is incapable of doing so. Both true form and matter-based form will not age or decay, but the destruction of matter-based form effectively destroys a Spur, as their contour-form cannot interact with reality or do anything.
- Unphysicality: Spurs normally exist as beings of Contour, and are not made of physical matter. Their physical form is merely a vessel they use to interact with reality, which is also made up of Kernel energy attached to their Sentinels. This unphysical energy form can manifest into a corporal form, a form that is similar to that of a tennis ball in size and appearance, and can alternate between unphysical and corporal two forms at any time they want, but corporal form is necessary for Spur to revive or heal
- Revival: Spurs can and will revive and heal their Sentinels if they are killed or damaged too much. Destruction of the Spur or preventing it from reviving its Sentinel is necessary to permanently defeat a Sentinel, as Spur will revive at any chance it gets. Spurs cannot combat on their own, they can dodge, or even run away if the situation is too dangerous for them, and return at another time to revive their Sentinels. After revival, there is a brief moment of weakness Sentinel experiences and a moment needs to pass for them to regain composure
- Invulnerability:: Spurs are highly durable, unaffected by damage caused by their own Sentinels, or those comparable to them, thus making them more durable than their own Sentinels
- Proficiency: Spurs have much greater proficiency in terms of analytic capability than their own Sentinels, to the point those compared to their own Sentinels often cannot land hits on Spurs.
- Door: Spurs can open portals to different parts of the world, or other celestial objects, and other realms.
