~ Salem, losing patience with Oscar and Ozma |
Summary[]
An incredibly enigmatic woman of unknown origin, Salem is the true main antagonist of Dragon Ball RWBY. Many eons ago, Salem was a maiden with pale skin and blonde hair who lived in a time when Humanity was capable of performing magic. However, she was isolated and trapped in a castle by her cruel father. Many attempted to rescue her, and while most failed, only one was able to succeed, a hero named Ozma. After freeing her, the two went on adventures around the world, and eventually fell in love.
However, when Ozma passed away, Salem couldn't accept it. She sought out the God of Light and begged him to resurrect Ozma. However, when she was rejected, she turned to the God of Darkness, who accepted, unaware of his brother's decision. Her plot was discovered, however, and the two Gods cursed her to live eternally as punishment.
Still rejecting this reality, Salem slowly manipulated Humanity against the Gods, leading an all-out attack that ultimately failed and resulted in their complete obliteration. Left alone on the planet, she threw herself into the pits that spawned the Grimm, turning her into the dark creature she is currently.
Powers and Stats[]

Gender: Female
Age: Ten Million chronologically (Lived through humanity's extinction and rebirth. Has been around since Remnant was originally in the original universe before Remnant was swapped with Earth from Universe 7)
Classification: Human (Corrupted), Former Ruler of Remnant, Master of the Grimm
Powers and Abilities:
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Immortality (Types 1, 2, 3, and 8; Salem was cursed with immortality by the God of Light and God of Darkness, ensuring that she is unable to die so long as Remnant exists[4][5])
- Regeneration (Low-Godly, possibly High-Godly: History; Beerus states that Hakai wouldn't kill an Immortal. Hakai can completely erase one's body, soul, and even entire universes[6] along with their individual histories,[7] including multiple space-time continuums, so they cannot resurrect. Despite Beerus' capability of erasing existence across space-time without splitting the timeline[8]. Due to the curse placed on her by the Gods preventing her soul from reaching the afterlife, Salem is completely immortal,[4] allowing her to regenerate from any kind of physical damage so long as Remnant exists.[4] This includes regenerating from a sphere of energy,[9] being reduced to ash twice, crushed by a meteor,[10] countless failed suicide attempts,[11] and even falling into the Pools of Grimm, which were described as both a force of "pure destruction" and pools of "annihilation"[12][13])
- Self-Sustenance (Type 3; Stated by Jinn to be a being of "infinite life" and has never shown signs of needing rest. Even when injured and regenerating she can still move and attack)
- Supernatural Willpower (Can endure enormous amounts of pain with no reaction. She was able to fight unimpeded with her torso split in half and her skull caved in,[14] as well as being unbothered by stabbing herself through the stomach with a sword[10])
- Social Influencing (Is a master manipulator, who is not only capable of instilling fear in others to the point of them giving up, but can also convert them to her side)
- Ki Manipulation (Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z; Master level)
- Magic
- Statistics Amplification (Magic is able to amplify the strength of a user's abilities[15])
- Extrasensory Perception (Sensed that Cinder was alive after the Battle of Haven, despite not being there and everyone else believing she was dead[16])
- Flight (Is capable of flight)
- Telekinesis (Casually crushed a giant Nevermore.[10] Her anger was enough to shatter all the windows in her council room[16])
- Elemental Manipulation (Has access to elemental magic and mastery over the forces of nature)
- Air Manipulation (Manifested a tornado beneath her[14])
- Energy Manipulation (Able to conjure and fire blasts of energy[17])
- Forcefield Creation and Electricity Manipulation (Created an electrified barrier around herself[10])
- Fire Manipulation (Can launch fireballs and waves of fire[10])
- Clairvoyance (Viewed an ongoing battle with her crystal ball.[10] Her Seers are used to keep tabs on the Grimm and act as her eyes in the world[18][19])
- Smoke Manipulation, Shapeshifting, and Intangibility (Can create and shape smoke into various forms, such as the image of her daughters.[17] She can also shapeshift and travel as a cloud of smoke,[9] allowing her to bypass attacks)
- Inorganic Physiology (Type 1; As a cloud of smoke)
- Animal Manipulation (She has complete control over the Grimm's actions, and is powerful enough to not only command thousands with just a thought during the invasion of Atlas, but keep them from rushing the city until she began her assault)
- Enhanced Senses (As a Grimm hybrid, she possesses their ability to sense negative emotions, as well as the souls of living beings[20])
- Body Puppetry (The addition of Grimm on a being allows her to control them through it, as shown with both Cinder and The Hound[21][22])
- Corruption (Type 1), Deconstruction, Absorption, and Soul Manipulation (Can control the Pools of Grimm, a force of "pure destruction" which can both corrupt and disintegrate objects that enter it,[23][24] as well as absorb a being's soul, destroying it in the process.[20] As a Grimm hybrid, she is capable of the latter without the Grimm Pools)
- Creation, Biological Manipulation, and Power Bestowal (Able to create and alter different types of Grimm, granting them new physical attributes and powers[25])
- Fusionism (Can fuse multiple species of Grimm, such as the Nuckelavee. Created The Hound, which is a hybrid of a person and Grimm. Fused a Shadow Hand with Cinder's body to replace her arm)
- Enhanced Power Absorption (One Layer; Made both the Beetle and Shadow Hand, which can siphon Maiden powers, the latter being an improved version that can bypass Aura shields entirely)
- Summoning (Can instantly summon Shadow Hands from glyphs to restrain her opponents.[16] She is capable of doing so to multiple people at the same time all with no effort[14])
- Adhesive Manipulation (Fired a tar-like substance identical to the Beetle from her hand, using it to immobilize Yang[14])
- Limited Pain Manipulation (Tortured Cinder through her Shadow Hand[21])
- Elasticity (She is able to stretch her arms like the Nuckelavee, which she did to catch Emerald[14])
- Astral Projection (Appeared as an apparition through a Seer[26])
As Salem possesses the same magic as Ozma, which he bestowed[27] to the Maidens, as well as mentored Cinder to utilize these abilities, she likely possesses:
- Ice Manipulation (All Maidens have shown the ability to manipulate ice, including firing blasts of ice, launching bolts of ice capable of freezing people solid, freezing leaves to use as a barrage of blades, creating ice constructs, and directly freezing opponents solid)
- Earth Manipulation (Cinder combined chunks of rock with fire to create a flaming rock sword)
- Weather Manipulation (Amber, Raven, and Penny have shown the ability to create storms at will)
- Weapon Creation (Penny, Raven, and Cinder have all demonstrated the ability to conjure various elemental weapons)
- Weapon Control (Both Penny and Cinder are able to freely control the weapons they create independent of themselves)
- Explosion Manipulation (Cinder can cause her weapons to explode after launching them as projectiles)
- Breath Attack (Cinder can breathe fire)
Resistance to:
- Extreme Cold (Was unfazed by the sub-zero temperatures of Solitas, which is Remnant's North Pole[28])
- Ice Manipulation (Magic can be used to break free from being frozen[29])
- Deconstruction, Absorption, and Soul Manipulation (Survived a plunge into the Pools of Grimm, which disintegrates any object that enters it, as well as absorb and destroy a being’s soul[10])
Attack Potency: At least Moon level+ (Casually overpowered and harmed Dust Overdosed Hazel[14]. Should be at least comparable to if not stronger than The Wizard[Statistics Values 1]. Even her weaker magic is far superior to the likes of the Maidens, and was able to easily overpower Atlas Arc Ren and Jaune in one hit as well as easily restrain and overpower Dust Overdosed Hazel[14]. At her peak she killed Ozma in his prime[10])
Speed: At least FTL+ Reactions and Combat Speed (Should be at least as fast as the Maidens. Blitzed Emerald Sustrai and matched Dust-Overdosed Hazel[14]. Kept up with Ozma in his prime[10][14][14][Statistics Values 2])
Lifting Strength: At least Class G (Physically overpowered Dust Overdosed Hazel and casually restrained both Atlas Arc Yang, Piccolo, and Emerald simultaneously with one hand each[14][Statistics Values 3]), Class T with Telekinesis (Lifted an entire river of Grimm Liquid.[21] Her Shadow Hands were able to restrain Atlas Arc Jaune, Ren, Yang, Emerald, Piccolo, Dust Overdosed Hazel, and Oscar simultaneously[14][14][Statistics Values 4])
Striking Strength: At least Moon level+ (Harmed Hazel with her physical strikes[14])
Durability: At least Moon level+[Statistics Values 5], higher via Forcefields (Should be greater than her durability, as it is similar in nature to Ozma's[Statistics Values 6])
Stamina: Likely Infinite (As a "being of infinite life", Salem does not require rest. After being cursed by the Gods she spent eons restlessly wandering Remnant,[10] and has shown the ability to continue fighting even while severely physically injured, up to and including having her skull caved in and torso blown apart,[14] as even reducing her body to ashes barely slow her down[10]. During her first encounter with Hazel she outlasted him to the point that he was physically incapable of moving due to exhaustion while she was unfazed.[23] Should be vastly superior to the likes of Atlas Arc Teams RWBY, who can fight on and off for four days straight with minimal rest[30] and traverse numerous ruins all across Atlas, fight off an army of Grimm, take down an insurgency within the Atlas Military, and fight a team of professional Huntresses all within the span of a single day without any signs of exhaustion,[31] as well as the King of Vale, who fought off an entire army on his own during the Great War[32])
Range: Tens of Meters to Tens of Kilometers with Magic, Varies, up to Planetary with Clairvoyance (The max range is unknown with her crystal ball, while the range with her Seers is dependent on their locations, which can be stationed all across Remnant), Planetary with ki blasts and attacks
Standard Equipment: None notable
- Optional Equipment: Pools of Grimm
Genius. Salem has lived for countless eons, during which she acquired extensive knowledge of the nature of Aura and Dust, as well as an understanding of human nature, society and history. She is also extremely knowledgeable on the workings of Grimm, learning about their biology to not only alter them, as seen with the winged Beringels, but can graft them to humans, which she did to Cinder by giving her one to replace her missing arm. Furthermore, she used the knowledge gained to push past their limits by creating entirely new and unique ones to suit her needs, such as the Beetle, a Grimm capable of siphoning Maiden powers, Monstra, a mobile fortress to house an entire army, or The Hound, a fusion of Grimm with a living being.
She is a master manipulator, able to instill fear in others and can sway even the most steadfast into giving up or even joining her. When Hazel Rainart came seeking revenge for his sister's death, she demonstrated her immortality, allowing him to kill her continuously until he broke and joined her side. She managed to turn Leonardo Lionheart, a member of Ozpin's group and one he trusted with guarding the Relic of Knowledge to her side and have him act as a mole, delivering information on the group and getting Cinder's team into Beacon Academy as infiltrators. Raven Branwen, another member, fled from it all after learning more about Salem and returned to her tribe. Even after becoming a Maiden, she still refused to fight, stating that there was no beating her. When she declared to James Ironwood that she was personally coming to Atlas to collect the Relics, he decided that the best plan was taking Atlas and fleeing instead of staying to fight, believing that even with the greatest military in Remnant they were no match for her.
Weaknesses: None notable
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Magic: Salem, alongside the Maidens and Ozma, are among the few living characters who can perform True Magic, which was mostly lost after the God of Darkness erased the previous iteration of humanity. In battle, she commonly uses energy based attacks. However, she can also utilize elemental powers such as fire, electricity or even unconventional ones like smoke.
- Grimm Control: When the Gods wiped out humanity and left the planet, Salem jumped into the Grimm Pools in a last ditch effort to end her life. Instead, she was corrupted into a being of pure destruction with the ability to control the Grimm. Over the many millennia, she learned to master her new found powers, allowing her to not only alter the Grimm by giving them new abilities, but even create new ones to suit her needs.
- Immortality: Due to her transgressions against the Gods, Salem was cursed with immortality, preventing her from being reunited with Ozma. This curse prevents her from aging and falling to injury, letting her recover from any physical damage so long as Remnant exists.
