"The fate of many things rests on my shoulders now, and I don't know whether I alone can take the burden." - King Raúl

Summary[]

Raúl (Also known as King Raúl) is an active side character within The Shadow of Revenge. He is the ruler of most of England and parts of Scotland, with Northumbria being the only part of England he has given control to Momo, when he ceded control by crowning him the Archduke of Haevaria. Raúl has large ambitions for England, and wishes to see Rancour dealt with, by joining Momo in a war against him to capture all of the British Isles, thus allowing him to rule over the entirety of the British Isles and subjugate Ireland with the help of Prince Marzen. Raúl is personally extremely protective of his wife and son, siding with Momo due to believing it would give them the greater chance to kill Rancour, before he could kill anyone that they love.

Backstory[]

Raúl originates from the Immora clan, where they originate from, however, is unknown. What is known of the clan is it as adored for its longevity as it was dubbed the 'warrior clan.' Raúl is known among all of the people of his homeland as the strongest and an absolutely prodigal genius. This was for good reason as he is the only man to ever challenge Rancour for the title of the strongest. Raúl became married to Queen Liana at least 7 years prior to his rulership over the Kingdom of England, as he fathered a son in that time, and is raising him to be even stronger than him.

Story Involvement[]

The Rise to Power Arc[]

Although he was sparsely active during this arc, Raúl was mentioned as claiming the throne of England during the events of chapter nine Raúl learned of enemies within his reach. Raúl's intelligence caused him to quickly become aware of Ellanher, Hjalmarr, Rancour and Momo. He quickly deduced that Rancour and Momo would attempt to aid the rebels within Nottingham and decided to personally set out with his troops. As he was engaging with Rancour, he gained doubts of his true intentions and accidentally allowed his Earl Marshal to carry out the order to wipe out the city of Nottingham, being unaware of these orders until the end of battle, where the Earl Marshal as put to death.

The Battle for York Arc[]

Toward the end of the battle for York, Dæinvorol was incarnated by Ellanher. Noticing the influx of power from a massive earthquake in York, Raúl rushed to York, aiding in the battle against Dæinvorol and showcasing his immense power that eclipsed both Rancour and Momo. His Dominion, Axis of the Beyond was put on showcase, as it easily tore Dæinvorol apart, providing a decisive victory against the greatest calamity since the time of Rancour, unbeknownst to anyone at the time.

The New World Arc[]

After the betrayal of Rancour, King Raúl immediately moves to aid Momo, Takahiro and Hjalmarr in establishing their new state, crowning him the Archduke of Haevaria, and adding his territory to the Kingdom of England. Following a humiliating defeat at the hands of Rancour, Raúl begins training Momo and his allies to become stronger, slowly revealing his extreme power as 'The King with No Fear.' Over the course of The New World Arc, Raúl fights against Lord Vallum and Rancour on multiple occasions as he gets exponentially stronger and smarter to match the growing power of Rancour. Towards the end of the Arc, Raúl prepares to fight Rancour for the state of the war.

The Cosmic War Arc[]

The Cosmic War Arc is Raúl's most prominent arc. During the events of this Arc, Raúl reaches heights of power that entirely eclipse the main cast, barring Rancour, the only man who could understand him despite being upon the other side of the blade. Toward the middle of the Arc, Raúl and Rancour face off, in a 3 chapter battle, Raúl comes out as the winner against Rancour, however, due to Rancour's prior plan, he was able to seal Raúl in The Void Realm, proving his name as the strongest, as not even the entirety of the main cast could best a weakened Rancour. Raúl, after nearly a month of struggle in reality, was unsealed, revealing that he had been stuck in the Void Realm for ten years and that he and Rancour were the Avatars of Order and Chaos respectively. Raúl continued to train the main cast after this, and had set the stage for round two with both Rancour and David. Once Raúl had joined the fight against Rancour and David he handily defeated them, briefly meeting and exchanging remarks with Sos'ul'nuruo before he escaped back to Umin with David, causing Rancour to also enact his plan to restore himself to Umarnak, leaving the main cast alone and with an unsure purpose leading into the future.

Appearance[]

King Raúl has been vividly described within the story at multiple points. Earlier in the story, he was a tall slender man with a somewhat well-built physique and a well-defined face with beautiful green eyes. Once unsealed in Chapter 28, King Raúl is described to be similar in look to his brother, Rancour, sporting beautiful mid-length brown hair, a short beard, green eyes that seemed to 'emanate a feeling of calmness', and a muscular and well-defined physique that was aesthetically pleasing. His beauty was noted to be regal.

Personality[]

Personage[]

Raúl is a pragmatic and charismatic man who is open and astute in all his dealings. Raúl comes across as intelligent, being noticed by Rancour from their first meeting as incredibly intelligent and confident, as he was able to soundly demonstrate his power without needing to show off any of his abilities, rather using his capacity to read his opponents and use his skills in martial arts to demonstrate his immaculate power. Raúl is also known to boast a decently high ego, at many points not bringing out the full breadth of his arsenal in order to prove his name as the strongest, which has caused him to prolong fights that could have been ended earlier.

Despite major and minor flaws, Raúl is a caring and compassionate husband to his queen Liana and a strong and kind father to his son, and has prioritised their safety, because despite being a monster and being feared by nearly everyone around him, they are the ones who love him unconditionally.

Raúl has been noted to be interested in forming and growing his allies' strength, as he has repeatedly shown an interest in training his allies and deepening their abilities and power, taking a particular interest in Momo, as he sees a future in him which goes far beyond him. He also considers Momo a friend, awarding him the closeness of a companion, and personally training him to reach the fullest extent of his power.

Philosophy[]

Raúl's philosophical standpoint has evolved massively over time. In his earlier days he lead a quiet, reserved life with his family, his power being confined to a small County in lands controlled by the Immora clan. Over his quiet life he became married to Liana the Fair of England and she became his Countess. Some time after becoming married to Liana, he fostered his son, causing a dramatic shift in his philosophy.[1] Upon revelation of the ill health of the king, Liana was invited back to England and Raúl subsequently returned with her, leaving most of his wealth behind to his family. Upon his entry into England, the king was assassinated and he assumed the throne as the royals killed one another to assume the throne[2], through seeing the actions of the royals, he became steadfast in purging the bickering royals and restoring stability and growth to the English lands, to this end, he enlisted the help of Takahiro Genji and his old friend Marzen.

After a successful purge of the royals, Raúl became concerned with Rancour, who had revealed his true self, entering a body from which he could assume his soul's power in far more. Over the time of Rancour regaining his soul and his loss to Lord Vallum, Raúl became obsessive over power, building the time room and training near psychotically, only returning to his family throughout the day, slowly alienating them, despite his best efforts to spent the daytime with them and a good husband and father. Raúl noticed his growing strength alienating those around him, thus bringing him to his final realisation about strength, that inadvertently contributes to his growing ego. The strongest will never be understood, and Raúl needed a greater purpose than the scramble for strength.

Raúl faced his final test of will against Rancour. His egotistical nature got a hold of him during this battle and forced him to be sealed. As he entered The Void Realm, he was trapped for a month, reflecting upon his failures and realising he had fought for pride and for ego, rather than for a selfless quest, he vowed never to allow himself to put his selfish desires before the greater purpose for which he had to fulfil. In doing this, The Void Master revealed himself to Raúl, teaching him how to enter The Next World, and how to become one with the Starshatterer, making him reach his greatest heights, for what was left of his humanity. Raúl accepted this sacrifice, and let go of his human desires, becoming the monster that would destroy evil.

Abilities:

Resistances:

  • Complex Sorcerer Resistances
  • Poison Manipulation (Was naturally resistant to Vallum and Dæinvorol's poison)
  • Paralysis Inducement (Shrugged off Dæinvorol's poison which paralyses those it damages, alongside getting up from Vallum's poison which was far more potent)

  • All Previous Abilities, Greatly Enhanced and:

    • Aura (Explosive, Overwhelming, Fear-Inducing, Charismatic and Defensive - Raúl's aura is one of his most refined techniques, he uses it in a similar fashion to Momo and Rancour, harnessing it to defend himself and force enemies onto the defensive when he is attacking)
    • Precognition (Has incredible precognition enhanced by his intellectual capacity, which gives him further control over his foresight, making it more refined than most users of the technique)

All Previous Resistances, greatly enhanced and:

  • Fear Manipulation (Was entirely unphased by Momo and Vallum, who could break souls with their auras alone)
  • Regeneration Nullification (Raúl's regeneration can withstand the powers of negation and Dominions)
  • Pain Manipulation (Despite being severely wounded and dying, Raúl got up within Vallum's Dominion and activated his through sheer force of will, continued amplifying his Dominion despite it taking a toll on his essence and making him feel unimaginable pain)

  • All Previous Abilities, greatly enhanced and:

All Previous Resistances, Greatly Enhanced and:

All Previous Abilities, Greatly Enhanced and:

All Previous Resistances, Greatly Enhanced and:

    • Order Manipulation (Is immune to the use of his own concept)
    • Subjective Reality (Reality naturally abides by the rules of order, and it is incredibly hard to overwrite its influence)
    • Chaos Manipulation (Can stalemate Chaos in a tug of war and even overpower it depending on the user's power)
    • Fate Manipulation, Plot Manipulation and Causality Manipulation (Raúl was unbounded from the 'truth' of the world, making the wheel of fate and the narrative pointless against him. His point in the story changes the course of it entirely, allowing him to passively influence fate and override The Wheel of Fate which governs all of reality)

All Previous Abilities, on an Unfathomably Higher Scale and:

    • Nonduality (Nonduality Type 3 - Raúl, alongside Rancour and David are free of 'The Restrictors,' which are the dichotomies of all things. When without The Restrictors, one is of their own being, relating to dichotomy in a way that makes them simply themselves, making their being is entirely independent to dichotomy. The Restrictors control the 'essence of all things,' containing the essence, soul and body and what is and isn't. It is neither dual, nor non-dual or outside of duality, it is transcendent of all simultaneously. Freedom from The Restrictors makes one embody the state of the restrictors, being a singular constant, which is their True Essence within The Next World)
    • Immortality (Type 9 - The True Essence of Raúl exists within The Next World and he cannot be destroyed until his True Essence within The Next World is destroyed)
    • Acausality (Type 5) and Passive Fate Manipulation (Raúl's existence in The Next World immunises him against The Wheel of Fate, as his existence alone is able to passively influence fate through his actions. Raúl can change causes and effects freely through his actions and he cannot be affected by them in return)
    • Limited Conceptual Manipulation (Type 1 - Raúl is a part of The Next World, where his True Essence lies. His True Essence is a fundamental part of existence itself and any action he takes can change, shape or manipulate the fate of everything)
    • Abstract Existence and Avatar Creation (Type 1 - Raúl's True Essence is a state of being that is abstract and entirely unique to him and is its own 'place,' making his body a simple avatar of who he formerly was)
    • Nonexistent Physiology (Nature 2, Aspects 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - Raúl's True Essence does not exist in 'The Grand Book,' making his being entirely unique to him and his 'qualities' unique to himself. His Soul, Essence, Concept, Mind and Place in Reality are entirely unique, neither existing nor not-existing, they are simply 'his')
    • Law Manipulation (Raúl's avatar can change what logic applies to him at any point, allowing himself to be on the level of people like Momo, and even allowing them to hit him despite this not being logically possible)

All Previous Resistances, on an Unfathomably Higher Scale and:

  • Reality Warping (Raúl's place in reality is unique to himself, making the usage of reality altering abilities entirely useless against him, as he simply is of his own reality)

  • Attack Potency: Island level (Raúl was able to physically injure a Pre-York Momo and Rancour, his power being incredibly strong in comparison to his. Raúl was able to severely wound and restrict Dæinvorol during their fight, alongside Rancour)[3], higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Moon level+ (After the year long period in-between chapters thirteen and sixteen, Raúl had grown immensely in power, being a rival to Momo and Dæinvorol, later into chapters seventeen - twenty, Momo considered Raúl to be superior to him, even in Black Form. Directly stated to be a rival to Rancour in his overwhelming power)[4], higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Solar System level (Physically killed wraiths that Momo's Gamma Ray Bursts barely harmed in a singular hit whilst exhausted and holding back, destroyed Proxima Centauri D, shook the solar system, which scales to this, hit an Ardour's Spark after this, raising his power by a further 25%, as Ardour's Spark's raise power by 25% temporarily regardless of its strength. Hit two more Ardour's Spark's before being sealed by Rancour, was superior to Momo's Ultimate Form and Ichiro' power, who eclipsed Dæinvorol, who could destroy the Solar System by proxy of existing)[5], higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Universe level+ (Stopped the spread of Chaos across the timeline. Raúl is a direct rival to Rancour and stated himself to be able to easily kill Rancour without his ring), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Low Complex Multiverse level (Raúl was stated to have ascended to the next world, a fifth dimensional plane beyond the reaches of anyone besides Rancour, Raúl and David. Easily matched both David and Rancour in a 2v1)

Speed: Sub Relativistic, Speed of Light attack speed with Interior, Exterior and Median (Raúl was around the same speed as Momo during the beginning of the Dæinvorol fight, lagging behind them by its conclusion)[6], higher with Axis of the Beyond | Massively FTL+ (Over the twenty years he trained, Raúl became so powerful and fast that he could make Momo seem still)[7], higher with Axis of the Beyond | Massively FTL+, likely higher (Perception blitzed wraiths that could do this, travelled 4.3 lightyears in ten seconds, landed an Ardour's Spark after this. Hit two more Ardour's Spark's before being sealed by Rancour)[8], higher with Axis of the Beyond | Infinite (Should be superior to Rancour, Vallum, Adonis and Marzen in speed, as he stated he could beat Rancour easily without his ring and effortlessly beat Vallum), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Immeasurable (Stated to be superior to space and time, not abiding by its bounds, Dodged multiple hits minutes after they had landed)

Lifting Strength: Class M (Comparable to Momo), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Class Z (Broke free of Dæinvorol, overpowering him physically), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Pre-Stellar (Superior to Post-Absorption Momo by an incomprehensible degree, shook the Solar System with physical force alone, punched Rancour across multiple lightyears of distance, hit three Ardour's Sparks, raising his strength by an innumerable degree), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Immeasurable (Likely comparable to his prime self and Rancour), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Immeasurable (Could tear apart space and time with his bare hands, and could tear the timeline apart if he so pleased)

Striking Strength: Island level (Equivalent to raw attack potency), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Moon level+ (Shouldn't be largely inferior to attack potency, can infuse Interior and Exterior into his punches raising his damage and making him able to detonate small Medians), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Solar System level (Shouldn't be largely inferior to attack potency, one shot a wraith Momo could barely damage physically and knocked out Rancour with an Interior amped punch), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Universe level+ (Likely superior to Rancour, his abilities amplify his striking power significantly), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Low Complex Multiverse level (Easily harmed David and dominated him physically whilst the latter acknowledged his techniques and strength. Slammed Rancour into his Sanctum with such force blood seeped from his head), higher with Interior, Flaw and Amplification (When combining Interior, Flaw and Amplification, Raúl can double his attack output)

Durability: Island level (Raúl's durability should match his striking strength, with the resonance barrier being able to protect him from an attack which gravely harmed Dæinvorol), higher with Axis of the Beyond | Moon level+ (Comparable to Black Form Momo. Survived heavy attacks from Lord Vallum), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Solar System level (No sold a superior attack to Momo's Gamma Ray Burst, has taken full output strikes from Rancour and the maximum output of his Dominion), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Universe level+ (Should be superior to Rancour), higher with Axis of the Beyond, far higher with Ardour's Spark | Low Complex Multiverse level, higher with Sanctuary (Raúl effortlessly blocked David's attacks with Sanctuary and survived Rancour's Dominion and Irgoth's attacks simultaneously)

Stamina: Superhuman (Raúl can fight for extended periods with limited signs of fatigue, and has shown on multiple occasions to be able to fight at full strength with heavy wounds, fought on even ground with Rancour whilst heavily wounded), higher with Axis of the Beyond

Range: Standard Melee Range, up to Tens of Kilometres with Spectral Attacks | Standard Melee Range, up to Tens of Kilometres with Spectral Attacks | Standard Melee Range, up to Tens of Kilometres with Spectral Attacks, Interplanetary, possibly Interstellar with Shockwaves | Standard Melee Range, up to Tens of Kilometres with Spectral Attacks, Interstellar with Shockwaves, Universal+ with multiple abilities | Standard Melee Range, up to Tens of Kilometres with Spectral Attacks, Interstellar with Shockwaves, Universal+ with multiple abilities, Low Complex Multiversal with Spectral Energy bursts

Standard Equipment: The Starshatterer | None notable once Unsealed

Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius, possibly Supergenius (Confirmed on multiple occasions to be a genius, has seen through the schemes of Rancour multiple times and has assessed the abilities, weaknesses and strengths of his opponents after limited exposure to them. Raúl can create intricate plans and strategies on the fly and has shown himself to be extremely skilful with his abilities and how to use them against opponents. Quickly figured out Dæinvorol's technique and knew of Momo's intentions when visiting before he had come, alongside knowing the beast had survived. Raúl has been able to handily predict the future and has outsmarted the likes of Rancour and Vallum, playing their weaknesses to force through his agenda, buying himself time to further learn of them and their abilities whilst becoming stronger, Raúl has also created a room with consistent time dilation, its source, a device he crafted to create a gravity induced flux state which made an hour within, become a day on the outside. Using a second device, he applied the inverse effect to the room, making a day inside become an hour on the outside. Learnt rudimentary dominion instantaneously, which took Momo multiple chapters to build to. Learnt Pure Dominion only by witnessing Takahiro use it. Predicted his loss against Rancour, preparing for it by making Rancour as weak as possible and forcing him to seal him instead of killing him, effectively changing the future with his mind, was given a vast array of knowledge from Order and The Void Master, making him even more knowledgeable and further involved in the Spectral World, making his techniques unfathomably superior to everyone in the verse. His superiority was demonstrated by his final mastery of the Equilibrium technique, such mastery required him to consistently output the power of a hundred minds every hour, and thousands of times more power if he was using the technique to its fullest extent, such as using Interior, Exterior and Median alongside the mastered form of Sanctuary. Keeping this technique active at all times required using amounts Spectral Energy and intellectual capacity that were unparalleled, doing on instinct alone is the greatest feat of intelligence, skill and mastery within the entire verse, as creating this technique and running it to mastery risks death, but Raúl's intellectual capacity and understanding of Spectral Energy was so incredibly high in their qualities that he could do this. He was considered by Rancour to be even greater than him in mastery and knowledge of Spectral Energy than he had found in four hundred years. Understood every detail of Adonis, Gio, Nathaniel, Grimbjor and Ariane instantaneously with just a look at them, stating they were 'an open book.' David, who is also know for his incredible genius was unable to read Raúl due to his mind's sheer complexity, and he instantly understood that Raúl was letting him know what he wanted and not allowing him to even gain misleading information. Compared to Sos'ul'nuruo in raw intellectual capacity. Was capable of reading his mind to ascertain what he wanted to know and thoroughly beat him in a philosophical debate)

Standard Tactics: Will try to assess his opponent by forcing himself onto the defensive, allowing him room to easily assess the powers, strength and intellect of his opponent. Once he has figured out their general combative style and strength, he will plan a counter to effectively kill or incapacitate them.

Weaknesses: His techniques are subject to burnout if he overuses them, or after he uses a Dominion. His dominion puts a large strain on his Essence and Spectral Energy reserves, causing him to become weaker and have reduced output if he overuses the Dominion. Will progressively lose power if his output is lowered as his techniques will lose the full breadth of their strength. His ego is quite high and may cause him to hold back his truest power in order to prove his superiority to his opponents.

    Notable Attacks/Techniques:

Equilibrium: The Equilibrium technique allows Raúl to have full control over the Immoran totality ability, which manifests in Interior, Exterior, Median and Sanctuary. Using these abilities beyond their barebones forms requires one to be a genius amongst geniuses, as the strain of actually projecting these abilities into reality causes one to use the mental capacity of hundreds of thousands of minds.

    Notable Matchups[]

    Losses:

    Inconclusive Matches:

    1. Although it is not entirely clear whether it was his marriage to Liana, personal problems, or the birth of his son, Marzen seems to recall his struggle for greater power beginning around the time his son was born.
    2. The English seemed to blame him for this action at the time, as most were uneducated and saw a foreigner entering their country and assuming their throne through a female heir to be illegitimate and prompted the epithet 'Raúl the Usurper' to be given to him, despite the king's death before he had entered London, where he was killed.
