RavenloftDiary
MENTITUR INTRA SEQUUNTUR SOMNIA

Summary[]

The Tomes of Nightmares are a selection of artifacts from the plane of Ravenloft. Put simply, the tomes are sentient self-writing novels that record and document every nightmare, thus imprinting them upon the realities of Ravenloft.

Infamously, the Tomes were once tinkered with to change reality itself- whatever was written became true inside of the Nightmare. It was with this power that many alterations were performed, some of which have yet to be restored.

While there are many tomes (with each one controlling a different aspect of Ravenloft, another reality), the most notable ones are all held by the Ravenloft Citadel.

The Tomes were created when the Night Serpent, Dendar, corrupted the first dream, thus creating the first nightmare. When the realms of Ravenloft came into existence, the Tomes were there, quietly recording the monstrosities of the realm.

Powers and Stats[]

Tier: Unknown, Low 2-C in Ravenloft

Name: Tome of Nightmares, The Ravenloft Diaries

Origin: D&D Homebrew

Age: Billions of years old

Classification: Eldritch Book

Wielders: The Ravenloft Citadel, a small child

Powers and Abilities: Reality Warping, Plot Manipulation, Information Manipulation, Dream Manipulation, Law Manipulation, Morality Manipulation, Transmutation, Mind Manipulation, Existence Erasure, Regeneration (Mid-Godly), Power Nullification, likely far more

Attack Potency: Universe level+ (Erased an entire Nightmare of Ravenloft, and eventually regenerated that Nightmare; Nightmares are entire realities built from the recurring nightmares created by the Night Serpent)

Speed: Nigh-Omnipresent (Its will is latent throughout whatever Nightmare it controls)

Durability: Unknown (Could have its pages torn out by a little girl)

Range: Universal

Weaknesses: Only works on the Ravenloft Nightmares; a single Tome can only affect a single Nightmare

Feats: When used to reorder one of the Ravenloft realities, the writer was able to...

  • Turn every denizen into a small rabbit
  • Force every creature to feel an overwhelming sense of love
  • Force every denizen to abide by some arbitrary basic laws (Share, Be Nice, etc)
  • Rewrote the sequence of the Nightmare into that of a beloved dream
  • Upon the Nightmare naturally beginning to return to its natural state, the child who held the book decided it should not exist- thus she wrote that it didn't. The plane itself ceased to be, though the book eventually regenerated.
  • Negates the divine powers of even Intermediate deities who attempt to tamper with it.

Note: This book is heavily sentient, and was formed from the primordial goop of the Ravenloft Mutaverse when it was created. Thus, without meddling, the book is capable of rewriting itself, should the current user be deemed inefficient at keeping the truth of the reality.
