The SKS (Russian: Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова) is a designated marksman rifle within the XNDUIW community, which is designed by arms designer Sergey Gavrilovich Simonov in 1945. It was first produced in the Soviet Union, but was widely exported by various nations. Unlike the real-life model of the weapon (which is located on the VS Battles Wiki which you can find here), the weapon comes in two variants, one being a version with a detachable magazine, while another accepts stripper clips. It was manufactured in Tula and Izhevsk between the years of 1949 to 1958 and additional derivatives were manufactured under license by Chinese manufacturers respectively as well.

Beginning in 1988, millions of these rifles have been sold on the civilian market in North America, where they primarily remain popular as hunting and sporting rifles respectively as well, considering that the weapon has been included in the XNDUIW community since at least 2020. It is a gas-operated carbine, with a wooden stock, though it is typically loaded with ten-round box magazines, there is are versions with detachable magazines, with a lifting bolt and a operating rod that works to open and cycle the action through gas pressure within the weapon.

Usage history[]

A few years after the rifle entered into service in 1949, it was quickly rendered obsolete by the Soviet military in favor of the AK-47, which were adopted by Soviet soldiers in the front lines throughout the 1950's. Stockpiles of the weapon were donated to left-wing guerrilla movements around the world, particularly those affiliated with the communist regime. It was especially popular in southern Africa, where it was used by many insurgent armies who were plotting to topple the colonial rule in Angola, including several other countries which were then under such policies as well. By the 1980's, the SKS had been nearly superseded in international military service by the AK-47 and it's derivatives as well, considering that the popularity of the weapon in military forces was reduced in favor of the Kalashnikov family of firearms as well.

The weapon remains a considerably important weapon for hunters within North America, considering that certain models of the weapon were delivered to North America, despite sanctions against the Russian Federation afterwards. Chinese, and other European countries have produced their own licensed derivatives of the weapon, though the in-game version with the extended magazine may have been an invention of Chinese origin, though the real-life Type 63 operated in selective-fire, which is totally absent from this weapon as well.
