“ | I'm NOT some perfect saint. I'm a mess. I just... pretend to be nice, because it benefits me. 'Cause I wanna be 'loved'. The truth is, I'm... honestly pretty selfish. But just 'cause I'm selfish doesn't mean I'm stupid. You're one of the nicest people I've ever met. You're the first adult to look at me and actually CARE... You're important. And whatever you did before... You've obviously done everything you can to make up for it. ...It makes me think there's hope for me, too. | „ |
~ Frisk, Part 5A |
“ | Flowey's gonna flip, but so what? It'd be nice to settle down for a while. No random fights, and at least here I'm with people who care. One more day isn't gonna kill him. | „ |
~ Frisk, Part 10 |
“ | I know. I should run away. It'd be safer, right? I could just hide in Snowdin for the rest of my life... You wouldn't have to hurt anybody. You could pretend we were never here. ...That's what you want, right? I get it. Sometimes it's easier to just run. That was me every day for the longest time... (...) Nobody said it'd be easy, but Alphys... Burying your feelings NEVER helps, and if you run... You'll never know if your fears are justified. You'll never get closure... Just a buncha regrets. The fear won't go away, but you've got people who support you, y'know? And I'd like to be one of 'em... if you let me. | „ |
~ Frisk, Part 26 |
“ | With or without her, I was gonna carry out my plan. And now I was even more desperate for someone to care. For SOMEONE, anyone, to take me away from this hellish life... Heh... but I never expected that someone to be a talking skeleton. But here we are. You've put up with me, even in the face of all my screw ups. Heh... it's funny, but when you're here, my nice kid routine doesn't feel that much like an act. The smiles, everything... I don't feel like I have to phone it in. | „ |
~ Frisk, Part 38 |
“ | Don't you GET it, Papyrus? I'm not a good person! I just... I just ACT like one. | „ |
~ Frisk, Part 21 |
Summary[]
Frisk is the protagonist of Inverted Fate and the eighth human to fall into the Underground. They were abandoned by their birth parents at a young age, and grew up in an orphanage, and while the caretakers were far from abusive, the knowledge that they were more or less unwanted coupled with the sheer number of other kids left them feeling overlooked and invisible. They tried very hard to stand out, but it never felt like it was enough. There was only one constant in their life, and that was their friend, Lilac.
Lilac was kind, caring, thoughtful friend. She somehow managed to stay smiling through the "bad times", which served as the basis for Frisk's "Cool Kid" persona. They roped Lilac into their escapades, often sneaking out of the orphanage to get into all sorts of mischief, such as stealing snacks from nearby stores and asking strangers off the streets to adopt them. These antics gave Frisk the reputation of a "problem child."
Eventually, Frisk got fed up. They left to climb Mt. Ebott with Lilac, believing that if they were to "disappear," their faces would end everywhere. But later on, Lilac got cold feet, fearing for their lives and believing that there were better ways to get adopted. This however outraged Frisk and made them lash out, punching the girl and sending her tumbling off a small cliff. The injuries she sustained were severe, but not fatal and Frisk never got a chance to apologize.
From that day onwards, Frisk has dreaded fighting. Moreover, they’ve adapted a rather negative self-image. They act cheerful, optimistic, and are very snarky and flirtatious, but it's clear that this is a front to hide their self-loathing. Feigning optimism in hopes that people would forget their screw up and maybe they’d stop being so overlooked.
But when that failed on the surface, they ran back to Ebott. To finish their plan, no matter the risks.
The Underground was the best thing to ever happen to them. There they found monsters who genuinely cared, formed friendships, and began to overcome their personal problems through their struggles and connections with others. They didn't do it perfectly the first time, though. Eventually they defeated and spared Flowey, and were well on their way to the Pacifist ending, until Asriel triggered his second form. Ultimately, he managed to kill them, preparing to take their SOUL.
Their SOUL did not refuse.
The timeline reset. However, something went wrong in the process, and the Lost Soul's fates were inverted, while Flowey himself found himself without his powers. Frisk forgot the adventure they had before, save for vague deja vu. They came to the mountain just as they had before, and so the story began anew
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Frisk is a relatively short and scrawny teenager with messy, medium-length, brown hair. Frisk usually squints due to their myopia, giving them their trademark closed-eye look, though there are times when their eyes will open wider, revealing perfectly normal, brown eyes. Their skin is commonly depicted as yellow in their sprites, but canonically they have a tan skin color. Their outfits change as they progress through the story.
Back on the Surface and in the Ruins, their clothing of choice is a slightly worn, blue long-sleeved shirt with magenta colored stripes, along with blue pants and brown shoes.
In Snowdin, they wore a purple hoodie with fuzzy trim, a matching purple beanie, black mittens and snow boots, and tan snow pants.
In Waterfall, Frisk wears one of Sans' hooded jackets and a a "bonedanna" to disguise the fact that they're a human. They also don a pink, padded T-shirt from Papyrus that says COOL KID in white letters under their disguise.
Due to Hotland's harsh climate, Frisk decided to ditch their bandanna, hoodie, snow pants, and boots in favor of shorts and sneakers. They however chose to keep their Cool Kid shirt.
Personality[]
Frisk is given a proper character in this comic, compared to the mostly blank slate they were in the original game.
Frisk tries their hardest to seem friendly, outgoing, cool, and confident. When meeting strangers, they try their best to put their best foot forward, eager to make friends and a positive impression. They enjoy making sassy quips (usually bad puns), can be a bit of a smartass, but are far from the mean-spirited sort. Their teasing comes from a place of caring, as does their flirting. And yes, this little dork can be quite the little Casanova.
They’re naturally curious, which drives them to poke around new places and things, even if it means observing every. Last. Snowpoff, or pulling strange crayon drawings after suspiciously placed cameras. This also leads to them being somewhat nosy and just a little suspicious at times. For as friendly as they seem, they aren’t stupid or naive, and they WILL call people out on behavior they find shifty… well, generally speaking.
See, like Papyrus, Frisk is riddled with insecurities. They want to feel important. Significant. They want to be noticed and loved. This leaves them wide open to manipulate under the right circumstances. Play to those insecurities, hit them at their absolute lowest moments, and their guard drops. Frisk has this habit of denial when they believe that things are going their way. Flowey promises a chance to free monsterkind and become a hero? Despite some mild frustrations and doubts, Frisk denies any possibility that Flowey is lying. Sans is a high ranking royal guard who by all means could kill them? Impossible! He’s done everything in his power to protect them, is a fun, laid back guy, why would he ever hurt them? He cares.
And that’s the thing. This Frisk… is kind of selfish, though they truly wish they weren’t. For as much as they care about others, they want to be cared for in return, which makes them quick to latch onto genuine kindness. They know that this is self-centered, and frankly, their own self-image is steeped in pessimism that has only grown since leaving the Ruins and being treated with so much hostility by the average monster.
And while they are pacifistic overall, once they’re set off, they can be grouchy, mean, and downright bull-headed. And should their cheerful facade break and they hit their lowest points, it can be difficult to pull them out of their slumps. Frisk worries. Frisk has trouble letting go of their screw-ups. They internalize again and again, try to hide their less than favorable characteristics and weaknesses.
Basically, this kid has issues, and where Papyrus is an optimist, Frisk is a pessimist pretending to be optimistic. But, hey, it’s an act that’s gotten them this far.
Powers and Stats[]
Tier: Varies, 9-B normally, 8-C with great amounts of Determination, 7-C with immense amounts of Determination
Name: Frisk, The Human (By most monsters)
Origin: Inverted Fate
Gender: Non-binary
Age: 12-13
Classification: Human child, Self-proclaimed hero
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Reactive Power Level, Multiple Selves (Type 2; Chara SOUL's remains amalgamted with Frisk's, which made them a mere a voice in Frisk's head. They also feel every physical sensation that Frisk feels, and have been able to take control of them a few times, though they try to limit it[1][2][3]), Supernatural Willpower (Their Determination grants them their powers and most superhuman stats), Immortality (Type 4 normally, Types 2 and 7 after dying; Can normally resurrect as a shattered SOUL by LOADing[4]), Longevity for their SOUL (A human's SOUL can exist for millennia), Social Influencing, Acrobatics (Demonstrated here.[5] Can leap into the air, perform a flip and land perfectly on their feet[6]), Limited Acausality (Type 1; Capable of keeping memories of reset events, although other factors such as their increase in strength or damage they sustained will be lost. With their "control over the timeline"/Time Manipulation matched, repeated deaths make their grip in the timeline slip away, which can eventually result in them forgetting everything experienced little by little), Time Manipulation (Has the ability to SAVE into a point in time when particularly determined, and LOAD back in time to the last SAVE they made at will,[7] even after dying[4]), Information Analysis (Via Check; Frisk can figure out the stats of an opponent and even their emotional state in some cases just by looking at them), Healing (Can recover physical[8] and spiritual damage by eating certain types of monster food), Limited Invulnerability (Become invulnerable for a few seconds after being hit by an attack), Sleep Manipulation with Sing[9], Creation with Draw[10], Resistance to SOUL Manipulation (Can take SOUL attacks as physical ones), Electricity (Survived being electrocuted underwater[3]), Extreme Heat (Can survive in Hotland, which can reach temperatures high enough to vaporize a styrofoam cup and water instantly) and possibly Poison Manipulation (The CORE seems to be filled with ozone, which Frisk was unaffected by). Resistance to Fire and Magma with The Blazing Badge[11]
Camouflage (Via B.A.R.E.L[9]), Dimensional Storage (Has two Dimensional Boxes[11]), Flight (With their Jet-Pack[11]), Afterimage Creation (Can leave brief afterimages while dashing with their Jet-Pack[12]), Energy Projection (Is able to transform their phone into an arm cannon[3]), Limited Invulnerability (Via Orange Mode[13]). The Season Dudes' Microchips grant them: Leaf Manipulation (Via Leaf Barrage[3]), Ice Manipulation (Via Frost Shovel[14]), Water Manipulation (Via Water Sprout[15]), Solar Energy Projection (Via Solar Flare), Energy Absorption and Reflection (Via Charge Beam[16])
Attack Potency: Varies. Wall level normally (While not "the fighting type", has an attack value of 13, putting them on par with the majority of the Canine Unit), Building level+ when filled with great amounts of Determination (Capable of harming Toriel with their blows.[13] One-shot Undyne, however having colossal killing intent made the former more vulnerable[16]), Town level with immense amounts of Determination (The full power of a human SOUL rivals the entire Underground.[17] Frisk and Chara’s combined SOUL is just shy of two full human SOULS worth of power as a result of it being an amalgamated SOUL)
Speed: Subsonic+ (Could dodge Greater Dog's barks at these speeds), up to Massively Hypersonic+ with higher levels of Determination (Can keep up with Toriel and Undyne), able to move even faster by drinking Sea Tea
Lifting Strength: Peak Human (Able to push large rocks[18])
Striking Strength: Wall level normally, Building level+ when filled with great amounts of Determination, potentially Town level with immense amounts of Determination
Durability: Wall level normally (Should be comparable to Chara as a normal child who could survive an extremely lengthy fall into the underground face first. Has a defense value of 15, putting them on par with the majority of the Canine Unit), Building level+ when filled with great amounts of Determination (Can take hits from Undyne[16] and Toriel[13]), Town level with immense amounts of Determination (Kept up with and took many hits from the The Determinator[16])
Stamina: Athletic (Can have long battles with Sans, Captain Alphys, Mad Mew Mew, and Undyne without slowing down. Noted to be in decent shape[19])
Range: Standard melee range, several meters with their arm cannon
Standard Equipment: Cell Phone, Stick and Bandage, Faded Ribbon, Tough Glove and Manly Bandanna, Torn Notebook and Cloudy Glasses, Hot Leg and Various Food Items.
Intelligence: Above Average (Can calm down even the most violent enemies. Thwarted all of Papyrus and Sans' puzzles. Infiltrated Fort Aquarius with its heavy security)
Weaknesses: Frisk has a case of myopia/nearsightedness, presumably on the weaker side of the spectrum, since they still have some of their eyesight. While extremely difficult, sufficient failure can make a user of Determination give up, though this can result in a Reset much earlier than the last SAVE. Someone with equal and higher amounts of Determination will result in their ability to SAVE and LOAD being disabled
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
Techniques
- DETERMINATION: The source of their power and abilities. The user is empowered by the feeling of determination, allowing it to strengthen their capabilities and use certain new powers.
- SAVE: When particularly determined, the user can "SAVE" the current moment in time, filling a file inside the game with information about their current process, LV, etc. A user may create a SAVE when really wanting to anywhere, finding the yellow flash shown in-game isn't necessary. Someone else with the same use of DETERMINATION and higher determination will result in this ability to SAVE being disabled from Frisk.
- LOAD: Turns back time to the last SAVE made. This can even be used after dying, which usually results in having one's SOUL shattering into pieces. Another user of DETERMINATION, Flowey, could LOAD after dying despite lacking a SOUL altogether. Someone with the same use of DETERMINATION and higher determination will result in this ability to LOAD being disabled from Frisk.
- Reset: Turns back time to the beginning of the game.
- True Reset: As before, but overpowering certain characters' ability to remember events after being reset.
- Reset: Turns back time to the beginning of the game.
- Check: Frisk is able to "check" how strong their opponent are in stats, as well as basic information about them. This ability was inherited from Chara's Soul being stuck to theirs and they lose it when Chara is permanently separated from them.
- Hope: Frisk holds onto their hope for the future, significantly raising their defense. This technique was even capable of reducing damage from Asriel. Only usable if their DETERMINATION is high enough.
- Dream: Through sheer willpower and DETERMINATION, Frisk's dreams become a reality. Capable of fully healing them of all damage and negative effects. Only usable if their DETERMINATION is high enough.
Items
- Cell Phone: Frisk was given a Cell Phone by Asgore in order to call him, later Papyrus upgraded their phone adding several features, such as stealth camouflage, a highly advanced real-time communications system and a jetpack.
- SOUL Manipulation: Blue Mode: Ever since the CORE arc, Frisk is able to transform their phone into an arm cannon during certain encounters, thus activating a variant of Blue Mode.
- P. Blaster: A simple pea-shooter. Has medium damage and no cooldown.
- Leaf Barrage: Shoots a spread of three leaves with medium cooldown and greater reach than the standard P. Blaster mode.
- Frost Shovel: A growing snow shooter which is shot in an arc, sloping up and then dropping down. It has short cooldown and it's damage varies base on the snowball's size.
- Water Spout: A water shooter which shoots in a straight line, with low damage.
- Charge Beam: Charges shots. Damage and size depends on how long the shot is charged.
- Solar Flare: A solar ray with low damage. Unlike Water Spout, vertical height moves with the SOUL in the playable battles.
- SOUL Manipulation: Charge Mode: After collecting all four chips from The Season Dudes, Frisk is able to transform their phone into a Charge Beam, represented by their SOUL turning upside down. This SOUL Mode activates after Frisk presses a button on their phone and is used against the Determinator. In this mode, they can press X while blocking a spear to collect charge. When enough charge is collected, the top part of the SOUL opens and fires a beam. The type of beam and any special effects depend on the type of spears blocked to charge it.
- SOUL Manipulation: Blue Mode: Ever since the CORE arc, Frisk is able to transform their phone into an arm cannon during certain encounters, thus activating a variant of Blue Mode.
- SOUL Manipulation: Orange Mode: While orange, Frisk can rush in any direction by pressing Z, granting them temporary invincibility and allowing them to move through the flames. Orange mode is activated in the Toriel fight through the phone upgrades Papyrus gave Frisk.
- Stick and Bandage: A stick that does very little damage, but can be thrown in some cases for minor uses. While the bandage has already been used before, Frisk can use this to regain 10 hp
- Toy Knife and Faded Ribbon: The toy knife grants Frisk a minor boost of +3 attack. The faded ribbon gives Frisk +5 defense. The ribbon supposedly makes the wearer look cute, making enemies hit with lesser force as a result
- Tough Glove and Manly Bandanna: This glove allows Frisk to hit enemies with multiple blows at a time and grants them +5 attack. The manly bandanna, which has been used many times before and has abs drawn on it, gives Frisk a +7 defense boost.
- Torn Notebook: Gives Frisk +2 Attack and +6 Invulnerability which allows Frisk to remain untouchable for a longer period of time after being hit.
- Hot Leg: This gives Frisk +8 attack as well as boosts their speed and heat resist by 10%.
- Various food items: Heals varying amounts of hp and sometimes have extra effects.
