...Right.
~ Gal's catchphrase

Gal's eyes met Helen's, as he found... Passion? Why that look, when she of all people should know how what he's done, what he's really like... Does it just, not matter to her?

... No, it doesn't. Why?

He couldn't tell if the thought that came next was from Fen, or his own self.

Because it's okay to want something for yourself... You matter, just as much as everyone you're trying to save. So if you want to be with a girl, if you want to be looked up to... Just make sure you're still doing your job.

Just like that, things suddenly shifted within his being. Upon his medallion, the phoenix was born, not consuming the raven... but just pushing it back, to give itself room to exist alongside it.

"... I thought I was a monster, all this time, but... I guess this darkness is a piece of me, just like with anyone else."

His power grew exponentially, as his blackened blood flowed freely... Not against the darkness within it, but with it, amplifying him.

"... Yeah, you're right. I'm not supposed to be some pure, divine figure. I'm myself, and that's enough."

~ Gal accepting his darker attributes and pushing forward as a greater person.

... Don't worry. Just remember, that if you fail now... The regret may be worse than the pain you're feeling right now. Hold on to that knowledge and keep fighting as long as you can.

"... I swear to you... To every last chimera in this entire world... YOU WILL DIE, WHEN YOUR TIME COMES, BY MY FUCKING HANDS!"
~ To Francesca, as he was forced to let her escape to save Helen

Summary[]

A user of light Aurament and a protagonist in the Castle Chaos/Dominion Odyssey Duology. Pronounced Gaul, as in, Galeem or Gallant, and in Hebrew, means "Wave". A fitting name, if in the same cruel way that his life was made of crashing up and down, from a condemned infant, to a beloved hero, to a young man wallowing in his sins, all the way to a man who wavered in faith to his very race. All the same, his determination persisted and surged through adversity, wherever that lead him.

Backstory[]

Even to his birth, the joy that he would be brought into the world was replaced with horror as it suddenly verged into catastrophe, forcing an emergency C-section to remove him from his mother, who soon died from shock and blood loss. As his father and other family reeled from the revelation, the words of an oracle suddenly reached them; that this event was caused by the forces of Chaos, and that Gal's very existence was a foul omen that should be disposed of post-haste.

And so, to avoid the trauma of bloodshed, his father cast him into the river. The infant persisted on little but his primal instincts telling him to cling to life, desperately trying to fling their body above the water and get air, until the battle eventually ended on the shores of a far off village, where he was taken into an orphanage. While his childhood progressed without further abnormal events or near death experiences, something felt missing. Not just that he lacked parents, but that he felt his love was limited. His only caretaker was dragged in dozens of different directions at the same time, and his quiet nature was ill suited to gaining companionship from other children.

Though, within and without, a light suddenly shown. The stories of heroes of old, which instantly caught the attention and excitement of all who heard them. Even within Gal's own heart, he couldn't help but be captivated by the exploits of Lezard or the wit of Ampersand; and when his Aurament started to form within his body, a dream to strive for became crystal clear to him. He began training himself as much as he could, using stories of Light Sorcery's use as a guide and whatever little knowledge on sorceries he could glean from the adults around him.

Though, he could only go so far on his own. Even if his skills in using Lasray increased, no opportunities to truly test himself came for his village. But the next step of his journey emerged when he heard of a hermit that lived on a hill not too far, secluded with nothing but his martial arts. Gal knew that a proper master would allow him to progress on his journey, but when he found their home, he was met with stiffer resistance than expected. Sure, it was commonplace for a jaded old man to simply not want to teach, but as Gal attempted to coax them out of it, he received a kick straight to the solar plexus, sending him a physical distance and into a world of agony he had yet to experience up to that point.

And yet, after his cries ceased to ring out, Gal thought of the reason he came to begin with, and stood again to ask for the master's training. Even as he was forced to defend himself against what soon became active combat with the intent to demoralize, Gal's body was what proved more limited than his will, as he endured until made to collapse from injury. The Master had no choice but to heal him and take a diplomatic resolution, convincing the boy that he should return home before his caretaker got worried.

Though Gal complied, the next day had him arrive again, and the day after that, on and on to what felt like no end. Gal slowly pieced together the way of an adventurer and martial arts from the Master telling him of the horrors he should turn away from, and the Master found a living target to maintain his martial skill upon, and someone to talk to as his days slowly advanced to their end.

It eventually did come to an end, as Gal departed into the world to become an adventurer. Though he had no experience at a formal school, no one could doubt his capabilities, and gladly accepted his services for whatever price he named, most of which would end up in the village Gal grew up in. Things seemed happy, with Gal earning dividends of respect for his deeds as his quest continued... Until one fateful mission.

His briefing was simple. A witch was present near a major city, and he was likely the only one for the job. Once Gal began his search and eventually pinpointed their location, he was able to apprehend them easily but, things started to seem amiss from there. The so called "Witch" only seemed to use one Aurament, and spouted about the Mayor that had given him this mission was a corrupt fraud attempting to gain a higher position, his eyes being set on the seats of the very Imperial Senate.

It struck Gal as an odd lie to make, but by the time he had returned the quarry and confronted the mayor, the flaxen cord had wrapped around him. The Mayor drew a firearm and recommended they not be receptive to such dangerous ideas, lest he cut his village off from the money he had sent and permanently disgraced himself with treason. And in that moment, Gal decided discretion was the better part of valor, and walked away.

That was when the wave crashed next, in the form of a fateful encounter with The Mad Dog immediately after. In a sudden vengeance Gal had no time to recognize, the creature of darkness charged straight towards him. Though it seemed to be destroyed after a single use of Lasray sorcery, it's essence soon infected Gal and tormented him with visions of something terrible happening to a woman he couldn't truly recognize, but his mind drew the lines to the woman he had just left to his fate. He didn't think much of it, simply dismissing it as a shot fired in psychological warfare.

But once he awoke from what should have been rest, he found an undeniable sight of cruelty. A barbaric burning of a so called witch in the public eye. In the face of that horror and guilt, all Gal could do was run into the night; only stopping when he found another settlement. But no matter what distance was crossed, the damage was done. Even his body was not unscathed, as his white hair and golden eyes had corrupted to gray in the first of The Mad Dog's attacks, in what indeed seemed to be an outright war.

His only solace was happening upon a quest issued by someone named Sister Gwen, where a forest outside Lemniscrest had been corrupted by chaos. Whether it was a test of worthiness, or a final hurrah to die at, Gal didn't know. But he trudged on, and inevitably became wrapped up in the battle over Castle Chaos. It was in his darkest hour in which he met not only many he would soon come to consider as allies, but even his enemies had come to grant him a new understanding of himself and the world around him; greatest of all being his mentor in light and darkness, Crescentia C. Alhazred, and the love of his life, Helen Blancheflour.

Through encouragement from without and persistence from within, he fought back against the Mad Dog, eventually earning their respect and coming to a mutual understanding, to which they merged together in Light and Darkness. Through this newfound strength and the allies around him, he managed to save the Kingdom of Lucasta by assimilating the powers of chaos into his own body and flinging it back at the altar within, though at a nearly lethal cost that sent him into a Coma for 13 days.

When he had awoke, the waves crashed down again. His body barely functioned through a constant effort on his part, and when he came to realize that Alhazred and her adopted daughter Serpens were to be simply carted away by the Empire and face a cruel judgement, he knew he could not stand down. But, there was no true choice in the matter, as the following battle resulted in the loss of his arm and consciousness alike to no avail, bringing him out of action for an entire month.

Even when he was resuscitated thanks to the alchemical efforts of Vlad, he awoke to find the world as a whole in a difficult position. The flow of Auraments seemed to be awry in what was only later discovered as Nerissa "Siren" Wanwisa attempting to overwrite the very world from it's foundation, while it was publicly known that she was attempting to gain total control of the Empire as a whole. And no matter how much he pushed himself, he would ultimately only meet an untimely failure yet again, as he attempted to fight one of the elementals formed from the awry flow of Auraments and narrowly avoided death for him and the boy he was meant to save thanks to the efforts of Vlad.

He rapidly came to his lowest point so far. After being once again assailed during his recovery and outright killing the attacker, he began to slowly seclude himself darkness as a way to cope, focusing on the projection of power to defeat the obstacles standing in-between him and resolving the conflict. His realization of the toxicity behind such a mentality was too late to save his own. Through negligence of strategy and stubbornness, he was forced to take one last desperate attack, killing his own ally, Raymond, the very same he had already failed to protect from the earth elemental.

The guilt dominated his mind, and he drove himself forward into another struggle in an attempt to take the burden on his own shoulders. Though, his only avenue happened to be drawing in a far more dire power, that of the very Chaos he had opposed a mere month prior. In some sense, he got what he wanted, gaining an immense power fueled by a struggle for his existence, but it threatened to consume him entirely, and had already swallowed Fen whole. Perhaps it was only by the reassurance of that one friend that he continued forward.

But he wasn't truly repaired. Nothing could make that clearer than seeing his own failures me magnified in the face of the empire's dark underbelly, the imperial labs. Countless horrific experiments, using the life of the world and other humans as a means to further increase empire's power, to that which could perhaps become as gods. At the very center was Gal's own love, Helen, being worked to a certain death creating a World Tree for Siren, to further exemplify human excellence at the cost of everything. Not even destroying the lab could dispel it, as in one last-ditch maneuver, the director of it all drew upon the power of the Aetherys to manifest an artificial Aurizen, sending it on it's way to a slow death at Siren's hands.

It all compounded. Every wave in the storm of Gal's life ever since the day he sent a "witch" to burn, and he realized how truly, deeply cruel humanity was. Through the negligence of the many under imperial rule to let such a thing come to pass, and through the cruelty of those imperials were atrocities made a daily affair. The image was made undeniable through the eyes of Gal, who had personally experienced such failure in halting both corruption, and the loss of his own ally's lives.

Humanity needed a push, and with the world's state of disrepair, reconstructing it gave an opportunity to mold it anew. With that in mind, Gal knew that he had to destroy the empire entirely, rip out the roots of institution and leave humans to prosper on their personal merit and strength, while devoting the technologies, innovations and Energeia into the magnification of beasts in nature, to defend the world from Chaos in the stead of their weakness.

Perhaps one day, he'll see the end of that tumultuous dream.

Appearance[]

Gal dons nothing special, he simply has white robes that he wears around, usually with the hood up. His clothing beneath that is simply something you'd find on any peasant, a shirt held together by strings and pants in the same fashion. His eyes and hair can shift in color depending on his state, with his hair turning lighter if he is filled with righteous vigor, or darker if his darkness creeps upon him. By the end of Castle Chaos, it stabilized to a 50/50 of white and black.

Personality[]

As a child, and perhaps in his purest form, Gal was quiet and reserved. Through nature and the lack of a parent's guiding hand, he had little sense for how to converse with others, which lead to him being left mostly on his own. An emptiness took hold in a place unconditional love would normally fill, which led Gal to his heroic aspirations; to earn the love he couldn't find for himself. Naturally, this made him quite satisfied with the adventuring lifestyle, even if most of his funding wasn't kept for himself and he found himself constantly brushing up against death.

After his encounter with Fen, this satisfaction was shattered. He rapidly spiraled into self loathing for what he had allowed to take place, driving himself forward with a suicidal edge as he repressed his own selfish motivations. He sunk lower and lower as this had to give, culminating in outright self-destruction when he had assimilated Helen's curses into his own body. But, through her efforts to divert an attempt on his own existence and the persistence of many around him, he eventually came to a flash of clarity, that his virtue is not outright negated by a simple selfish desire. It's human to want things for one's self, especially if it is something as fundamental as love.

But with that accepted, he began to see how easy it was to slip into a virtueless existence, attempting to simply destroy enemies regardless of sacrifice. As he saw the depths of his failures to succumb when he thought he was complete, he pushed himself to be better, to meet the adversity at no one else's cost. And when met with a world who did not feel the same, that would gladly sacrifice that around it to achieve a goal that may not even be for anything's sake at all, he only saw one option. To push what he had learned onto it.

Powers and Abilities:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Martial Arts (Although not often used, Gal does have a proficiency in Karate), Extrasensory Perception (Capable of detecting the Energeia of beings around him, getting a grasp on their level of power, distance and physical state), Light Manipulation (Gal is a user of the light Aurament, which allows him to use beams of light against his opponents, as well as refract and nullify light beams used against him), Limited Gravity Manipulation (Can use gravity to bend light, allowing him to home his attacks on enemies otherwise capable of defending against it), Non-Physical Interaction (Was capable of nearly obliterating The Mad Dog, despite them being entirely comprised of Darkness. Energeia in general is capable of interacting with more spiritual and elemental beings), Reactive Evolution (Those who possess Energeia can grow acclimated to and develop resistance to adverse effects on their being, as well as dramatically leap in strength in response to the attacks of a more powerful opponent), Healing (Capable of using Energeia to heal wounds), Explosion Manipulation (His light attacks regularly hit with enough intensity to cause massive explosions. Smite transfers an excessive level of light into an opponent's body, causing it to rapidly accumulate heat to the point of exploding from the inside), Fate Manipulation and Statistics Amplification (Under the right circumstances, is capable of performing Resonance, where one "yanks at the chains of fate" and summons a power dramatically beyond what they would otherwise possess), Resistance to Ice Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, Power Nullification and Mind Manipulation (Capable of withstanding Donovan's Ice of Hel, which was freezing his soul, thoughts and would have progressed to freezing his ability to use Energeia outright), Possession (The Mad Dog was unable to completely subsume Gal's essence), Petrification (The Chimera's petrification aura was unable to effect the Energeia of the party, with it's ability to entrap people in crystal being outright blown away with a blast from Gal), Vector Manipulation (Was capable of withstanding the Svectral's Vector of Despair, which directly used their ability to control vectors to attempt to rip his body, mind and soul in every possible direction at once. His attacks were capable of directly overpowering their ability to manipulate vectors), various others (Aether-Rarefaction is capable of responding to nearly every ability within the verse provided the user is powerful enough, including a vast array that Gal was not personally forced to encounter)

Same as before to far greater extent, along with abilities of Fen as a human, Statistics Amplification (Capable of using Black Blood, flooding his blood vessels with darkness to increase his body's durability and strength), Absorption (Was able to absorb a notable amount of Helen's corruption via Darkness, as well as absorb Fen's essence entirely. Absorbed an immense level of Chaos, overcoming it's disassembly effect to stockpile it's power until he was able to pierce through Genesis' End), Existence Erasure (Absorbed the ability to produce Hellfire from Helen, which burns whatever it touches to a non existence across every point in time. Even things tangentially related to a given target, such as duplications, portraits or the true forms of those ascending to godhood are burnt away shortly after contact), Absorption and Regeneration Negation (Up to Low-Mid, Despite their status as a Dryad allowing them to freely absorb light and regenerate from it, Gal was able to severely wound Helen with a Sun of Dusk), Resistance to Curse Manipulation and Pain Manipulation (Was capable of withstanding Helen's "Pains of Hell", which compressed the equivalent of 106 trillion years of torture on his body and soul into a few seconds), Corruption (Helen's negativity was unable to properly corrupt Gal for a prolonged period), Biological Manipulation (Was capable of withstanding Anti-Restore Sorcery, which inverts the process of healing to cause rapid decay in those it targets), Energy Manipulation and Power Modification (Briefly withstood Symphony of the Antithesis, which would have caused "the very essence of his Auraments" to go violently out of control), Deconstruction (Survived consuming an enormous amount of Chaos, which deconstructs any Energeia it touches into it's barest components and sends it to the Abyss)

Same as before minus Existence Erasure (Completely exhausted Helen's stockpile of negativity in the fight with Alhazred), enhanced Extrasensory Perception (Was able to detect the distortions of a Nidhogg attempting to burrow into reality long before they actually managed to enter his plane of existence. Was nearly capable of pinpointing Azure's location amidst the Dragon King's palace, discerning "water from water" in the process, though his focus was disrupted by detecting Orianna first), Soul, Mind and Conceptual attacks (At this point of power, every attack of Energeia is capable of causing extreme damage to the existences of those they hit, stretching beyond their bodies and into more abstract forms. Nearly prevented Raymond from going to the underworld due to the sheer damage upon his essence), Danmaku (Capable of rapidly firing a barrage of lasers from each finger, enough to be compared to outright "auramental artillery"), Durability Negation (Capable of using Darkness' property of corruption to cause internal damage to opponents, ripping open their blood vessels or vital organs), Weapon Creation (Capable of using Photon and Aphotoncalibur, generating blades of light and darkness respectively), Flight (Capable of creating wings of light and darkness for rapid bursts of airborne momentum), enhanced Regeneration Negation (up to High-Godly, was able to kill Goldenia for several days despite a fairy's innate ability to regenerate from their concept being destroyed), Damage Boost and Pressure Points (Can use the primordial form of light known as "Purification" or "Revelation", which pierces through the foreign and unknown to reveal a path through enemy abilities and completely purge unnatural elements and entities), Void Manipulation (Can use the primordial form of darkness known as "Void", corrupting what it touches until it's very form is lost, being compared to "aborting the creation of the world"), enhanced Absorption Negation (Primordial properties are capable of damaging Nidhoggs and powerful beasts of chaos, which otherwise simply absorb Energeia upon contact), Resistance to Conceptual Manipulation (Can survive attacks against equal opponents), Gravity Manipulation and Resistance Negation (Withstood a multi-layered gravity sorcery, which would have made their resistances "useless" if they did not refine a multi-layered defense in response), Subjective Reality, Dream and Spatial Manipulation (Was capable of withstanding Goldenia's ability to bring the dream world upon reality, causing "ripples in space" as it was directly turned upon him), Absorption (Was capable of still using his Energeia to some degree while covered in the Reaper Spider Queen's webs, which absorbed Raymond's Energeia at a rate that prevented him from using Auraments whatsoever and outright killed several Undine), Antimatter Manipulation (Survived a blast from the Foreign Aurament, the natural antithesis to conventional Energeia that causes a violent explosion as a result)

Same as before to a far greater extent, Deconstruction (Attacks using Chaos provoke an effect known as "Disassembly", where every component of their Energeia is ripped to it's basest components and sent to the Abyss), Reactive Evolution Negation (Chaos near entirely prevents Aether-Rarefaction, with Gal in particular being unable to adapt to and overcome it through a month-long coma), Information Analysis (Capable of detecting the faultlines of creation via his connection to Chaos, being able to discern that the Ampersand clone was coming apart as well as faultlines in Goldenia's dream world.), Spatial Manipulation (Capable of ripping open holes in the fabric of reality to enter chaotic domains or send enemies and their attacks directly to the Abyss. Capable of distorting and opening holes in Realm Creation Sorcery, even being implied to do so to Aura Testament given enough time. Attacked from "impossible directions" with chaos in direct response to being swarmed with projectiles emerging from portals surrounding him.), Summoning (Able to call forth Beasts of Chaos, primarily The Mad Dog), Probability and Fate Manipulation (Reality Crippling and Pathway Amalgamation are capable of directly tampering with the flow of fate, breaking down or adding artificial branches from certain actions), Power Nullification (Reality Crippling is capable of severing a user's connection to specific abilities, preventing their use even if the ability itself is too overwhelming to neutralize), Resistance to Information Manipulation and Statistics Reduction (Despite Information Sorcery being repeatedly cast upon him by several imperial sorcerers throughout the raid on the Labs, it only briefly reduced his combat capabilities, and failed to effect his Energeia affinity), Death Manipulation, Matter Manipulation and BFR (Withstood a horde of Chimeras simultaneously casting a Curse of Death's Scythe so potent that Gen-Particles, the components that make up Energeia and thus all forms of matter, were being dragged into the Land of the Dead), Damage Transferal (Survived Trevas-Terras: Shattering Moon, where an image of a world was displayed within the eyes of those in range and shatters into countless shards, reflecting the damage across a target's body), Void Manipulation (Briefly withstood the White Aurament, the element of nothingness so fundamental that Chaos had difficulty disassembling it), conventional Law Manipulation (His body is a microcosm of Chaos, asserting a boundary against creation that allows it to function upon it's own laws. WOG states this would have made him immune to the Artifical Aurizen's capacity to use Order Sorcery upon him), Mind Manipulation (On top of his innate ability to withstand alterations to his mind, Chaos violently retaliates against any psychic invaders), Power Mimicry (Doppels are completely incapable of replicating Chaos, despite being the utmost in Imperial technology and able to replicate nearly every Aurament)

Attack Potency: Large Mountain level (Superior to Svectral, who created a pocket dimension containing a mountain comparable in size to Olympus), Large Island level via Resonance | Large Island level+ (Equal in sheer power to Wu of the Cat's Eye, who fistfought Dragnar for an extended period despite his mere aura having comparable power to Gal's resonance), Country level with Absorption (By absorbing an immense amount of chaos, was able to punch through Alhazred's Genesis End and destroy the altar fueling the Ritual of Rebirth, which was moments away from sending the entire Kingdom of Lucasta into the Abyss) | Country level (Vaporized the Death's Maw attack with the help of Lilah and Raymond) | Large Star level (The strongest of the main party. Capable of fighting Siren in alternative scenarios, who was absorbing the sun into her new world and was stated by WOG to, albeit slowly, be capable of overpowering all 6 Aurizens to create her new world, including the Aurizen of Fire who created and maintains the Sun)

Speed: Relativistic (Kept up with Donovan, who was able to dodge his light beams), Speed of Light via light beams | Relativistic+ (Far faster then before, has a roughly equivalent level of speed to The Warrior of Ash, who was compared to Gal's light sorcery directly), Speed of Light via light beams and darkness | At least Relativistic+, Speed of Light via light beams and darkness | Massively FTL+ (Was capable of reacting to an arrow of light teleporting a nanometer way from his eye)

Lifting Strength: Class T (Comparable in strength to Nephthys Serpens) | At least Class T (Far stronger then before) | Class P (Stronger than Azure, who held back the Death's Maw's attack) | At least Class Z (WOG compares the endgame party's power to Sephira Lechaos, who casually lifted an entire tectonic plate to the cloud layer)

Striking Strength: Large Mountain level | Large Island level+ | Country level | Large Star level

Durability: Large Mountain level | Large Island level+ | Country level | Large Star level

Stamina: Superhuman (Despite being forced into a constant state of consciousness by Fen for several days, still was in proper condition to fight Donovan the Cryophoenix and the Chimera consecutively. Even after the backlash of absorbing Chaos sent him into a 13 day long coma, and using his Energeia whatsoever provoked more pain than Helen's "The Pains of Hell", was still capable of walking and holding his ground against Gabriel, who promptly severed his arm and hit his back hard enough to crack his bones. Even after that, still maintained consciousness until struck by an outright lightning bolt by Siren.)

Range: Standard Melee Range normally, Up to Kilometers via Energeia attacks (Some sorceries go out as far as the eye can see, and Gal's energeia is comparable. His Sun of Dawn traveled to a mountain on the horizon before stopping), Interdimensional with Spatial manipulation (Capable of tearing holes to the Abyss, which lies outside conventional creation)

Standard Equipment: A Orphic Egg, a medallion representing his balance between Light and Darkness. After Castle Chaos, it bloomed in full, presenting a Raven and Phoenix in harmony with each other.

Standard Tactics: Gal's primary approach comes at a range, blasting enemies with lasers, and if they dodge those, utilizing his Gravity sorcery to redirect said lasers into hitting them regardless. Should that not incapacitate their opponent in short order, they're known to close the distance and use Smite. Should that be impractical and there's still a requirement for higher caliber firepower, Gal is quick to use more severe attacks such as Sun of Dawn, Photoncalibur or even Genesis End. If an opponent engages him in melee or he's unable to use his offensive sorceries for some other reason, he's also glad to employ his martial arts in direct retaliation.

Intelligence: Genius (Greatly experienced in the art of Energeia, to the point he is able to self-teach himself sorceries that normally take up to years of formal training to accomplish, such as the Lasray sorcery of Sirius. Similarly able to invent new sorceries via manipulating his Energeia, creating techniques such as his Solar Heart or Black Blood on the fly. He also possesses a similar level of proficiency in more conventional martial combat, learned from a master that actively refused to properly cooperate until nearing the end of his training. Capable of somewhat matching the likes of Ampersand's clone and Francesca, the former of whom could instantly form hundreds of sorceries within her mind and discern the nature of Francesca's UniquA on sheer intuition, and the latter of whom was capable of sending a shockwave that deflected off nearly every building within a city, causing untold devastation despite an inability use Energeia at the time)

Weaknesses: His encounter with Fen and the subsequent public execution he witnessed weighs heavily on Gal's psyche, making his force of will noticeably weak. Unwilling to use Smite on humans, as the messy aftermath exemplifies this to an extreme degree. | His ability to use Hellfire is in a fairly finite supply, burning down to only 5 charges after a few skirmishes of moderate use against Alhazred. Holding the capacity to produce Hellfire makes him vulnerable to Holy attacks. | Emotionally unstable due to a series of losses and being deceptively overwhelmed with the psychological bleedthrough of Fen. Drives him to bursts of reckless abandon, which lead to him to using Genesis' End on an opponent more than primed to counter it, which inevitably cost Raymond his life. Often overestimates his own physical limitations due to his sense of pain being distorted from the Pains of Hell curse, leading to him fighting until he is physically incapable of doing so without healing. | Overuse of Chaos causes it to creep upon his ego, potentially entirely consuming it. Reality Crippling and Pathway Amalgamation are particularly demanding in this regard.

Notable Attacks/Techniques[]

Castle Chaos[]

  • Beam: Gal's personalized incarnation of the Lasray sorcery of Sirius, which he can control in size to be as thin as a centimeter, or over a meter thick for sheer coverage. By Dominion Odyssey, these can be fired from each fingertip, allowing him to create a hail of attacks on short notice.
  • Bending: A minor gravity sorcery that Gal created after hearing the more esoteric properties of light's interaction with the world, allowing him to bend his lasers entirely at will.
  • Refraction: By merging his raw proficiency over Light and his Gravity manipulation, Gal is capable of outright refracting light, dispersing it to nothing or redirecting multiple lasers into a single point.
  • Smite: By putting light inside a target instead of attacking externally, the heat generated inside of their bodies will cause them to outright explode. Requires point blank range, and during Castle Chaos, Gal had an extreme adversion to the potential bloody aftermath upon a human target.
  • Healing: An ability repeatedly used upon him by his Master until Gal eventually learned it for himself, allowing him to pave over people's wounds via converting his Energeia into flesh, blood and bone
  • Solar Heart: A technique made on a whim in response to Donovan attempting to freeze his heart. Similarly to Smite, he rapidly heats his own body, countering freezing with enough ferocity to generate an outright explosion. While that doesn't cause internal damage, sustaining this effect will boil Gal's own blood, making it more an emergency countermeasure than a sustainable state.
  • The Sun of Dusk/Dawn: One of Gal's most powerful attacks, used in cases where he needs to inflict mass destruction on a given target. First, light erupts from every part of Gal's body, before projecting it from himself spherical formation and launching towards the enemy, incinerating and then promptly causing a massive explosion.
  • Shadow restraint: A technique first used by Mad Dog taking control of Gal's Energia, which is capable of making strands of shadow lock a target into place.
  • Black Blood: First a curse induced by his Dark Energeia fighting against him, it shortly became a boon, constantly enhancing his physical abilities and defenses.
  • Moon of Pain: A inverse of The Sun of Dawn, where instead of light, it takes the form of a giant ball of darkness. In the final battle against Alhazred, he used this in conjunction with an immense amount of Chaos to overpower her and finally end the Ritual of Rebirth.

Dominion Odyssey[]

  • Dark Arm: After having his arm completely severed by Gabriel's UniquA, Gal had to make do using a prosthetic made of Dark Energeia. He can use it to corrupt whatever he touches on contact, and can morph it at will to grow larger, turn fingers into the formation of claws, or otherwise change it's shape to his whims.
  • Internal striking: If Gal manages to get Dark Energeia into someone's body, he can easily use it to corrupt vital components such as blood vessels and organs and promptly tear them open. This can also be used in conjunction with his Lasray sorcery, merging darkness with a beam of light to fire and inflict some corruption at a distance.
  • Photoncalbur and Aphotoncalbur: A mimicry of Crescentia C. Alhazred's sorcery, coming in the form of a blade of light, followed by a blade of pitch black. Both weapons are thrown into the enemy, one after the other, and then violently explode after piercing the target.
  • Genesis' End and Anti-Genesis: A mimicry of Crescentia C. Alhazred's ultimate sorcery, which releases an all encompassing blast of light with the utmost levels of his power. While he can also manifest a version of darkness, he only used this chain of abilities once, due to it's lengthy chargetime causing dire consequences in the battle against the Reaper Spider Queen.
  • Spatial Tearing: An ability of Chaos which Gal recalled from his battle with Alhazred, allowing him to create portals to the abyss with his bare hands. This can primarily be used to neutralize attacks and Realm Creation Sorcery, and even allows Gal to create a portal to the abyss completely around his body.
  • Reality Crippling and Pathway Amalgamation: One of the most powerful abilities of Chaos, allowing Gal to alter the course of fate. Reality Crippling is capable of destroying the paths to specific outcomes, down to preventing certain actions from being performed whatsoever. Pathway Amalgamation in turn creates new possibilities from what is already present, making way to victories where every outcome would otherwise lead to defeat.
