Summary[]
The Sonic.exe: Nightmare Universe (Rewrite), known simply as Nightmare Universe or NU Rewrite, is a series of Sonic the Hedgehog fangames that focus on reimagining the Creepypasta story of Sonic.exe to make it seamlessly fit into the world of Sonic. The original series is based upon JaizKoys' series of the same name, and is developed by Mastered UI Kostas with writing and lore being done by E-200 Paragon and StormDev.
The story is set on an Earth-like world known as Mobius, and follows the perspectives of seven playable characters each surviving against the Archdemon Exetior, planning to turn them and the world entirely into Demons of his own image.
Over the course of the game, more details are revealed through the different perspectives of the characters that paint an even wider picture of what is really going on, as it turns out that there is a much bigger war brewing in the cosmos.
Timeline[]
Main Plot[]
Freedom Fighter Saga[]
- Sonic the Hedgehog - Eggman begins mining various ruins across Acrema for Chaos Crystals and Sonic has to stop him. During the conflict, Eggman destroys the reservoir inside the Ancient Labyrinth, causing Starlight City to collapse and form the hauntingly beautiful Azure Lake. The capital city of Mobotropolis is taken over by Eggman thanks to the invention of the Roboticizer and after its destruction, the Freedom Fighters are formed. The Roboticizer is repurposed into Neo Metal and accidentally transforms the Iron Forest into a sentient cybernetic organism, forcing Sonic and Eggman to stop it.
- Sonic CD - Eggman learns of the Time Stones and attempts to harness them in order to alter history. However, Sonic and Amy intervene so Eggman constructs the first version of Metal Sonic. The Time Stones are scattered across Mobius in the aftermath, causing Little Planet to wither and die. Metal Sonic is recovered by Eggman and would continue to be improved across the 12 years.
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Eggman utilizes an ocean base to construct the Death Egg, a powerful space station that could mass-produce entire armies of badniks. Sonic unleashes the power of the Chaos Emeralds for the first time and quickly learns just how destructive their power truly is. The Death Egg crashes intact into the northwestern region of the Artika, causing a cataclysmic ecological crisis that lasted for years.
- Sonic The Hedgehog 3 + Sonic & Knuckles - With the destruction of the Death Egg, Eggman continues his search into harnessing the powers of Chaos, eventually leading him to Angel Island. Eggman tries to harness the Master Emerald's power to construct a new Death Egg but his plans are thwarted by both Sonic and Knuckles. Meanwhile, a brief yet intense civil war breaks out amongst Eggman's badniks between Mecha Knuckles and Mecha Sonic. Mecha Knuckles tries to overthrow Eggman using an army of reprogrammed Eggrobos but Mecha Sonic defeats Mecha Knuckles.
- Sonic R - Eggman constructs Metal Knuckles and Metal Amy to accommodate Metal Sonic during his operations, thus forming Team Metal. A target practice robot resembling Tails manages to get ahold of a red Chaos Crystal, which grants it supernatural powers such as the ability to float and squeak. All four robots work together to steal a recently-discovered Time Stone but are thwarted by their organic counterparts.
- Sonic Adventure - A hostile firefight breaks out in Westopolis as Sonic witnesses its soldiers battling a glowing monster that looks like a sentient mass of blood. Sonic steps in and the two battle but the monster quickly escapes before Sonic can land a killing blow. Meanwhile, Eggman's newest series of robots, the E-Series, begin launching sieges on different locations to capture Sonic's friends. Sonic and the Freedom Fighters infiltrate the newly-built Egg Carrier and after Sonic frees his friends from aboard the Egg Carrier, the blood-red monster returns. Eggman introduces it as Hyh-Dro-Jen (originally called Dia-Li-Lax) and states that he witnessed the creature mind-controlling mobians and sought to weaponize it. With the help of four Chaos Emeralds, it battles the combined efforts of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy but they prove to be no match for its power. Suddenly, the Egg Carrier begins losing altitude due to the Freedom Fighters sabotaging the carrier's defenses, giving the heroes an advantage over Hyh-Dro-Jen. After its defeat, Eggman and Hyh-Dro-Jen escape to search for the remaining two emeralds while Knuckles heads off on his own to restore the Master Emerald. Upon escaping, Eggman monologues about how furious he is at Sonic defeating him once again but Hyh-Dro-Jen reveals its true nature by betraying Eggman. Hyh-Dro-Jen acquires the last two emeralds and transforms into the monstrous Pure Hyh-Dro-Jen. Hyh-Dro-Jen floods Westopolis in his fury but is destroyed thanks to the efforts of Super Sonic and the day is saved. Luckily for Exetior, the people of Mobius misperceive Hyh-Dro-Jen as being a mythical beast and thus, no one suspects the presence of the Demons.
- Sonic Advance/Sonic Battle - Eggman uncovers an ancient robot named Emerl that could copy abilities and combine with other machines to become stronger. After studying the technological components of this robot, Eggman created a new generation of badniks to phase out the need for animals. This leads to a technological revolution within his empire, allowing for the construction of much more advanced robots called Super Badniks. Vanilla becomes a double-agent for Eggman around this time and would later have Cream after going into hiding. Emerl decides to abandon Eggman and vanishes without a trace, forcing the doctor to construct various E-121 Phi models to compensate.
- Sonic Heroes - Eggman creates a brand new Egg Carrier that's sleeker and more advanced design and also manages to mass-produce an armada of ships called the Egg Fleet. With the full might of the Eggman Empire brought to bear, Sonic and his friends have 3 days to intercept the Egg Fleet before it lays waste to all of Acrema. The heroes face a myriad of forces including Team Metal, the E-Series, and even mobian traitors who want to benefit from Eggman's quest for world domination. Eggman unleashes his newest weapon, the Egg Emperor against the heroes but through the power of teamwork, they successfully put an end to Eggman's rampage.

Power of the Verse[]
The primary cast of the series are mostly Large Building level+, with characters like Sark and Super Sonic being Multi-Continent level due to their power being great enough to cause catastrophes on a global scale. The true power of the Primal gemstones such as the Master Emerald, Chaos Emeralds, Time Stones and Phantom Ruby, are Universe level+ due to them being able to create limitless energy[1][2][3] and with all of them being relatively equal in power[4], including the Time Stones which transcend and break time[5]. Beyond the mortals and demons lie the Highest, Purebloods and Exetior, whom are creator gods that have limitless power[6][7]. At the top tiers lie the four Primal Forces: Order, Chaos, Life and Death, who create closed off parallel dimensions separated by space-time[8] and are all above time and fate itself[9][10]. There are an infinite number of dimensions within the Nightmare Universe each with their own cosmic laws and physics that differentiate from one another[11][12][13], making the Primal Forces Multiverse level+ in power.
When it comes to speed scaling, characters can run at Superhuman speeds. Mobians such as Sonic can surpass the speed of sound, making him Transonic. Beings such as the Highest when not teleporting can likely travel at the Speed of Light. The Primal Forces exist in every dimension at once, making them Omnipresent.

Notes of the Verse[]
NOTE: The events of Finished Nightmare take place in a simulator, which functions just like the primary timeline itself.[14]
NOTE #2: Do not attempt to scale Super forms to their canon counterparts as they do not share most of their canon feats.
