“ | I know such a thing. Forsooth, I am certain, by mine own soul, that I am verily the stain upon the world. | „ |
“ | What torment would it be to place faith in the hopes of those to whom I once belonged? But, O Creator... wherefore dost Thou send me a sign, only to fill me with such shame and disappointment? | „ |
~ Montresor's final words before turning into ashes |
“ | It was when the rain turned red and thick, and the air buzzed with something that wasn’t just fear. I remember—how could I ever forget?—seeing him through the shroud of bloodied clouds, towering, twisted, more than human but something far more holy. As I hid, clinging to the broken beams of a house that barely still stood, I could feel it: his purpose pulsing, spilling out in waves, more powerful and raw than anything I’d ever known. The Progeny of Evil, they all called him later, but I saw it even then. He was the darkness that we needed—the one who would pull humanity by the throat from our weaknesses and demand that we become stronger. The true savior of this world, not some soft, gilded vision of a hero but a deadly light to lead us forward. And, as I looked up at his burning silhouette, I knew we would need to fight monsters far worse than him someday. He understood that. He was our guardian angel with an open wound, an angel of the oblivion. | „ |

Summary[]
Montresor is an overarching antagonist and enigmatic historical figure in the Phanerian lore. The Tenth Transcendental, the height of Will and strongest sorcerer to ever walk over the surface of the planet, Montresor was a mere obstretician before ultimately becoming The Progeny of Evil.
Montresor was born accursed, able to see things that were not supposed to be seen, hearing voices that were not supposed to be heard. Like the veil had been lifted from his eyes, he lived knowing that there were things out there that couldn't be described with words, that went beyond understanding, and that should've stayed hidden. But most importantly, he knew that some of them had been looking back at him.
Dreadful nightmares. Beings that whisper and slither behind the dark, all-seeing eyes that always point in his direction. Creatures heading straight for the world with their attention trained on his location. Montresor wanted to give his life meaning by becoming the one to save his society. His own crusade against the forces of chaos, so that, perhaps, humanity could be prepared for a potential coming storm.
And what better way of preparing humanity against the unknown than creating the Unknown himself?
From experiments of the mind to war crimes performed without batting an eyelid, Montresor dedicated his entire career to the advancement of arcane knowledge. Studies of the mind through non-consenting human subjects, desecration of human corpses, and inhumane experiments on unborn specimens, all done to gather information that he planned to use for the sake of a "greater good."
A scholar of previous cases of the transcendence of Marked Ones and the magical aurora that would always accompany such an event, he believed that a connection could be forged if he attained, through his experiments, a way of self-transmuting in such a way as to lose all the characteristics that still made him human and be reborn as a thing not bound by the shackles of morality or common sense; a trigger to be activated on the verge of transcendence and test the limits of humanity. Becoming a "Progeny of Evil" - the seed that would mark the start of a new age for society, the initial test subject to lay the path for future generations to follow, and to ensure that mankind had a fighting chance when the time finally came to fight. A monster that would unify a fragmented world.
He managed to transcend. He managed to become something more; the strongest creature to ever walk on Phaneri. The process went according to plan, but not exactly the way he imagined it. For when you become so powerful that even the strongest sorcerers can do nothing to stop you, the idea of humanity being capable of facing you becomes an illusory, impossible fantasy.
It was his plan to die to humans in the end. To become an object lesson of the evils of hubris for all of civilization. A martyr, a hero, a necessary sacrifice. But alas, he did not consider the possibility of humans, even with magic, simply not being yet powerful enough to match someone like him, not even other Transcendentals reaching his height. Perhaps in the promised golden era of sorcerers, but certainly not at the current segmented stage of civilization.
Montresor was never defeated; he died for he willed himself to stop adapting to his massive power increase. He simply melted after three hours of existence as a Transcendental. His adversaries managed to reduce the twenty-four-hour counter to only three, but still, there was general devastation, thousands dead, and yet still so much to advance.
And seeing, in his final moments, how far away humanity truly was from having any hope for a victory over beings such as himself, Montresor was disappointed; and, he asked his creator why He sent him a sign only to disappoint him with the lack of results of his research.

- Will Manipulation (Raw Manipulation and Subjugation; Could sense a gun pointed at his direction despite never actually looking at the assassin's direction. Can clash against other experienced Subjugation users with his own ripples)
- Magic
- Subjective Reality
- Matter Manipulation, Deconstruction, and Paralysis Inducement (Via Dissect; Spell that manipulates the victim's body against their will, temporarily opening the targeted body part like an actual dissection and allowing the user to fiddle with their insides in any way they may seem fit, all while mantaining the victim alive and in suspended animation)
- Biological Manipulation, Transmutation, and Limited Necromancy (Via Abort; Spell that uses a deceased fetus as a medium to create a flesh abomination.)
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Cosmic Awareness (Montresor's curse allows him to sense cosmic events and notice the organisms of the Outer Ecosystem, being able to see cosmic creatures as red dots in the sky, as well as be somewhat connected to them through a supernatural link)
- Martial Arts (Montresor has been consistently shown to be able to fight hand-to-hand when unable to consistently use his spells or weapon, such as during times when Will overexertion is a possibility, as well as being able to use physical combat together with his supernatural abilities in order to properly touch an opponent and successfully activate his spell)
- Marksmanship (Primarily uses a revolver)
- Social Influencing (Was capable of manipulating powerful and wealthy individuals in order to gain funds for his experiments and research. Notably charismatic and influential, despite rarely fully appearing to people around him on most occasions)
- Acrobatics (Hypermobility & Self-Momentum; usage of difficult maneuvers to aid his objective of touching his opponent to subsequently utilize his primary spell)
- Stealth Mastery
Resistance to:
- Mind Manipulation, Memory Manipulation, Madness Manipulation, and Empathic Manipulation (Will is the power of thought, which influences all aspects of a sentient being. As such, it's capable of shielding the user's mind from harmful spells, effects, or curses that affect the psyche in some way, even if temporarily)
- Information Manipulation, Fate Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation, & Law Manipulation (Grandmasters are said to attain such mastery of Will that they become somewhat independent from the laws of destiny, being capable of blocking their narratives from most kinds of foreign laws and concepts, aside from pacts, and resist the influence of events that have been already set in stone)
- Fear Manipulation, Perception Manipulation, Illusion Manipulation, and Death Manipulation (Resitant to the effect of other sorcerers' Subjugation to some extent. Can clash in a Subjugation battle with other experienced users)
- Matter Manipulation, Biological Manipulation, Deconstruction, Paralysis Inducement, Telekinesis, and Transmutation (Grandmasters are capable of resisting the effects of their own spells to some extent)
- Will Manipulation (Same as before to a much greater extent, plus Transcendental Physiology; The Progeny of Evil's willpower was so strong that it slightly bent reality around him. His willpower should be greater than every other sorcerer within the Verse. Lino feared that The Progeny of Evil could soon possibly learn how to utilize Visualization if he were to continue evolving. Could notice Beathan's incoming torrent of birds, dodge a sealing attempt without even needing to perceive the caster, as well as sense Lino's murderous intent coming from thousands of miles upward. The Progeny of Evil is the most powerful Subjugation user in Phaneri when it comes to raw power. Caused thousands of birds to instantly fall dead upon staying inside his area of effect for a fraction of a second. Made Beathan bleed from every pore of his body. His attacks were capable of seriously hurting Lino, a Transcendental bound to the concept of Loneliness, who was incapable of healing his injuries for a period of five hours after the attack)
- Large Size (Type 1; 15 meters tall)
- Vibration Manipulation & Power Nullification (The Progeny of Evil's Ripples of Subjugation were different from all other users of the technique in the sense that they caused shockwaves strong enough to disperse a storm and cause internal damage to a Will Grandmaster upon usage. The vibrations generated by the Progeny's Ripples of Subjugation can disrupt active techniques that may be in usage at the moment of activation)
- Improved Instinctive Action (Activated Subjugation at zero time for a fraction of a second as a subconscious reaction after being overwhelmend by Beathan's Danmaku. It is guaranteed that the Progeny's unstable Will will force him to automatically use Subjugation in zero time in response to a lethal threat. Dodged a sealing attempt without even needing to perceive the caster)
- Absorption (His Womb Tail is capable of absorbing other entities in order for The Progeny of Evil to reutilize their flesh in any way he sees fit)
- Flight (True Flight; The Progeny of Evil mainly floats above the ground, and has been shown to be able to fly freely without the help of an external agent)
- Biological Manipulation, Poison Manipulation, minor Light Manipulation, and minor Reality Warping (The concentrations of Will Particles around him were so strong that they began to bend incoming light, forming a glowing aura, as well as create minor distortions in space. Such concentrations are highly toxic and could cause people in close proximity to The Progeny of Evil to suffer from intense migraines, nausea, strokes, and even liquefaction of the cerebral tissue)
- Body Control, Bone Manipulation, and Weapon Creation (The Progeny of Evil is capable of manipulating his own flesh and bones in a variety of ways, such as creating weapons out of his tissues, or reshaping his tail to any format he may desire)
- Weather Manipulation and Limited Blood Manipulation (Could evoke a storm by using his massive Will storage to generate "Will Clouds" around his general area, using absorbed blood to create a red rainfall with toxic overdosing properties, akin to a magical nuclear fallout)
- Telekinesis (Capable of moving and controlling dissected individuals with gestures)
- Biological Manipulation, Transmutation, and Limited Necromancy (Via Abort; Spell that uses a deceased fetus as a medium to create a flesh abomination. By absorbing flesh, The Progeny of Evil is capable of transmuting the material into monsters by using himself as the progenitor)
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Genius Intelligence
- Cosmic Awareness (Same as before but to a greater extent. It is implied that The Progeny of Evil, now having become part of the Outer Ecosystem to a certain extent, was capable of communicating with the other Outer Creatures parasitizing Phaneri)
- Martial Arts (Should have retained his knowledge on self-defense)
- Social Influencing (Should have retained his social and manipulative skills)
- Acrobatics and Stealth Mastery (Hypermobility & Self-Momentum; Should have retained his bodily skills and agility. Notably flexible for a being of his size. Can change his shape to perform supernatural acrobatic feats. Can dodge attacks mid-air)
- Weapon Mastery (Capable of creating weapons from his flesh, and quickly learned how to use them to a professional level)
Resistance to:
- Mind Manipulation, Memory Manipulation, Madness Manipulation, Empathic Manipulation, and Soul Manipulation (Transcendentals are immune to any form of Mental Hazards, Madness Manipulation or attacks against their soul unless the caster is also a Transcendental or being of similar power. Otherwise, such attempt is ineffective.)
- Information Manipulation, Fate Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation, & Law Manipulation (Transcendentals cannot be affected by any predetermined future/fate that doesn't come from themselves, as well as having improved capabilities to that of Grandmasters when it comes to Narrativistic Protection)
- Biological Manipulation (The Progeny of Evil has nearly full control over his body, thus being able to mitigate attacks that directly affect his biology in any way)
- Partial Power Nullification (the Raw Will techniques [Subjugation, Visualization, Pact Creation, and Raw Applications] of Grandmasters and those above them are unaffected by the effects of any kind of Anti-Spell or similar abilities, as well as being capable of using those techniques in places they should not be able to, the sole exception being a true vacuum due to the lack of breathable Will Particles. The Progeny of Evil, being capable of generating his very own Will Particles, should be mostly immune to power nullification when it comes to those four specific techniques)
- Fear Manipulation, Perception Manipulation, Illusion Manipulation, and Death Manipulation (Unnafected by the lethal effects of other powerful sorcerers' Subjugation)
- Poison Manipulation (Immune to the lethal amounts of Will Particles generated by his body)
- Matter Manipulation, Deconstruction, Paralysis Inducement, Telekinesis, and Transmutation (Grandmasters are capable of resisting the effects of their own spells to some extent)
Speed: Hypersonic+ (As a Will Grandmaster, he should be comparable to other high-tier Will Users. His bullets are able to tag experienced sorcerers), Infinite Attack Speed with the Ripples of Subjugation (The ripples generated through Subjugation are unbound by natural speed, moving even through stopped time) | Sub-Relativistic+ (Way faster than the most notorious sorcerers of his era. Not even when using Visualization, Will Users could consistently tag him. Was able to dodge the dome of bird projectiles sent by Beathan for a while before being overwhelmed by its numbers. Traveled from ground level to Lino at an altitude of 36,000 km in a matter of ten seconds [Mach 10495.63]. As the peak of sorcery, he should be unfathomably superior to even his fellow Transcendentals. Should be capable of traversing to the edge of the Algarian System in a period of just 1.45 month [Mach 71388.60]), Infinite Attack and Reaction Speed with the Ripples of Subjugation and Nematocyst Effect (as a defense mechanism, Instinctive Action will cause the Subjugation of the Progeny of Evil to activate on its own in zero time to protect its user the moment a lethal danger reveals itself)
Lifting Strength: Class K (Should be comparable to other high-tier Will Users. One of his creations could rip off the spine of a man) | Class P (Should be stronger than Evan and any other sorcerer. Was quickly swinging around a massive Golem with no apparent effort. As the peak of sorcery, he should be unfathomably superior to even his fellow Transcendentals)
Striking Strength: Small Town level | Large Island Level (Crushed the strongest non-transcendental sorcerer of his time with his bare hand like a mere fly. Could pierce a massive War Golem’s reinforced body with seemingly no effort)
Durability: Small Town Level (Should be comparable to his AP) | Large Island Level (Comparable to his AP. Unaffected by most attacks sent at him. A torrent of thousands of bird projectiles sent by Beathan only caused minor lacerations to his flesh. As the peak of sorcery, he should be unfathomably superior to even his fellow Transcendentals)
Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to other high-tier Will Users. Barely affected by deep lacerations covering his body and could keep operating for a whole night after receiving those injuries before needing to rest) | Infinite (Superior to the other Transcendentals. His reserves of Will were so great that it was effectively impossible for him to spend it all, considering the particles surrounding him were so concentrated that they even distorted the coming light. Effectively became self-sufficient when producing his own Will Particles)
Range: Standard Meelee Range physically, Several Meters for Subjugation, Tens of Meters with Revolver, Kilometers for Abort (Flesh abominations can continue operating even when Montresor is kilometers away from their current location, and will only cease working once the distance exceeds the 10 km mark) | Tens of Meters physically, Tens of Kilometers with Dissect, Subjugation, and Flesh Weaponry (His Dissect was capable of fragmenting entire mountain ranges upon usage. His Ripples of Subjugation could dispel a massive storm, and should be superior to even the likes of Noah and Aribeth. His flesh gun can reach that far), Planetary for Abort (His flesh abominations could most likely continue operating anywhere in Phaneri, regardless of distance from The Progeny of Evil, except if the Transcendental somehow fully exited the planet's confines)
Standard Equipment: Single Action Revolver | None Notable.
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius (Before becoming The Progeny of Evil, Montresor was a superb arcanist and notable obstetrician in the Land of Riyis. Montresor had devoted his life to studying the Transcendentals and developing a way to cause his own Transcendence, something he ultimately succeeded in doing; a feat never before seen in human history and considered impossible even to Grandmasters of the Will. Had an innate knowledge of the workings of the body, and was capable of creating new code languages for his works. Was developing a now unfinished book about the steps of becoming a Transcendental before actually turning into one. Was the only known person to know about the truth of the cosmic ecosystem, and could see things that no other phanerian could beyond the veil. Was able to manipulate powerful people to gain funds for his works and experiments)
Standard Tactics:
Montresor/Progeny's Tactics | |
|
Weaknesses: To maintain Dissect active, Montresor needs total concentration. loss of concentration as a result of the influence of a third party will make the target's body instantly close. His flesh abominations can and will attack him when in close proximity | Same as before minus the later one. The Progeny's Nematocyst Effect will not activate in response to sealings or attempts to incapacitate him, only activating to neutralize attacks or organisms that threaten the existence of its user in some way. In character, The Progeny of Evil refuses to (but may still accidentally) kill strong, worthy, or promising phanerian opponents (however, it is important to note that, that likely is a verse-exclusive weakness)
- Body Dissection Spell: Dissect: Can, Objective-type Spell. Allows for a Spell to be cast with the word "dissect." By touching the body of an individual and activating the spell, the Marked One is able to split open their victim's touched area from top to bottom without any kind of protection or tool, exposing the inner organs of their body to the world in a forceful and swift action, akin to an invisible saw opening up the person as if they were made of paper. The affected individual, however, remains alive and does not even notice the spell as it is performed on them. Once the spell is active, the Marked One has to maintain total concentration on their "procedure" or the spell will cancel itself; if concentration is lost, the body of the affected individual will close itself back up again in the exact same way it opened, regardless of any change that happened in the meantime. Dissect is based on willpower, and a target with larger amounts of will than the caster will be able to resist the spell more easily. Montresor's Vocal Wear: Significant. Cooldown: 2 minutes.
- Progeny Ending Spell: Abort: Can, Subjective-type Spell. Allows for a Spell to be cast with the word "abort." Works in two separate ways. By touching the stomach of a pregnant woman, the Marked One can put a stop to the gestation process and cause the child to exit the mother's body as an incomplete fetus. If the intentions of the Marked One are pure, no pain is experienced by the pregnant woman as she gives birth, and the deceased fetus will crumble to dust on its own. However, if the Marked One has ulterior motives and is motivated by evil desires, said fetus will exit the body and revive, beginning to transform into a monstrous stillborn creature over the next few minutes. After the transformation is complete, the creature will awaken in agony and attack everyone in sight, akin to a living flesh bomb. The monster will remain alive for 24 hours after being created before its life comes to an agonizing end. Montresor seems to be able to manipulate the Weak-Willed brains of his subjects in his own accord, an ability seemingly developed through his multiple attempts to perfect his transmutation to create a monster devoid of any sentimentality whatsoever. Montresor's Vocal Wear: Significant. Cooldown: 1 hour.
- Subjugation: Subjugation, an act that may be as costly as it is rewarding if successfully carried out. To utilize Subjugation, one must have a trauma or strong negative thought of sorts that they can use to focus on. By visualizing that moment or sentiment vividly and imagining it to be some kind of aura or malignant presence to be extracted from them, one can eject it from their body, creating invisible ripples of concentrated Will. Once the ripples are emitted, any entity in close range to the user that happens to have a lower mental resistance than them gets hit, goosebumps rising on their skin and a sudden shiver running down their spine as if a cold wind had blown by. The Ripples of Subjugation will cause sudden feelings of uneasiness, fear, and anxiety to take over the targeted individual, often being strong enough to completely break the psyche of weaker-minded people and those who are emotionally compromised. Most individuals under the effect of the Subjugation cannot think clearly and are usually struck by an almost primal fear. The reasoning behind such fear varies, as the ripples are not directed at anything in particular; it is simply a feeling of dread that emanates from the user and that the victim has to deal with. Some have felt as if they were in front of a monster ready to devour them or facing their greatest fears, while others have experienced a terrible nightmare in broad daylight. The Subjugation effect is only temporary, but top-tier users are capable of overwhelming the mind of their foes to the point that even their personalities change permanently. Losing oneself to one's own traumas and sentiments could lead to the user experiencing the same panic as those who are subjected to it.
- Womb Protrusion: A long womb-like structure that extends from The Progeny of Evil's back down to the ground, far past his body, acting as an additional appendage or instrument for the Transcendental's unique usage. The Womb Protrusion is capable of quickly absorbing weaker entities, turning them into "nutrition" and separating their flesh in order for The Progeny of Evil to use as he may see fit. Additionally, it is also capable of being used as a tail, tentacle, or third arm for the Transcendental.
- Self-Will Production: The Will's reserves of the Progeny of Evil were so large and concentrated that they even distorted the incoming light, generating a noticeable glowing aura around his body. This was because he had become a self-sufficient being, generating his own particles in exorbitant quantities and promoting limitless quantities of the thought energy for his own usage. So dense was his production of Will Particles that, akin to radiation poisoning, prolonged proximity to him could cause people to suffer from intense migraines, nausea, strokes, and even liquefaction of the cerebral tissue.
- Red Rainfall: By taking advantage of his massive amounts of stored Will Particles, The Progeny of Evil is capable of generating dark-yellow "Will Clouds" around his general area, using blood absorbed through his Womb Protrusion to fuel a blood rain infused with lethal amounts of Will Particles in each single individual drop, covering a kilometers-wide area in a toxic storm.
- Flesh and Bones Manipulation: The Progeny of Evil is capable of freely manipulating his own flesh and bones in any way he may see fit, such as creating new members, projecting them outside of his body, or creating weapons from his tissues.
- The Sword: A giant sword created from The Progeny of Evil's flesh and bones. It has a serrated blade, proper to cause brutal damage and generate blood loss.
- The Gun: A giant revolver created from The Progeny of Evil's flesh and bones. It utilizes Flesh Abominations as ammunition, launching them at the target at massive speeds.
- Transcendental Ability - Body Dissection Spell: Dissect: Can, Objective-type Spell. Dissect, in its Transcendental status, also allows for the dissection of non-organic objects. Montresor, being fused with his spells, can also dissect targets by simply pointing at them, as well as telekinetically controlling and messing with the target's insides with gestures. Montresor's Vocal Wear: Null. Cooldown: Null.
- Transcendental Ability - Progeny Ending Spell: Abort: Can, Subjective-type Spell. Abort, in its Transcendental status, also allows for the immediate transformation of a fetus into a monster, as well as the creation of bigger, stronger creatures. Montresor, being fused with his spells, can also create his own waves of stillborn monsters, each of them carrying the passive Will toxicity of their progenitor to a lesser extent, from the openings of his iron dress by absorbing flesh through his womb protrusion. Montresor's Vocal Wear: Null. Cooldown: Null.
The peak of Subjugation, Aribeth, the Desperation could make experienced Will Adepts have heart attacks and strokes by merely looking at her in the eyes, as well as choosing to not affect certain people with her ripples, and The Progeny of Evil should be superior to her when it comes to raw output, being able to change the weather with its ripples, make weaker-willed people bleed from every pore of their body, and nullify activated offensive effects that may threaten his life in any way. Subjugation may turn back against the user if done carelessly and not by those experienced enough in it. Losing oneself to one's own traumas and sentiments could lead to the user experiencing the same panic as those who are subjected to it.
