...You don't even know who you are talking to, do you? I thought Moonfall told you himself... unless he hid like the coward I saw him as. I am Warden, the Grand Inquisitor of the Void, and second only to Father Azathoth himself. And I will not allow the Will of the Fathers be usurped!
~ Warden during his first meeting with Zephyr

Your ideals are nothing. Your passions are nothing. Your relationships are nothing. You. Are. Nothing. And now you're about to die like nothing. And no one will remember you except for the awful things you have done.
~ Warden's breaking of Michael's will

Summary[]

The Warden is the final antagonist in the Eden era of Deus Ex Gyrus. Once upon a time, he was known as the god of light, Adam, but after being overtaken and shattered by his successors to protect the newly-born World Tree, he was scattered across the void. His nonexistence was given new form by the void god Azathoth, becoming a wraith. Now, the Warden acts as judge, jury, and executioner, eliminating any threat he is told to.

Name: The Warden, Adam

Origin: Champions of Chaos

Gender: Male

Age: At least 13.8 Billion (Older than the World Tree)

Classification: Wraith, Steward of the Maelstrom, Grand Inquisitor of the Void

Themes:

Powers and Abilities:

Wraith Physiology, Immortality (Types 2, 4, 7, and 8; The Warden is the ghost and later corpse of a fallen deity, who remained alive despite his entire body being shattered into pieces and scattered across the void, and who could fight without issue even while missing his heart. His existence is also reliant on the Maelstrom, stating outright that the only way he could die was if Zephyr took it down with him, and he is able to resurrect himself endlessly from Nezha), Martial Arts, Weapon Mastery (Comparable to Zephyr in direct hand-to-hand combat, though Zephyr is slightly superior, winning out in final clashes more often than not), Accelerated Development and Reactive Evolution (Grew stronger after every fight, developing and even retaining powers from his Parries while actively ironing out his flaws), Immersion (Can travel to the Dreamscape), Telekinesis (Telekinetically pulled in a Wraith through a wall), Camouflage (Can completely suppress his presence from even Zephyr, doing the same to the Champions of Chaos to prevent Divinity from locating them), Light Manipulation (His Prism Lasers were stated to dim any normal star in the World Tree), Crystal Manipulation (Can generate azure crystals to fire at foes), Danmaku (The Warden can fire hundreds of these crystalline projectiles at once), Petrification (The Warden's crystals nigh-instantly convert someone into crystal, having petrified Deedee's legs before she even realized they were being converted), Deconstruction (Foes converted into crystal are shattered within seconds, even without The Warden's ability. This even works on Sacred Relics like Shadowdancer), Reactive Evolution and Power Mimicry (The Warden's ability, powered by Azathoth, is called "Perfect Parry", letting him react to and instantaneously generate a counter to any ability he is forced with. Attacking him with Darkness will cause him to generate Light to counter it, attacking with Antimatter will cause him to create a Tesseract shield, et cetera. It has been stated to counter elements, reality warping, relativity, negation, and even other counter-based abilities, and his mimicries have been shown to be outright more powerful than the abilities he copied, with things like transmutation taking effect faster, and light overpowering darkness instead of cancelling it out), Life Manipulation (Condensed the Urano inside a Wraith's body in order to forcibly create a soul), Teleportation, BFR (Sent the Champions of Chaos scattering across the World Tree with a snap of his fingers, save for Zephyr), Time Travel (Sent Michael and Crystal over 100 years into the past), Extrasensory Perception (Can sense ripples in reality), Mind Manipulation and Soul Manipulation (Shattered Alana's soul casing, sending her Mind and Urano floating freely around her body, with the word "Sever"), Social Influencing (Subtly manipulated Drexus' train of thought to make him lead The Warden to the pieces of his body. Seemingly specializes in breaking foes emotionally, as shown with Moonfall, Alana, and Michael), Self-Destruction (Can blow himself up at any time to escape a foe), Technology Manipulation (Took control of the Star Dragon's broadcast systems to send a message to the entire cast), Resistance to Mind Manipulation (Unaffected by the Great Eye forcing him to kneel), Existence Erasure (Was not erased by the Thresholds)

Void Manipulation (The void around him twisted and distorted when he was angered. Capable of manipulating the Maelstrom, the Great Eye, and the Warp, the three primordial forces of the Void), Explosion Manipulation (Can detonate Wraiths with his third eye, destroying their spectral forms), Immortality and Regeneration Negation (Types 1, 3, 6, and 8; Up to Mid-Godly. The Three Great Powers are responsible for forming Wraiths, and are able to kill them and prevent their regeneration), Absorption (Absorbed Iruni's fragments into his third eye. Can drain energy directly, sucking The Nexus out of Aaron's hammer), BFR (Things absorbed by the Warden's third eye are sent to the Great Eye, a prison within the Void that even Infinity users cannot escape from, and that Zephyr could not access), Mind Manipulation (The Great Eye is capable of controlling minds and manipulating psychic energy), Madness Manipulation (The Great Eye can drive people mad), Energy Manipulation and Weapon Creation (Can manipulate the energy of the Great Eye, Maelstrom, and Warp, although he prefers the former two. The Great Eye can be used to create weapons), Power Bestowal (Scaling from Michael, who could enhance Ragnarok's power with his own Third Eye), Light Manipulation and Order Manipulation (The Great Eye is said to be the Light that brings Order to the void), Precognition and Clairvoyance (The Third Eye can sense budding mental energy. Michael likened it to "predicting thoughts" and compared it to Evan's prediction of actions), Energy Projection (Can send out waves of psychic energy with the Great Eye), Matter Manipulation (Scaling to Michael, who reconstructed a destroyed palace), Dream Manipulation (Scaling to Michael, who can control the dream avatar of Zephyr), Corruption (Type 3; Scaling from other Warp users, who can corrupt Wraiths and turn them into), Radiation Manipulation (The Warp is stated to be highly Radioactive, and Drexus likened it to the Chernobyl Disaster on a cosmic scale), Chaos Manipulation (The Warp is stated to be chaotic in nature, and is opposite to the Great Eye), Creation (The Warp is used to create items from nothingness), Life Manipulation (The Warp constantly creates eldritch horrors as a mere by-product of its existence, even after being degraded from its original power), Weather Manipulation, Black Hole Creation (Can generate Maelstroms, singularities of swirling void storms that annihilate anything in their path), Reality Warping (The Maelstrom is stated to be the basest of all base elements, and a swirl of "everything at once")

Invulnerability, Attack Reflection and Absorption Negation (The Warden's crystals can break even invulnerable weapons like Shadowdancer. Perfect Parry is able to counter defensive abilities. Shattered the Apex Armor despite its ability to absorb any blow and send it back at the attacker), Physics Manipulation (Stated to counter Relativity itself), Reality Warping (Stated to counter Warping), Elemental Manipulation (Can generate any element, including Chaos Elements, to counter their opposites), Vector Manipulation (Reflected the vectors of Zephyr's sword strikes), Damage Transferal (Cut off Reyna's arm when she did the same to him), Weapon Creation (Created exact copies of Zephyr's weapon volley. Can create copies of the Poison Saber), Intangibility (Phased through Zephyr's punch despite his Non-Physical Interaction), Time Manipulation (Countered Evan's time loop to pull him back to the present), Spatial Manipulation (Restrained Zephyr in an infinity prison when Zephyr tried to do the same to him), Statistics Amplification, Statistics Reduction (Countered Evan's buff on himself to slow him down to even slower than he was, and did the opposite when Evan tried to slow him), Time Manipulation (Through copying the Timeforce that Jay was using, gained the ability to manifest gears that can accelerate, slow, stop, and reverse time around him)

Same as before, plus Resistance to Vector Manipulation (Zephyr could no longer defeat Warden by taking advantage of his automatic Vector-based reflection)

Breaking the Fourth Wall (Countered and subsequently mimicked Drexus' Ink Manipulation, and awakened to the Threshold, or "Studios". Since then, Warden has constantly referenced the "Writers" across his existence, though was unaware of the Throne Gods. Broke into layer 15 of the Threshold, when Drexus could only reach layer 5), Reality Warping and Plot Manipulation (Gained the ability to manipulate Ink after copying Drexus. Shown to be comparable or superior to all other Ink users in the setting, including Zephyr, Michael, and Drexus), Existence Erasure (Stated that he could erase the entire Etronian fleet. Erased an army of Jays temporarily, though they were able to recover), Time Stop (By halting the flow of the "Plot", The Warden can stop time to think of actions for himself), Causality Manipulation, Teleportation (Through "What if?", Ink users can retroactively change the positions of people and objects, even acausal beings like Zephyr himself, to cause them to attack each other and themselves), Fate Manipulation (Ink users can write in the Book of Fate, allowing them to change the fates of themselves and others. Fate and Plot are considered two halves of the same coin, with the former acting as the future and the latter acting as the past, the two meeting in the middle to form the present. Altered the past so that Michael was Anakis instead of Zephyr, despite Anakis being stated to be a Kitsune), Soul Manipulation, Fission (Zephyr forcibly expunged a hollow from Alternate Michael's body), Dimensional Travel (Those awakened to the Threshold can move between areas by going "Offscreen", allowing them to access even otherwise-hidden places so long as the "Narrative" is focused on those places), Weapon Creation (God Ink users can manifest Pens that allow them to channel their powers, though as shown with Michael, this is not explicitly necessary), Extrasensory Perception (High-level Ink users are always aware of "Important" events going on, allowing them to travel to those places at any time), Power Nullification (Can nullify Drexus' Ink armor with Omit. With Copyright Strike, nullified every weapon Zephyr summoned from a fantastic branch), BFR (Pulled Crystal, Alana, and Excelion into the warp by plucking them from their place), Body Puppetry (Controlled the bodies of half the champions and puppeteered them around)

Copied the Fatebuster to form the "Fakebuster", which includes Fate Manipulation (Made to nullify the power of other Plot manipulators), Statistics Amplification (Amplifies the wearer's statistics immensely, Regeneration (Can heal itself), Energy Projection (Possesses a chest laser), Regeneration Negation (Zephyr's Fatebuster prevented Warden's from healing), Causality Manipulation and Healing (Zephyr's Fatebuster restored Alana's body and mind), Resistance to Power Mimicry (Makeshift could not copy this armor, despite being able to copy God Ink), Plot Manipulation (Alternate Michael's pen was shattered when it tried to destroy the armor), and Power Nullification (The Warden could not destroy Zephyr's Fatebuster with Copyright Strike, despite its design being based on something from a Yellow timeline)

Same as before, plus Light Manipulation (As the former God of Light, Adam is able to manipulate the Chaos Element in its entirety), Social Influencing (Light is stated to give the user increased social skills), Aura, Empathic Manipulation (Light Users are possessed by an aura that makes them loved by all around them), Heat Manipulation (Light's most basic attack is the formation of searing rays of light), Purification (Light users can forcefully purify others with Light), Memory Manipulation, Mind Manipulation (Purified victims become puppets to the will of the user, who can also wipe memories with a wave of their hand), Forcefield Creation, Weapon Creation (Can form weapons and barriers of light), Danmaku (Created hundreds of tendrils of light at once), Size Manipulation (Grew to planetary sizes during his battle with Zephyr and Juliel), Explosion Manipulation (Caused the signature weapons of the Champions of Chaos to explode in their faces), Summoning (Created an army of light soldiers with a thought to fight Zephyr and Juliel), Duplication (Duplicated himself to fight Zephyr's clones), Memory Manipulation (Replaced Drexus' memories to make him attack the cast), Conceptual Manipulation, Fate Manipulation, Death Manipulation, Poison Manipulation (Created an array of Poison Sabers. These weapons inflict a conceptual, unavoidable death that the user can control due to the poison they are made from), Regeneration Negation (Mid-Godly, possibly High-Godly) and Immortality Negation (Types 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8; The Poison Saber can kill Wraiths and Deities, including The Warden himself)

Same as before, but vastly enhanced

Attack Potency: Multi-Solar System Level (As a fallen god, Warden is far and away the most powerful Wraith in the Void. Humiliated Skolas and defeated him over and over again for billions of years. Stated by Moonfall to be more powerful than the Champions of Chaos combined and doubled, which would include Locke Evangelos. His lights are stated to dim stars), High Universe Level with Energy Absorption (Absorbed the Nexus, an infinite storm of Mana) | Multi-Solar System Level (Stronger than before after having Perfect Parry augmented by Azathoth), High Universe Level with Energy Absorption | Multi-Solar System Level (Fought Fatebuster Zephyr, and is significantly stronger than before), Galaxy Level with Fakebuster (It should have a comparable increase in power to the original, and was amplified by Azathoth himself), High Universe Level with Energy Absorption Universe Level+ Environmental Destruction with Ink (Superior to Michael, who destroyed the Dreamscape while light-corrupted. Collapsed one of Reyna's universes around her with a flood of Ink) | Multi-Galaxy Level (Battled against Juliel and Zephyr simultaneously, wounding them both), High Universe Level with Energy Absorption, Universe Level+ Environmental Destruction with Ink | Multiverse Level+ (As a Precursor, is equal in power to Azathoth and Shudde M'ell, beings capable of devouring the World Tree in its entirety)

Speed: At least FTL (Drexus was afraid of him) | At least FTL (Consistently defeated the Void Games Arc Champions of Chaos), FTL+ with Perfect Parry (Can copy the buffs of others, doing so to Evan's time acceleration, which should be superior to Zephyr's Hex Accel) | At least FTL, FTL+ with Perfect Parry | Massively FTL (Kept up with Etro-possessed Zephyr and Juliel, fighting them both at once) | Immeasurable (Comparable to Eve, whose mere egg sprouted into an infinite series of timelines)

Lifting Strength: At least Class Z (Superior to all the Champions of Chaos), likely Immeasurable with his Incomplete body (Should be comparable to Juliel, who sustains her own infinitely-sized dimension). Immeasurable when complete (Vastly superior to Eve's Egg, which hatched into the World Tree, a series of infinite timelines)

Durability: Multi-Solar System Level (Unaffected by attacks from Drexus and Moonfall, the latter of whom was scared of him far before the Void Games Arc) | Multi-Solar System Level | Multi-Solar System Level, Galaxy Level with Fakebuster | Multi-Galaxy Level (Took a sustained barrage of attacks from Juliel and Zephyr. Should be comparable to his durability) | Multiverse Level+ (As a Precursor, is equal in power to Azathoth and Shudde M'ell) |

Stamina: Infinite (Wraiths do not get tired. Absorbed the Storm, an infinite source of energy)

Range: Interplanetary (One of his beams eclipsed the Solar System), Multiversal+ with Dimensional Travel and Reality Warping (Caused the entirety of the Void to warp around him when he got angry)

Standard Equipment: None Notable, typically using his fists or copied weapons for fighting.

Intelligence: Genius. As the former god of light, The Warden is a foe capable of matching the Champions of Chaos in combat and manipulating them to further his own plans to reform his own body. Extremely knowledgeable on the void, and can navigate its infinite dimensionless depth under his own power. Also highly creative with his Ink manipulation, being superior to Drexus in this regard.

Standard Tactics: The Warden generally attacks with his Crystals as an opening move, and when the opponent attempts to strike back, he will nullify their abilities systematically with Perfect Parry, all while taunting them to drive them into despair and hopelessness. He has a knack for figuring out a person's emotional weaknesses, like the champions' beliefs in their weapons being indestructible, and exploiting them by nullifying the weapons in question. If Enraged, The Warden will attack with far wider beams of light and melee attacks, a barrage so continuous that opponents of comparable power cannot get a single blow in as they're beaten down to their soul.

Weaknesses: Perfect Parry cannot work on things he is unaware of, allowing the combined forces of Etronia to slowly overwhelm him by hitting him with more attacks than he can focus on. Completely insane and focused on trying to interfere with the willpower of the writers, something which led to his death. Arrogant in the belief that Perfect Parry has no weaknesses, and will outright explain his power to his opponent to drive them into despair.

Key: Base | Augmented Perfect Parry | Ink Parried | Heartless God | Adam

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

  • Perfect Parry: The Warden's primary ability. Enhanced by the Void god Azathoth, Perfect Parry lets the user generate a counter to any ability on the spot. It is considered to be one of the sole most powerful abilities in the history of the Throne's simulated universes due to its versatility and power. With this, Warden can generate any power in existence to counter those levied at him. He generates slashes of darkness to counter slashes of light, manifests copies of a storm of weapons, and copies any magic or Aether type he sees, able to even copy the Ink used by Drexus. This even extends to abilities not directed at him, or indirect attacks. A mage that buffs himself before fighting The Warden will find those buffs reversed, taking him to a point weaker than he was before casting the buffs. Similarly, debuffing the Warden will only lead to that being reflected onto the initial debuffer. He was even able to counter Drexus' ink and gain access to it himself, simply due to the fact that Drexus was using it in an unrelated spot to his battle. As stated by fellow wraith Baxitus, his ability counters elements, warping, negation, relativity, and even other counter-based powers. Warden has used this to manifest volleys of copied weapons, crush someone in their own Infinity prism, copy the powers of other gods, manipulate time to force a time traveller back to the present, transfer wounds from himself to another, and recreate the Arks of The Aspects, though in the case of producing Dissidia the copy was unstable and shaky.
    • Perfect Parry has a weakness in that it can only work on attacks the user is aware of. Being completely blindsided by Nezha while his full attention was on Zephyr left an opening, even if he was able to regenerate the resulting wound. However, his three eyes, ESP, and general sensory abilities make this nigh impossible to exploit.
  • Crystals: The Warden's secondary ability. He is able to form and fire crystals that solidify and consume whatever they touch. The Warden can fire these in volleys, and they completely shatter a foe in a matter of seconds.
  • Third Eye: The Warden's third eye, a manifestation of the Great Eye, one of the three forces of void. This eye is able to instantly detonate a Wraith's spectral form, killing them and absorbing them into itself.
  • Ink: The colloquial term for Black Aether, and sometimes known as "Plot". Ink is a rarely-seen element of Aether, one utilized only by a select few and above the bounds of the gods, having no patron deity and no purveyor to control it. Ink manipulates the past and future, controlling the narrative of reality to influence it in whatever way the user wishes. Through altering the past, "Plot", and the future, "Fate", the user can alter any event they want, making themselves utterly invincible.
    • The Threshold: A realm beyond the World Tree, and beyond even the Void. Thought by some to be lower layers of Deus Ex Machina, and by others to be a secret place run by shadowy beings called the "Writers", this place acts as an area where users of Ink can hide, moving "Offscreen" from the perception of other beings to observe them from a higher plane of existence. Through this, the user can view any spot they want, zeroing in on what is "narratively important" to travel to there instantly.
    • Edit: Manifesting a remote-like device as a conduit, The Warden can freeze the progression of causality. This is not time manipulation; Rather, it is freezing the very unfolding of the story of reality, allowing only the wielder to have autonomy. In this place, he can erase, shift, or alter events in whatever way he pleases. Erasing entire armies from existence, causing sacred weapons to explode in the faces of their wearer, and stealing the weapons of others are all within the grasp of The Warden when using this power.
    • Omit: Coating his hands in Ink, The Warden is able to utterly erase narrative elements, destroying Drexus' "Plot Armor" that he formed, and attempting to erase the Fatebuster in a similar manner.
    • Copyright Strike: The Warden's ultimate ace in the hole against Zephyr. For Highwind, a person who borrowed the power of weapons and denizens from fantastical branches across the world tree, Warden viewed him as a mere thief stealing powers instead of fighting with his own strength. This ability, named humorously, was designed to nullify any item created by a fantastical branch. While the idea was forged to erase Zephyr's options, it backfired when Zephyr revealed that, rather than a thief who stole powers, Zephyr was an inheritor of human will, subconsciously using Star Aether to undo The Warden's nullification over his arsenal in its entirety.
  • Light Manipulation: Adam's power as a God of Light. Light, or Yellow Aether, is a power exclusive to a select few. It manipulates order and holy power, and has an incredible amount of applications ranging from the subtle to the destructive. A side effect of Light is that the user inevitably becomes corrupted by it, his methods becoming more and more authoritarian and tyrannical. However, as the original progenitor of light, The Warden is an utterly irredeemable being, his very existence synonymous with tyranny and absolute order, striking down any who get in his way without a second thought. This lack of inhibition makes him a powerful controller of light, above the purveyor Michael Ellend and his patron god Arcus.
    • Mental Abilities: Light can be used to "Purify" someone's mind. This can remove negative emotions and cleanse evil urges, but it has a more sinister side as well. Those with Light powers generally find themselves loved and respected by those around them regardless of their actions, and this can be used more actively to erase a target's memories or outright brainwash them to be under the control of the user.
    • Move that Always Wins: Another humorously-named ability by The Warden. It is simple, an omnidirectional wave of light tendrils that annihilate everything they touch, but it is a move that he can use over and over again. burning enemies down until not even their concept remains.
