~ Jeanne Smith torturing her killer, Berith Edwards. |
Jeanne Smith, also known simply as Jeanne, was the youngest daughter of Benjamin Smith and Marry Collins, and the younger sister of Helena and Isaac Smith. She was killed by Berith Edwards in her attempt to free the Princes of Hell from Sheol, resulting in the girl becoming a very powerful vengeful spirit. She also shares her existence with Naamah Edwards, her half-sister.
Backstory[]
Childhood[]
Jeanne was born during the 19XXs, two years after her older brother Isaac and four years after her older sister Helena, the three being children of Benjamin Smith, a teacher in his early thirties, and Mary Collins, who was in her thirties too. It is revealed by Gabriel to Isaac that he, like his father, mother, and sisters, are descendants of Seth and Norea, who were the children Adam and Eve had after Abel's death at the hands of Cain, with Seth's offspring having been blessed with great works and good testimonies since they began to spread over the Earth. She was born in New York City, in a somewhat poor house, but comfortable to live in. The family was humble, and their livelihood came directly from Benjamin and Helena who, being the oldest of the three siblings, started working early to help at home, working as a supermarket attendant near her home.
When Jeanne was twelve years old, with her brother fourteen, her father Benjamin hired a woman to take care of Jeanne, her name was Naamah Edwards. The two stayed at home, with Naamah taking care of the child, however, unfortunately the two were hungry, and Naamah saw that because the family was poor, she didn't want to spend the food they already had, preferring to go buy food with her money, but she he couldn't leave Jeanne alone. That's when, to her surprise, Berith Edwards, her father, arrived at the house where she was working, stating that "he just wanted to visit her daughter at work". Berith stayed there for a few minutes with the two, until Naamah comments that she and Jeanne were hungry and asked her father to go buy food, however, Berith told Naamah to go buy food, that he took care of the girl, because according to him, he didn't understood the strange diet of young people.
After Naamah left, Berith took advantage of the fact that he and Jeanne were alone and took the child's life without hesitation, leaving as fast as he could to avoid being found. When Naamah got home, she quickly dropped her groceries on the floor and ran towards the body of little Jeanne, who was pale on the sofa in the house. The woman then hugged the little girl's body screaming and crying asking her to wake up, trying to revive her, but to no avail. That's when something unexpected happened and a strong light came out of Jeanne and entered Naamah's body, it was the girl's soul, which for some reason ended up entering her babysit's body.
Awakening[]
After Jeanne's soul entered Naamah, the two being in the same body ended up merging with time, and Jeanne began to manifest in two ways, a physical form, which was through Naamah, and a spiritual form that appeared like a ghost. After this event, Naamah and Jeanne disappeared, with only the girl's body being found by her family, who cried and suffered great grief over the little girl's death. Benjamin began investigating and researching to try to find out who murdered his daughter. Years after her death, after her sister Lucifer's ascension back to Paradise, Jeanne began talking to her older brother through dreams, asking him to go to a dump where she was supposed to find him.
When Isaac arrived at the scene, he was knocked unconscious by Naamah, Jeanne's alter ego, and when he woke up, Naamah explained to Isaac, now in a sense also her brother, what had happened, about the merging of souls and who was the killer of Jeanne and the other children and even adults. Naamah revealed that she had a plan to put the souls of people killed by Berith inside Isaac to fuse them all together, thus gaining enough power to be able to kill him without risking being killed by Berith. After Naamah finished the ritual, tens of vengeful spirits were forced into Isaac Smith, including the soul of Jeanne and Naamah, who were now one.
Due to Isaac's body being a human body, he didn't have enough physical strength to withstand the power of tens of vengeful spirits within him, causing his body to begin to decompose and rot, to the point where it simply stopped functioning, that is, die. For months, Isaac had to live with his girlfriend with these various vengeful spirits inside his body that influenced his thoughts and personality, with Isaac doing his best to try to survive. Jeanne, or rather Jeanne's soul, ended up leaving Isaac's body due to not being able to bear to see her brother suffer, but that didn't cause the other souls to leave.
Sometime later, when Isaac received the information that Berith would be in an abandoned factory there in the city, he was quickly possessed by the spirits again who made him to the factory. Jeanne, guided by her instinct to want to destroy Berith, also went after him with her brother. Elizabeth after realizing that her boyfriend had left home suddenly, picked up the phone and Benjamin revealed Berith's location to her, with her taking her car and heading towards the factory.
After arriving at the factory, Elizabeth was approached by Benjamin and another man, who called himself Dantalion Edwards, Berith's youngest son. The three started looking for Isaac, until, suddenly, they found a child who had colorless, opaque eyes, and long hair, it was Jeanne, the child pointed her finger towards a location and suddenly disappeared. As they went to the spot where she had pointed, they found Berith, who was standing praying to Lucifer in front of an altar with dead bodies on top. However, as they attempted to attack Berith, he quickly pulled a pistol from his pocket, and was determined to kill them both there, with the exception of his son. Elizabeth then tried to attack Berith with magic, but her magic was to her surprise, nullified by a much stronger magic, Enochian magic. That's when the four began to hear a sound of strong footsteps, like a tremor, and then knocking down the wall of that establishment, Isaac appeared with his body already quite rotted and bruised, probably due to him breaking through an iron door before breaking into the place.
When Berith went to shoot Elizabeth, Jeanne appeared in front of Berith with a demonic appearance, with sharp teeth and red eyes, startling him and causing him to fall to the floor. Benjamin quickly told Elizabeth to escape through the door at the back of the factory, though reluctantly, Benjamin stated that Isaac would return to her arms, so she hesitantly accepted and ran towards the door. Benjamin then ran towards a part of the establishment where there were several boxes and lit a homemade bomb that he had built and set fire to the factory, the intention was to completely destroy the building, without giving Berith a chance to escape. After the flames burned much of the factory, the building collapsed on top of everyone who was there, however, Berith managed to survive, but before he could do any more evil, Isaac grabbed him and dismembered him, turning Berith into a dead wrecked body on the ground.
Revenge[]
However, although it was believed that Berith would have gone to Hell, the truth was that Jeanne, as she was a powerful vengeful spirit, did not want to let Berith go to Hell without first paying for all the suffering he caused to several families, including hers. It was then that Jeanne took Berith's soul and put him in a kind of infinite looping, being tortured by demons and the people who were killed by them, which were actually physical illusions created by Jeanne and Naamah, who were torturing Berith for months and months.
“ | SOOOONNN!!! BENJAMIN!!!! HELP MEEEEEE!!!! PLEAAAAAASEEEEE! NAAAAMAAAHHHH, HELP MEEEEEEEEE!!!! | „ |
~ Berith being tortured. |
“ | You won't die so easily. The party is just getting started, there's a lot of fun and fantasy where I come from. Don't worry, we'll find an ideal punishment for you. | „ |
~ Jeanne/Naamah to Berith. |
After months of Berith being tortured endlessly by Jeanne, it got to the point where, the Angels in Heaven saw that this needed to stop, not out of mercy for Berith, but for Jeanne, who needed to rest in peace. It was then that Lucifer decided to go to his sister to talk to her. Lucifer went to her little sister and told her to leave this punishment and go to heaven to be with her, Mom and Dad, telling her "leave the devil to his devils." After that, Jeanne and Naamah's souls resolved to leave Berith, with his soul falling straight into Hell afterwards, with Lucifer personally guiding her sister's and Naamah's souls to Paradise.
Appearance[]
Jeanne during the year she died was a normal twelve-year-old girl and like her sister, she inherited her mother's golden hair which is short at the neck. She used to wear a white sailor style uniform. After passing away, she began to manifest as a girl with grayish yellow hair, as if she was dusty, with her skin being green and her eyes reddened with blood. His uniform also changed, becoming black and dark, representing mourning. Although she normally appears in her original form, Jeanne can also change her shape and form, making her appearance much scarier, being able to appear as a six-foot-tall, asexual creature with dark fur, glowing eyes, and sharp teeth. Jeanne can also appear as a normal girl, but with a ghostly appearance, without eyes and mouth and totally pale, or as a girl with bright eyes and sharp teeth. She can even change shape and take on the appearance of someone else.
Personality[]
Jeanne during her life was an honest and kind little girl, with a pure and affectionate heart, having a great love for her family, especially for her parents, and she was very friendly with her siblings. However, after dying, Jeanne became a vengeful spirit, no longer caring about what was ahead of her, going after Berith to kill him. She was also able to trick her own brother into going to a mysterious place to knock him out and put dozens of souls inside him. Despite this, she didn't get to the point of indulging in amorality, worrying about her older brother, abandoning his body after realizing he was suffering.
“ | It's time to show you the real pain you've caused. Face your biggest enemy, face your biggest nightmare. Fight with yourself! | „ |
~ Jeanne/Naamah to Berith before summoning multiple clones of him. |
She has also become something Benjamin mentions as a "mother", with Jeanne going after the souls who suffered at Berith's hands to try to find comfort for them, a rest. Due to the love she has for her family, when Berith died, her desire for revenge herself and to avenge her family and friends, made her torture Berith endlessly for months, causing him to be attacked and "killed" countless times by the people he murdered, until she came to the conclusion that the best way to torture Berith was with himself, so she created several clones of her killer and had them "kill" him over and over again. In the end, with Lucifer's interference, Jeanne gave up her desire for revenge and was finally able to rest in peace.
Despite having been a scary and powerful vengeful spirit, to the angels she is still a cute and friendly little girl, while Berith is seen as a cold and heartless monster and undeserving of redemption.
