The M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle, often known as the M2010 ESR, which was previously known as the M24 Reconfigured Sniper Weapon System is an American sniper rifle developed for the United States Armed Forces, and was primarily designed to give snipers a longer range in the mountainous and desert terrain of the War in Afghanistan. The weapon fires the .300 Winchester Magnum, which offered a greater effective range than the 7.62x51mm NATO round as well. In 2015, the rifle was doled out for civilian use, along with various rifles made by the Remington Arms company, which became defunct in 2020.
History[]
In 2010, the US Army provided a contract to the Remington Arms company to revamp the M24 rifles, and by January, 250 rifles had been ordered to receive upgrades. Snipers in the field learned how to use and maintain the new rifle during a 3-day course, results being that snipers had no problems hitting targets up to 1,000 meters from "ridgetop to ridgetop", with satisfactory results.
The US Army is making considerations to replace this specific rifle with the Barrett MRAD in 2021 as well.
