~ Hina asking Mason about ghosts |
Background[]
Hina Blake was born in 1998, growing up in Japan. She was an extremely healthy child, able to speak full sentences at a very young age. Not only that, she was also extremely intelligent as well. Her favorite thing to do in her free time was to read and write. When she turned 4 and was able to go to school, she immediately stood out among her class. Not only was she the smartest in her class, she was able to do advanced problems that normal children couldn't do.
Despite her high intellect however, she wasn't really good at talking or opening up to others. This would lead to occasional bullying from other children, although this wasn't the only reason why her classmates hated her so much. Nonetheless, this didn't bother Hina too much since it usually wasn't directed towards her. The reason for this was because of who her mother was: Yukari Yagashira. Yukari was an extremely important person is many organizations. Her job was to check if a company was complying with the law, such as if they were paying off their taxes. Many companies have gone bankrupt because of Yukari's strict enforcement, leaving the children of the owners of those companies that have gone bankrupt to hate Hina and take out all their anger on her. It caused her relationship with her peers to be very rocky and awkward during middle school and high school.
However, despite how difficult life had been for her in middle school, things changed after high school. Hina graduated top of her class and received a scholarship to study abroad in Germany. There, she met her best friend, Daniel Deakins, who was studying there at the same time. He had grown up in America but moved back home when his father passed away. He was also studying Engineering and had always wanted to move to Europe to pursue his dreams. They quickly became close friends, going everywhere together.
After a few years of studying, Hina asked what it was like in America. "It's amazing." Daniel replied. "A lot of places to eat with all kinds of cultures around. Not only that, there's a lot of modern technology over there." After thinking about it, Hina decided to apply for the American visa. If she could get into America, then maybe it would be easier for her to make new friends and learn more once she got there. She planned to meet Daniel inside the airport after a few months.
Since she was already in Europe, it wasn't too hard for her to obtain a visa to come to America. However, upon arrival at the airport, she was stopped by a customs agent. "What's your purpose here?" he asked. "I'm here to visit my cousin." She answered. Due to her high intelligence she was able to learn English pretty quickly. However, she was still a bit nervous due to the situation. Still, she held her head high and spoke as clearly as possible. "Me and my friend are going to go to America. I haven't seen him in a long time." This was a lie, and she knew it. Hina knew something was a bit off. After another "questionnaire" the agent eventually let her go and meet up with Daniel. After treating themselves to a meal and going to the bathroom just to be safe, they waited for their plane to arrive. When it did, they boarded the plane and took their seats.
The plane ride went by without any issues. As Daniel looked out the window, he saw Hina looking through her phone. She was probably texting with her mom to make sure everything was okay and see when she could visit again. Daniel on the other hand was more restful, trying to look on the bright side of life. Even though he was busy studying, Daniel felt the urge to relax every now and then. Once the duo arrived in America, Daniel decided to take her to Sugar Land, a city located in Texas. Thanks to Daniel, Hina was able to settle down pretty peacefully in the city, and was also able to attend a school. For two years, Hina lived in America with her friend. However, after a while, she started to miss Japan. She missed her family and friends there, and she also wanted to go back to the country where she was born.
But of course, America was also important for her education as well. One day, while going to school, she overheard some noises in an alleyway. Curious, she decided to check it out only to find a boy getting beaten up by a group of bullies. Rushing to help him, Hina used her techniques she was taught at her old school at slowly but surely overpowered the group of bullies, who retreated. She quickly aided the boy who was injured and took him to the hospital, even though he insisted that he was okay. After returning home, she couldn't stop thinking about the incident.
After a few days, she decided to visit the boy again, who was somehow quickly recovering. The doctors stated that he took the beatings very well, with no critical injuries whatsoever. Hina was very impressed by how durable the boy was and helped him get back to his home. However, something just didn't really feel right about him. He was very durable for sure, so durable that he could take on a beating done by multiple people. If he really was that strong, then why not try to fight back? Was he just outnumbered? Hina shrugged her thoughts off.
"You're one tough guy, aren't you?" She said. "But next time, don't fight alone! Try to talk to someone first!" The boy looked at Hina blankly. "I don't have any friends, so I can't really do that. I'm more of an introvert." "Ahh, okay. Well, maybe just start slow. For example, if you want to make some friends, join a club." She suggested. "That way, you'll have something to do in your free time and will meet people along the way." The boy smiled. "Alright, I'll take that advice. Uh, now that I think about it, we haven't really told each other our names."
"Oh yeah. Well, my name's Hina Blake. What's yours?"
"Mason. Mason Will."
Hina nodded. "Nice to meet you, Mason. I hope you recover soon."
"Likewise. You're a nice girl, Hina. I'd like to hang out with you sometime, if you don't mind." This phrase made Hina extremely joyful. She had finally found a second friend. Daniel wasn't bad though, of course. He was a great friend to have, and she loved spending time with him. However, she never really connected with him emotionally. As the days went by, Mason and Hina kept hanging out together with Daniel. The trio seemed to get along pretty well, and travelled to many places together. But as Mason was focused. Focused on his work. Hina and Daniel both knew that. Whenever he had paperwork, he would try his best to get it done completely. Even if he got interrupted by them, he would continue working until the job was done. Sometimes it was pretty rare to see Mason hanging out, but what could you really do about it?
One day, they were having a picnic near the lake. Daniel and Hina had brought food from home, while Mason was going to get something at the mall. Just before he left, Hina noticed something strange on the ground. She picked it up and thought it might be useful later. "Daniel, what's this?" She asked. "Eh?" He replied, surprised. "Oh, it's nothing. Let's see... Oh, it's a pen. Must've fallen from your bag, Hina." "How thoughtful of you, Daniel."
"Please, just put it back in your bag."
"Okay."
After a few minutes, Mason came back with some more snacks. "Hey guys! What's up? Did you have fun?"
"Yeah. We actually just got back from a walk." Daniel said.
"Sounds like you had a good time." Mason replied.
"We did."
"By the way, here's the stuff I bought." He handed them each a gift wrapped box. "Sorry about that. I know it's kinda late, but I figured there's no better time than a present." "You didn't have to go through so much trouble." Daniel replied. "Thanks a ton, Mason!" "No problem." Mason replied. "But seriously, thank you. It's really sweet of you." Hina thanked him as well. "It's delicious too." She continued, eating some of the food inside the boxes. "Man, I wish I could buy these from the restaurant. They're so tasty." After the picnic, the duo then set out for more adventures together, although over time they were forced to part ways. Hina was attending college, while Daniel was still stuck in high school. Nevertheless, Hina tried her best to keep in touch with Daniel, sending him emails and messages to tell him about her life in school. Daniel did the same as well.
His father had gotten sick, and he had to help his mother take care of him as well. Despite this, he still managed to stay in contact with Hina and sent her letters as often as he could. That was until Hina got a job as a detective. After that, everything went downhill.
After she graduated from college, Hina began working as a private investigator. She worked mostly on criminal cases, such as murder investigations and missing persons cases. Believe it or not, she was a genius. A genius among every other genius. She was able to crack open cases in a month, with the hardest she worked on lasting for around a year. In fact, most of her cases ended up being solved within a week.
This was because of the amount of information she had access to. She constantly kept herself updated on the latest news and rumors throughout the city, which allowed her to have a lot of connections. On top of that, she was pretty much smart from birth. She had skipped a grade in school, and had easily passed every test thrown at her. She was not only intelligent, but also knowledgeable in many fields. This led to Hina becoming an excellent detective, solving cases that other detectives had given up on.
One day however, something happened that made her life change. She was called in by the chief. "Hina." he told her. "You have proven yourself to be an extremely useful detective, which is why we'll be giving a new mission." Hina nodded her head. "What kind of mission?" she asked. "Well, we'll be transporting you over to a new police station filled with detectives. Those detectives you see, are the best of the best out there. And you'll be joining them in their work."
Hina was nervous and excited at the same time. She was relieved that she would finally be able to connect with other detectives as she was still introverted, but also worried because she wouldn't be able to see Daniel and Mason anymore. "Alright then. I'll leave for the new station tomorrow morning."
"That's fine. After you report to the station, a car will be waiting for you."
"Yes sir."
"Good luck then. You are dismissed." The chief said.
"Thank you sir ." Hina replied.
With that, Hina left the office and headed straight towards her station, continuing her work before it was time to go home. When she arrived back at home, she quickly got ready for the next day. The next morning, she woke up early, ate breakfast, and left the house. When she reached the station, she found the chief waiting for her. After her final goodbyes were over, she was transported by a private car. Once she reached her destination, she was shocked by how modern everything was. She was greeted by a man wearing a black coat, welcoming her to the facility.
She was then introduced to her team. She was an Overseer, a rank for only the smartest individuals in the facility. "Now, I know this is all sudden." the man said. "But we have a task for you. It's pretty serious."
"A task? Well what is it?"
"It's simple."
Hina grew a tad more curious.
"Catch the Stalker." the man said.
So, that's exactly what she set out to do. And after many many long years of work, she had finally mastered multiple skills. She was known as one of the best detectives in the facility. However, she could ever outsmart the Stalker. It frustrated her. He had taken so many lives, and it was her responsibility to catch him. But it was stressful. Hard. Pressuring. It seemed impossible. But alas, she cheered herself up. She had just been visited by Daniel, and he made her feel better. He was her motivation. "Ma'am!" a detective called out. Turning around, she saw a detective catching his breath. "We've just got news that every single criminal in the country is attacking each other! It's a warzone!"
"What!?"
Gearing up, she rushed to one of the crime scenes. There, she was stunned by how much chaos had erupted. If this went on, the country would be completely destroyed. "Ma'am, your orders?" someone asked. "Circle the criminals! Distract them all!" she commanded. "Team K, focus on rescuing surviving civilians!"
"Yes ma'am!"
Everyone scurried away into their battle positions, as Hina charged into what seemed to be the end of the world. She and her teammates starting shooting the criminals, who fired back. However, they were still focused on the other gangs and organizations. If this continued there would be an outbreak. Although everything was going well at first, it wasn't until Hina realized that this was a losing battle. The criminals were too obsessed with victory. It was like they didn't know what they were doing, but they loved it. Their determination was unmatched. Even with the backup of military jet planes, everything was turning south. Rocket launchers were available to the criminals, and one by one the jets were gone. "Call some more backup!" Hina ordered. "We can't!" someone yelled back. "There's a mass shooting happening at every military base!"
"The military are experiencing problems as well!?" Hina exclaimed. "Whatever, hold your ground! Pull through!" But it was easier said than done. More and more troops were lost, and the military not being of any help, everything was slowly starting to crumble away. Running up onto a tower to escape ground level fighting, Hina threw everything she had at the hoard of mindless crooks. Screams of her men were heard. Was she the only one left? How did this happen so quickly? The two questions kept bugging her mind. "That's the last one here!" a criminal cried, pointing to her on top of the building. "She one of those people that defied the Stalker! Kill her!" another voice screamed. Soon, many footsteps were storming from down below before she could do anything. She had to escape. "Shoot!" she thought out loud. "Are they actually planning to kill themselves and take down the country with them!?"
Jumping out of the window, she jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Shooting and killing anyone that came her way while knocking them off the building. Once she was out of bullets, she resorted to her knife. Thrashing and swinging her blade around, she cut through many enemies standing in her way as she let out a furious battle cry. Breaking through a window, she managed her way down the new tower she was in, killing anyone in her way. Her hope suddenly grew more as she saw a vehicle that looked intact. She knew that this was a cowardly move to play, but it was her only choice. But just as she was about to escape, a rocket was fired, killing her on impact. Her body exploded and was flung into the air. Her life was gone. Everything she had was gone. Daniel was gone. Mason... wait. Where was Mason? Where was he..? As she suddenly realized who the Stalker was, she noticed that due to her being blinded by friendship, she was the fool. She had been tricked. And it was all going down the drain. The answer was right in front of her, and she threw it away.
Then, nothing. Only silence.
