“ | You have lived off my flesh and bone long enough, you animals. Cower as you like. The meteor that will deliver oblivion is named the Endbringer. At it's center is I, a piece of the death to come. And once I rupture your planet... perhaps it doesn't matter. Do as you will. | „ |
~ The Piece of Death's declaration to the Global Coalition |
Summary[]
The primary antagonist of Jack of All Trades as a whole. In the primordial void of existence prior to the creation of the universes, he was formed alongside the Grand Librarian, serving as their opposite as the embodiment of malevolence. While they initially battled to negate the other, they inevitably realized the impossibility of their goals, and decided to simply retain neutrality, resolving their desire to overcome the other by allowing the Librarian to create the universe, to see what results. Within this universe, the Harbinger of Death constantly preyed on humans for his own entertainment, bringing out their worst attributes as they die to turn them into a force of destruction against their fellow men, perpetuating a war between them and Alsandairs, the champions of humanity first crowned by the Librarian.
Eventually, this battle came to an end, as the Harbinger himself was suddenly dethroned by the greatest of them all; Xander Alsandair. His endlessly regenerating body was sealed across an infinite multiverse, and each piece was locked into a shallow replication of their personal space that they once observed the Original Universe from. Enraged, and with scant Pieces still possessing a notable power, their machinations began again, attempting to reclaim what was rightfully theirs.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: 5-C, High 4-C with the Final Hand of Darkness, Low 2-C via Environmental Destruction and Absorption | 2-A
Key: Piece of Death | Harbinger of Death
Name: The Piece of Death, Cruel Angel, the Darkness | The Harbinger of Death
Origin: Jack of All Trades
Gender: Inapplicable, takes a masculine form
Age: At least 27.6 billion years old (Predates the original universe to a nebulous extent, and was imprisoned in the ALSAN universe until the events of ALSAN)
Classification: Existence's idea of malevolence and other negative attributes
Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Large Size (Type 1; 66.6 meters tall), Immortality (Type 1, 3, 8, and 9; will continue to persist based on existence's "idea" of him), Regeneration (High-Godly, can regenerate from a complete lack of any substance despite not possessing a soul. Even Xander Alsandair attacking it's concept directly through sheer informational density failed to ultimately halt the Harbinger's ability to recover, forcing him to resort to sealing instead), Abstract Existence (Type 1, is an "idea" of existence, constituting all it's malicious elements and possessing body being comprised of a smokey, amorphous substance most equitable to Antimatter), Shapeshifting (Capable of freely morphing their body to a greater degree than a Crimson Phantasm, being capable of generating additional limbs to attack or turning it's entire body into a spike that can move at extreme speed. Capable of using this for even detached body parts, as it was able to cause roots to permeate Vermillion Striker's body after launching it's leg as a javelin), Flight, Physics and Matter Manipulation (Macro-Quantic, capable of firing attacks that induce Weak Force, causing the atomic structure of targets to fall apart completely and even experience nuclear fission), Danmaku (Capable of generating vast array of attacks on a whim, such as firing hundreds of thousands of spikes or firing a similar amount of Weak Force projectiles), Pocket Reality Manipulation (While confined within it, the Piece of Death is capable of drawing the recently departed into the Death Domain, as well as forcing his influence outwards from the center of the Endbringer to bring in the Men Against the End), Madness Manipulation, Fear Manipulation, Perception Manipulation and Soul Manipulation (Passively emits Ego-Death waves, which cause hysteria and panic to any exposed to it. If initially resisted, can progressively cause further distress via inducing targeted hallucinations. The Piece of Death is potent enough with this ability that he can halt Drivers in their tracks from the sheer stress of proceeding further, as well as concentrate it further to exploit moments of vulnerability), Corruption and Power Bestowal (Can corrupt souls via their necrotic energy, forcibly awakening their spiritual power and allowing the Piece of Death to completely control them), Absorption (Should be capable of replicating a Phantasm's life-draining effects, would assimilate the universe alongside all it's ethereal components upon the seal breaking), Conceptual Manipulation (Type 1, The Final Hand of Darkness is capable of tapping into the Primordial essence of the Piece of Death, manifesting the utmost of it's power as "pure destruction"), Non-Physical Interaction (Physically repelled and grabbed the black hole formed by Final Justice via the Final Hand of Darkness), Resistance to Soul and Mind Manipulation (Completely lacks a soul or conventional mind that can be attacked in order to harm him), Empathic Manipulation and Morality Manipulation (Fundamentally incapable of comprehending positive emotions or benevolent motivations, as their nature is only compatible with malevolence), Matter Manipulation (Not made of a conventional matter. Even among the Hyper Synchronized ALSANs, who could interact with his body as if it was, Joshua's Electromagnetic field was unable to outright tear him apart and the Ox Gargoyle's Narthex only took effect after he was notably weakened), Magnetism Manipulation, Gravity Manipulation, Space-Time Manipulation, Size Manipulation, Density Manipulation, Temperature Manipulation, Physics Manipulation (Extremely resilient to the abilities of the Fundamental Forces as a whole) | As before to a far greater extent, Acausality (Type 5, existed before time and resides entirely outside of it's flow)
Attack Potency: Moon level (Matched Vermillion Striker in a rapid clash of blows, who could move the cores of Venus and Mars with the help of Karl. Overwhelmed each individual Man Against the End, despite their ability to easily stop the Endbringer), Large Star level+ with the Final Hand of Darkness (Was capable of clashing with and containing Final Justice: End Of Days even when melted into sheer Hawking Radiation, albeit with significant struggle and the rapid decay of it's power), Universe level+ via Environmental Destruction and Absorption (By using the Endbringer to deal substantial damage to the Earth and kill every remaining human, the Piece of Death's seal would have it's core removed, causing it to rapidly unravel and funnel into their body) | Multiverse level+ (Required his essence to be sealed across infinite universes, each possessing infinite space and time in order to properly neutralize his power, with even this measure still leaving leftover fragments that were contained within Death Domains until they could be properly sealed away)
Speed: FTL+ (Could deflect the Blue Flash's initial railgun attack, as well as keep pace with them even as they started to reach the higher levels of their field output), up to Massively FTL via shapeshifting (Could rapidly maneuver as a spike of it's own essence, travelling far faster than the Men Against the End) | Immeasurable (Outside of time entirely, capable of observing it's effects like a book and freely travelling across it to their whims)
Lifting Strength: Class Y (Was capable of maintaining a grip on Vermillion Striker, only having it broken as a result of it's limbs being destroyed), Pre-Stellar with the Final Hand of Darkness | Immeasurable
Striking Strength: Moon level, Large Star level+ with the Final Hand of Darkness | Multiverse level+
Durability: Moon level, Large Star level+ with the Final Hand of Darkness | Multiverse level+
Stamina: Infinite (If not for their ability to progressively seal away his power, would have simply regenerated in perpetuity against the Men Against the End)
Range: Tens of Meters normally, up to Thousands of Kilometers (Could fire a barrage of spikes that travelled from the tectonic plates of earth to far beyond it's atmosphere. Should exceed the range in which the Endbringer could fire Weak Force projectiles and spawn Phantasms), Interdimensional with Soul Manipulation (Capable of stealing souls from the primary universe, provided they died in a way they believed was "unfair", as well as deploy Phantasms from such a range)
Standard Equipment: The Crimson Phantasms
Intelligence: Unknown (While ancient and possessing of a vast level of knowledge, their inclination towards negativity results in decisions founded in an obsession for sadism and violence, making their plans greatly variable in efficiency)
Standard Tactics: The Piece of Death relies heavily on it's regeneration to facilitate an unadulterated warpath, charging forward into a given enemy until some opportunity opens itself and not giving any focus to defense unless it permits a counterattack shortly afterwards. When it has an opportunity, it will attempt to torture and degrade it's enemies, using Ego Death waves if they may be susceptible or simply causing painful and debilitating damage. When pushed into desperation, the target of it's assault shifts, focusing on immediately lethal areas with Weak Force in tow to make it's damage more certain. When faced with otherwise insurmountable power, it manifests the Final Hand of Darkness to overcome it.
Weaknesses: Unable to interact with conventional reality due to being sealed within the Death Domains, only bypassing this by collecting souls that died an "unfair" death and corrupting them into Phantasms. Extremely spiteful towards humanity, and easily finds himself wrapped up in a sadistic glee that distracts him from directly lethal maneuvers. The Final Hand of Darkness is incredibly strenuous, burning through his reserves of power at a rapid rate. While this is mitigated by his ability to recover, it still prevents the technique from being used perpetually.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Spike Form: A transformation the Piece of Death made notable use of, shifting their body into a thinner and more agile form that can move much more rapidly than his normal state. While this leaves them vulnerable to being broken apart to a barrage of attacks and thus having their motions disrupted, it provides a useful method for rapidly closing distance.
- Final Hand of Darkness: A technique that uses an extreme level of the Piece of Death's power, coalescing into pure destruction and outputting enough strength to outright grab the Final Justice, maintaining it's grip and preventing the Piece of Death from being entirely disintegrated even as it exploded into Hawking Radiation.
