NewKryn1
The struggle is not yet over, not anytime soon at all! For I, Kryn, will not let the efforts of my father, grandfather, and untold number of Viravans fade into nothingness. The will of Viravans will continue to shine, and the flame of rebellion will continue to burn. Shiny will and burning rebellion will fuel us, allowing me to stand strong, us to stand strong, and protect my homeland – our homeland – from those Astravan invaders trying to take it.
~ Kryn, upon becoming the High Chief

NewKryn2
This is where we are at, now? You have the nerve to challenge my leadership, and my decisions, and question me? I shall let you know, I always expected this would happen one day. But let me tell you first, without lie or deceit, that for five decades every single action I took was for the sake of this land and its people, for the sake of you, protecting you from Astravars. You are children, you don't know right from wrong, and you are naive. Hence why I have been the unquestionable authority, as the symbol of ultimate defense! Tell me, my disgruntled subjects, do you really, truly believe you could be standing here, experiencing what limited peace and enjoyment we have if it wasn't for me and my guidance? Not at all, no. You do not say it, but I know; for you, it has gotten to a point where it is easier to picture Astravars taking the land where you think you would retain the independence of our people. You are that naive. I will tell you again, do not raise, do not make any sound, do not question my guidance. When I'm gone and they eventually take this land, you are too naive to see what they will bring with it.
~ Kryn responding to rising complaints to his rule

Summary[]

Ricav vyn Taryal, full name Kryn-ge-Raned Ricav vyn Taryal, better known and generally referred to as Kryn, is a character from Crestseal. He is a Viravan, the third and final High Chief of the Virava Confederation, who successfully led a resistance against Astravars that lasted for over 50 years.

Biography

Ricav was born in the year 405 in the city of Virava, one of the main settlements of the Virava people and their cultural center. He was the son of Taryal vyn Kevk and his wife Lavk vyna Tekvam. His early life was tumultuous as Virava was being increasingly threatened by neighboring forces of Astravars from 410 onwards. Ricav, alongside several other family members, his father, and grandfather Kevk vyn Arhks, joined local Virava forces to combat the Astravars. However, in the year 419, Virava was captured by Astrava forces, forcing his family to flee southwards along with other resistance families.

Virava was a northern frontier city in the Virava peninsula, once the heartland of Virava culture, fell under Astravar rule and became a symbol of oppression in their eyes. Ricav's father, Taryal vyn Kevk, and his grandfather, Kevk vyn Arhks, were undeterred by the invaders and secretly united southern Virava tribes to expel the Astravars. In 447, Kevk was elected as the Head of Southern tribes and intensified his efforts at reconquering Virava. During a particular moment of weakness on Astrava's part when it comes to their local troops, Kevk laid siege on Virava and captured it in 451 after two months of siege. Their efforts culminated in the formation of the Virava Confederation against the Astravar threat, whose presence was weak in the region.

Kevk vyn Arhks was elected as the Confederation's leader, taking the title of High Chief in the same year, 451. He led the Virava Confederation from the capital city of Virava, fortified defenses, and defeated several Astrava incursions. He died in 467 at the age of 105, leaving his son Taryal to continue the fight. The tenure of Taryal witnessed both victories and challenges, including a resurgence of Astravar aggression in the form of a larger-than-usual attack that was repelled by 482. Taryal himself fell in battle, dying at the age of 100 and leaving his son, Ricav to take up the mantle of High Chief.

From a young age, Ricav had been groomed as a powerful Virvan soldier, something crucial to the Virava people's independence given the situation they were in. With capability beyond his years, and an unspecified characteristic allowing him to make it difficult for others to recover from his attacks, he was determined to successfully defend the Confederation. He was exceptionally capable and the most capable by the time he succeeded his father as the new High Chief. The Confederation was not hereditary, it was elective, power and military prowess were deciding factors, and Ricav proved himself and was elected with no opposition in 482 after his father's demise. Ricav reorganized the military, personally involved with the training of new troops and raising of further Viravan soldiers. In the first few years of his reign, he defeated two Astravar attacks in 483 and 486. His decisive victories against two Astravar armies in a span of just a few years caused people to refer to him as Kryn-Ge-Raned, meaning "Shadow of ge-Raned" ge-Raned means "Stormfather" in the Viravan God of War, Authority, and Leadership, as well as Ricav's own personal patron deity. From this point onwards he was primarily referred to by title, or as Kryn

However, each victory came at a cost. As the threat from Astravars persisted, Kryn's rule became increasingly strict and he became more and more paranoid in his desperation to protect his people. He gradually centralized power within the confederation, transforming it from an alliance of equals into a monarchy under his absolute control. Many Virava tribes reluctantly accepted this as the price of safety, but as the years passed, dissatisfaction grew.

Starting from around the late 490s, when Kryn was at his peak of power and control, a growing Faction requested him to restore the Confederation and share power by establishing a Council. Kryn refused, saying it would be a devolution, claiming he was the only reason Virava was standing so there was no reason he would share power with anyone. As time went on, Kryn would actively suppress these factions, sending their members to difficult missions to have them fail to prove his point and ridicule them when they did. He surrounded himself with loyalists, rewarding them properly, and tore them apart at the first sign of disobedience.

Kryn's distrust of other factions within Virava motivated him to form an entirely new military force only loyal to himself. Firstly, he needed to make sure this force would be significantly more powerful than any of his possible opponents. He started orphans that showed potential and recruited them, training them personally using Fireself. Eventually, he built what he named the Taryal Legion, a military force only loyal to Kryn himself and considered him to be their father. Taryal Legion at its peak reached 1000 members, and despite this being a small number, they were the most capable and powerful in Virava. Kryn was able to build this in less than seven years and tasked them to both guard himself, and his allies, and spy around to discover any plot against his rule.

Aside from Taryal Legion and loyalist factions, there were compliance factions who had problems with the way Kryn ruled but still considered him to be the best option for the future of the Viravans and their freedom. Of course, their main concern was the power they wield, A possible Astravar conquest would mean the end of the local Virava elite who had sway over common Viravans.

The opposition remained quiet but they eventually ran out of patience and opted to find a way to get rid of Kryn but could not challenge him in the form of a civil war. By 520, the once-unified tribes more and more began to question the oppressive monarchy they had become. The sacrifices made to resist the Astravars were now contrasted with the oppressive rule they faced from their own High Chief. The belief that Astravars could not be worse than the current regime started to take root, as at least they would not be in constant war along with strict despotic rule. These questions increased in year 527 onwards...

Enter Thrasel Shravrek, the newly appointed leader of the Astravar troops appointed in the year 527. Her contrasting approach—generosity and fairness—drew many disillusioned Virava tribes to her side. Between 528 and 531, more than half of the tribes that made up the Confederation defected to the Astravars, which eventually led to the 532 Siege of Virava, where Kryn challenged Thrasel to a duel as a final act of defiance.

The duel commenced and Kryn was considerably superior in terms of raw power and was also more capable. He could shrug off Thrasel's best attacks easily and tear her apart with his casual attacks, a situation that did not change even when Thrasel transformed into her Silver Veil form. The power difference was immense, and Thrasel's only Method that could work against Chillmantle required her to physically touch Kryn, which was difficult as Kryn was able to shoot her from a distance and kill her over and over. Ultimately, this did not matter, as Thrasel was a Sentinel. Kryn did not know this beforehand, once he learned he did not understand why a Sentinel would be tasked against his Confederation. Despite having no option of victory against a Sentinel, he kept his composure for a long time but eventually lashed out at Thrasel, delivering all his attacks at once. Even though Kryn was more capable in terms of combat and superior to Thrasel in most regards, he had no means of killing her as Thrasel would be healed and revived by her Spur. Despite her inferiority, and having no opportunity to use Chillmantle, this battle was not even significant for Thrasel as Kryn had no way of permanently defeating a Sentinel and sooner or later she would win. As the duel entered its third day, Kryn suddenly launched several of his Expansive attacks on surrounding peoples, his people, Viravans. Thrasel attempted to shield against the attacks but failed as her body was destroyed each time and restored by her Spur, and Kryn eventually died after being hit repeatedly by his Expansive attacks. He knew he was going to be defeated eventually, and wished to punish his people as his final act.

In his final moments, Kryn saw the irony—they ultimately rejected the leader who had fought Astravars and sought to protect his people. He understood that the path he had chosen, though driven by noble intentions, had led to unintended consequences. He was rebellious to his final moments, regretting his actions, not about his despotism but even spending his time protecting his people, whom he deemed ungrateful to his very last breath, as he was undone by them.

His attacks decimated large parts of the city, killing many Viravans and destroying multiple Virva Shields before it was eventually stopped.

Personality[]

Kryn is an ambitious and self-righteous man. He believes his actions are completely justified, and ridicules others for disagreeing. He is very blunt in his delivery of words and can be very unpleasant if annoyed, condescendingly belittling those he finds to be disloyal and annoying. He is very proud of his Viravan roots as well as other Viravan people, as the High Chief of Virava, he fiercely defended Virava against Astravars for over 50 years. As he lived, he became more and more strict. He heard the complaints of his people but would ignore them or respond in ways that were not helpful because he did not think of them as a major problem. When a large Virvaran faction wished to establish a Council and requested Kryn to share his powers, he was outraged inside and mocked the faction for even daring such a thing, for he was the strongest Viravan and the reason Astravars had yet to conquer the region. Despite his attitude, he genuinely cared about his people for a long time. When many Viravans switched to Thrasel's side against him, he attacked them as his final act. In his dying moment, Kyn believed in his righteousness, he saw his people as ungrateful and regretted even having spent so much of his life defending them.

Attack Potency: At least City level (Kryn is the most powerful Viravan of his time, he has the Rank of Rank 5++, making him more powerful than Rank 5), higher with Piercing Flood (While his other Methods have power relative to his physical strength, Piercing Flood, in particular, can pierce through and harm those who can block said other Methods). At least Country level with Expansive: Grand Fire Cataclysm (Expansive: Grand Fire Cataclysm is Kryn's ultimate attack that consumes a large amount of Phanon to turn it into far stronger destruction. Decimated large parts of the city of Virava and obliterated several of the Virvaa Shields that can stop Rank 3+ attacks before it was finally stopped, making it more powerful than a Rank 3 attack)

Speed: At least Subsonic movement speed with at least Relativistic combat speed and reactions (Should be comparable or superior to Thrasel). Relativistic+ attack speed with Piercing Flood (Piercing Flood possesses speed greater than all of Kryn's other attacks, being able to move this fast during the initial launch)

Lifting Strength: At least Pre-Stellar, likely far higher (Should be comparable or superior to Thrasel)

Striking Strength: At least City level (Kryn is the most powerful Viravan of his time, he has the Rank of Rank 5++, making him more powerful than Rank 5)

Durability: At least City level. (Kryn can withstand attacks from other Rank 5 Viravans, though they are significantly weaker than him. He can withstand the force of his own attacks). At least Small Country level with the Mantle of Fire (Mantle of Fire can protect Kryn from attacks that would otherwise maim him. It was able to withstand several of his own Expansive attacks before breaking and killing him)

Stamina: Superhuman. Kryn is an exceptionally capable and efficient, much lower soldiers fought in hundreds of wars that lasted days to weeks with little to no sustenance many times in dozens of battles and can survive and remain conscious after suffering severe injuries such as being bisected, decapitated, and cut apart to dozens of pieces

Range: Standard Melee Range. Extended Melee Range with his Sword. Tens of meters to Hundreds of meters with regular Firemancer and Watermancer (Firemancer and Watermancer regular attacks have an effective range of around 300 meters, 600 meters if conducted via his Sword), higher for specialized Methods (Fulminant Fire and Seeking Magma can be launched up to 700 meters. Spikeshot is effective up to 900 meters in radius around Kryn), Kilometers with Flood (Can manifest a pool that is several kilometers in radius), Several Kilometers with Field Formation: Carrion Cathedral (Carrion Cathedral, when cast as a United Field, manifests upon the reality and can simultaneously affect an area 2 kilometers in radius), Tens of Kilometers with Expansive: Grand Fire Cataclysm (Covered large parts of the city of Virava, a major Viravan settlement spanning over fifty kilometers in radius)

Standard Equipment:

  • Sword: A regular Sword of Viravan design
    • Firemance Conducting: While the Sword is not special, Kryn can use it to conduct his Firemancer projectiles, increasing their range when he shoots them through the Sword.

Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius. Kryn fought against Astravars for over a century and led a revolt against them for over 50 years. Capable of defeating Aspirantmond-ranked adversaries even when outnumbered. He is the top-ranked figure in Virava and by far the strongest and most capable Viravan of his time since his youth. He participated in many wars and skirmishes, particularly against soldiers from Astrava. Even a his youth, he was able to best Aspirantvers, and at his peak he consistently defeated Aspirantmonds, shooting them down at his first attempt, even when outnumbered, while the lowest ranking Aspirantzes are this capable. He established the Taryal Legion, a legion of highly capable Viravans, as his guard. Soldiers of the Taryal Legion were able to outperform Aspirantze and Aspirantvers consistently, and he trained them from orphaned children with no experience in war whatsoever to this level of capability in just seven years of training.

Standard Tactics:

Kryn is likely to start with casual Firemancer projectiles while manifesting several Magmaself clones to assist him and Magma Ballons to serve as a distraction. He will surely attempt to halt the movements of his target with Spikeshot at the same time.

If the opponent is capable enough to get around those, his go-to move is to create a pool with Flood, and utilize the Piercing Flood due to its generally overwhelming speed, while also using the former. He is to use Caustic Vapor and utilize Caustic Flood to shoot a Caustic Flood afterward if the target takes minimal damage from his other attacks and proves hard to defeat them. He is quick to utilize a Caustic Scatter Scale if the opponent is capable of evading a Piercing Flood

Right after this, he will just cast his Field Formation: Carrion Cathedral, which is his most effective Method, to get rid of the opponent. He always defaults to a United Field unless he thinks there is a reason for him to use a Repulsed Field.

Kryn is generally a ranged combatant. His style revolves around throwing many of his ranged attacks and affecting the environment with Flood by manifesting a large pool. He is not comfortable with close-range combat and always backs off, though may not back off as much if he thinks the opponent is not a dangerous one.

Weaknesses: Kryn generally commanded troops in wars from a distance, thus lacks experience and skill in close-range combat, relying primarily on ranged attacks

Notable Attacks/Techniques

  • Medic: Kryn knows basic Medic. He can heal himself and others. He can heal broken bones, regrow limbs, and heal other internal damage that can hinder him from moving
  • Proficiency: Kryn is highly proficient and a master of several Proficiency Paths on the same level as several Aspirantmonds
    • Adept Sword User: Kryn is adept at wielding his sword, though its primary use is to conduct Firemance
    • Sensethruster: Sensethrusters have exceptionally heightened senses. They can perceive their surroundings down to an atomic scale, and usually in a radius around them. They can perceive sounds and sights from kilometers away. They can see, interact with, and harm unphysical phenomena such as smoke, shadows, and beings of Contour as if they are solid or physical
    • Mentalweaver: Mentalweavers can effectively control their bodies like puppets guided by their mind rather than conventional movement. For these individuals, the thought of moving is the same as moving itself, and there is no delay between the mind and the body. This allows them to perform hundreds of rapid jumps and flips both in-ground and in the air, move through any terrain and glide in the air with maximum efficiency, move in a way that is not affected by air friction to perform instant full-speed movement without acceleration, and move in a way that makes no sound. They can also innately react to any incoming attack by dodging and launching a counterattack, even when no longer alive or conscious
    • Precogazer: Precogazers have exceptional clarity and understanding of their surroundings, they can not only gain clear insight into the physical movements as well as incoming attacks that do not require physical movement on the fly but can also predict the possible intent of their targets before they even have that intent simply by looking at their present state once
    • Fullreader: Fullreaders can accurately glean information about individuals or objects, decipher their capabilities, combat methods, and their present intent with seemingly as little effort as a mere gaze, and prepare to counter what they were able to glean to the best of their abilities
  • Firemancer: Kryn is a master Firemancer. This allows him to Firemance; manifest and control fire in various ways. Common innate Firemance Methods include capabilities such as generating fire in the palms and throwing them as projectiles and generating fire to increase the heat of the body or specific target. There are also more complex Firemance Methods that have unique names and Firemancers can develop their own Methods.
    • Fulminant Fire: Kryn can generate fire that can explode on command, forming an explosion with around a 3-meter blast radius. This is most commonly combined with other methods of Firemance
      • Expansive: Grand Fire Cataclysm: Kryn's Expansive, ultimate and most destructive Method, based on Fulminant Fire. Kryn spends massive amounts of Phanon, gathering them all around his body, and fires them in a style of a massive, continuous explosion that can span kilometers. Because Kryn has to use this on himself, he can only use it while also using Mantle of Fire to protect himself from it.
    • Broiling Immolation Fire: Kryn manifests extremely dense fire on his hand and incinerates any target he touches with it by spreading the fire all over the target upon contact. This is Kryn's most powerful Firemance Method in terms of sheer heat, burning many to crisp with a single touch, with them being capable of withstanding the temperature that exceeds that of the core of a neutron star. This Method has a drawback in the form of being physically taxing, both in terms of Phanon it uses to produce the Phanon necessarily to generate it and also causes a weakening/slowdown effect on Kryn upon its utilization
    • Mantle of Fire: Kryn can use Firemance to form a kind of barrier that protects him and his allies from harm. Mantle of Fire can both be a large barrier defending a larger area, or a much smaller barrier defending only him. This barrier is durable enough to completely block Kryn's Expansive: Grand Fire Cataclysm multiple times.
  • Magmancer: Kryn is a master Magmancer, allowing him to Magmance in various ways. Magmance is a specialized sub-mance achieved by combining Firemance with Earthmance. Although the magma generated by him is usually red or yellow, their heat far surpasses the implication of their appearance as a master Magmancer like Kryn should be able to manifest magma hotter than the heat of naturally occurring lightning.
    • Magmaself: Kryn generates large amounts of magma and concentrates them into a shape similar to his own, manifesting clones of himself that can operate on their own. He can manifest up to five clones, they are significantly weaker than himself. The clones can operate on their own and use most Methods Kryn can use, but they are less capable and will vanish once the fire used to generate them runs out as they act, turning into stone
    • Seeking Magma: Kryn generates spear-like projectiles made out of magma that can home into the target by shooting them from his index fingers
    • Magma Balloon: Kryn generates levitating large circular structures made out of magma around himself by clapping his hands. These can be used to block incoming attacks or assist him via coordinated attacks
    • Magma Scatter Scale: Kryn manifests tens of thousands of small drops of lava around himself and fires them to all directions or a specific direction, covering a large area with so many projectiles launched at once.
      • Pellet Balloon: Kryn generates much smaller circular structures from a distance. Each is smaller than a pellet ball. This is most commonly used by combining with Fulminant Fire and exploding them from a distance, as Kryn can manifest them from up to 60 meters away.
  • Watermancer: Kryn is a master Watermancer. This allows him to Watermance; manifest and control water in various ways
    • Spikeshot: Kryn generates water in his feet, sends them to the ground, and then manifests them in the form of rapid spikes underneath his target
    • Flood: Kryn generates huge amounts of water to manifest a large pool in the area.
    • Piercing Flood: Kryn makes his hands into fists, combines his knuckles, and makes his thumbs touch to generate highly pressured water in the space between his thumbs and fists. This water is pressured and fired as a sharp, thin projectile of continuous, concentrated stream from that area, akin to a laser. The extreme pressure grants this attack immense speed and power exceeding most other Methods at his disposal with its initial launch.
  • Caustic Current: Kryn's Inborn Method allows him to produce transparent, water-like liquid from his body. This liquid is excessively corrosive, corroding away anything it comes into contact with. While by itself it is limited, Kryn can amplify it by incorporating it with his other Methods to form new Methods
    • Caustic Vapor: This Method is made when Kryn generates water, heats it up with fire, and combined caustic propeties with it, creating a vapor that cover the surrounding area. Its corrosion effect is slower but can target everything around him at once
    • Caustic Flood: Derived from Piercing Flood, Kryn manifests the former the same way he usually does, but inserts a large amount of corrosive liquid into it, making it excessively corrosive. This attack is capable of corroding what it attempts to pierce with a more potency than regular application of the liquid, with its downside being its lack of speed and power of the regular Piercing Flood.
    • Caustic Scatter Scale: Derived from Magma Scatter Scale, Kryn manifests tens of thousands of small drops of water mixed with caustic liquid, enabling him to target a large area and attack suddeny.
  • Earthmancer: Kryn has access to Earthmance, evidenced by him having extensive capability in the utilization of Magmance, though he has not shown any stand-alone Earthmance Methods
  • Field Formation: Carrion Cathedral: The name of Kryn's Field and is imbued with his Inborn Method, Caustic Current. The field manifests a large, rusted cathedral that is around 700 meters in height and 200 meters in width that gradually tapers it extends to the sky. Upon manifestation, Kryn stands on top of it. There, Kryn is capable of launching Field imbued attacks, all of his caustic attacks, from all directions at once, with these attacks being infallible, they can rapidly corrode away and kill any target within its range. Kryn can cast it as both as a Repulsed Field or as a Unified Field but always casts Unified Field.
  • Sifting: Kryn is very capable in several forms of Sifting, a diverse technique that can grant various abilities
    • Clear Sifting: The first Sifting technique he learned, Clear Sifting will passively remove any negative ailment he suffers from, such as poison or diseases. He can actively use it to remove such ailments from others as well
    • Fair Sifting: Fair Sifting passively negates the amplifications of others and renders them invalid. Kryn's Fair Sifting is capable enough to invalidate amplifications used by Archantvers
  • Unknown anti-healing Method: Kryn's unspecified Method. This makes it difficult to recover from any of his attacks. This is imbued to his Phanon to be transformed into a Method, He is capable of dealing permanent injuries on his targets, even the likes of Vezira vyn Rasnum, who was unaffected by a Diminisher used against him by Kandor Shemath, a Paramountver rank soldier.
