Daicas1
I did good, do you understand me? I DID GOOD. You were parasites, for if you weren't, I would not be able to lay waste upon you like I did back then. (...) What were you? You have grown fat and weak due to constant exposure to the great cancer called peace and harmony. It is by my actions that you have gained great power, the power to lay waste upon nearly all the pathetic parasites calling themselves civilizations across all corners of Middlescape. (...) You should be thankful. You should be fit to understand the irrelevance by now, and strip away the deceptions and deliberate stalling methods you call a society. If you do not, I will beat it into you, more than I already did, and you shall die engulfed in it.
~ Daicas to Thrasel

Biography[]

Daicas, mainly known as Dicas, Penchant of the Drench, or Penchant of the Drench, is a character in Crestseal. He is one of the Penchants of Ashkalaar, Archon of Havoc alongside Spinas, Penchant of the Sharp. He is the creator of the Crimson Fleet and commanded it as its master.

Early years in Gulbea[]

Daicas is a Gulbean, born in the planet Gulbea. Like other Penchants, he is of the same people as Ashkalaar and served as one of her most trusted generals, a member of her Warband for decades, remaining loyal to her when she started to fall from grace.

As the conflict continued and the situation started to get worse and worse, Ashkalaar's position in the military continued to rise. She stood as the most capable field commander of Solbians, having never lost a battle with her Warband, a squad she gathered over the years. However, her ruthlessness and harsh behavior prevented her from getting too much support from the common people. She was capable, sure, but not kind, not even to her own people. She only held the loyalty of her small Warband whose numbers were less than two thousand, whose personalities were just like hers. Ashkalaar's capability in war wasn't about her being a better strategist or planner, but simply about her being vastly more powerful. Not only her, but her Warband was also so much more powerful than most others. They had a very simple battle plan, detect the enemy and attack as soon as they were able with overwhelming force, stomp on, and eliminate all that moved, including civilians, including allies. Her Warband was fully loyal to her and did not complain about her orders, no matter how rough. Ashkalaar was their commander, Havoc was their sole intent, and adversaries were their sole demand.

Daicas, alongside Spinas, were the strongest of the Warband and the most loyal companions of Ashkalaar. As Ashkaalar's rank started to rise, so did theirs. Once Ashkaalar became the President of Gulbea, these two became the duo that ruled the Warband in her absence. The Warband led by the duo continued to serve Ashkalaar during her reign as the President and through her self-coup, suppressing any dissent and revolt they could. Eventually, Ashkalaar's oppression of the Gulbean population led to a revolt and a civil war, which the Warband lost and its members were mostly killed and remaining imprisoned by the revolting Factions that far outnumbered them. Most imprisoned remains of the Warband were executed right away, while Daicas and Spinas were to be executed alongside Ashkalaar sometime later. They were held in the same dungeon, and even in prison, they remained loyal to her.

Ascendance to a Penchant[]

After several weeks, Ashkalaar suddenly freed herself from her prison with a burst of energy and freed Daicas along with Spinas. Daicas wondered what happened, but did not ask. Ashkalaar named the duo of Daicas and Spinas her Penchants, the ones most loyal to her and followed her, the only ones she trusted, the only ones she loved. Ashkalaar explained what she had experienced, and Daicas simply followed alongside Spinas. Ashkalaar gave them her nails which empowered them. The nail Daicas took was called Nail of Blood and Daicas was now to be called Penchant of the Drench.

Daicas became one of the two Penchants and aided Ashkalaar in her goal to bring Havoc upon both Gulbea and Solbia and render them indifferent, extinct. The Penchants of Ashkalaar continued to serve her for millions of years, bringing Havoc to all others they encountered.

As years passed, Spinas was able to develop a different method by which the Penchants could wield their power. Penchants were empowered by Ashkalaar's Nails which they had to carry in their person or swallow in their body. Spinas developed a method in which remote power drawing could be possible. He proposed that the Nails be located in Ashkalaar's Crown Palace, by which Penchants can remotely wield power and still be immortal reliant on the Nails. Ashkalaar praised Spinas, and so did Daicas, who, using the powers and the Nail of Blood he had, forged a blade he named Bloodcoated Blade. True aptitudes of this blade could only be unleashed when it was performed inside Daicas's Field Formation

Over the years, Daicas built a personal army for himself which he named the Crimson Fleet. and its members were named Fleeters. He built the army by recruiting several individuals from each planet he was ordered to bring Havoc upon. Before attacking it, he would go undercover and influence people, find suitable people who would follow him, and empower them. He usually operated on each planet long enough to recruit at least ten people and have them bring Havoc to their own homeland. Daicas used his ability to make spaceships to accumulate his Fleeters. As millions of years passed, the Crimson Fleet massively grew in number, exceeding tens of millions, Daicas delegated them to bring Havoc to more planets at once and gave a portion of them to his fellow Penchant Spinas, who could not make personal armies akin to Crimson Fleet Daicas could make.

First Calamity[]

Millions of years later, Spinas, Penchant of the Sharp, discovered one of the Voyagers in a Solar System, located near a Moon, uplifting a people known as Palovans, who have colonized their own Solar System. Upon this, Ashkalaar ordered Daicas to lead his Crimson Fleet and bring Havoc upon those Palovans, There Daicas was ordered by Ashkalaar to lead his Crimson Fleet to bring Havoc upon these Palovans and destroy that one part of the Voyager. Daicas followed suit, personally leading his troops, laying waste to unsuspecting Palovans who were completely unprepared for a war like this as they had been in peace for thousands of years. Daicas would lay waste to Palovans, slaughtering them by the millions in just a few weeks, and decimating what he called "the deception and deliberate stalling methods these Palovans call a civilization". However, the Voyager managed to flee. This was expected, as the Voyager was hard to catch. His mission was complete, or so he thought. He was not punished or reprimanded for failing to capture the Voyager by Ashkalaar.

Second Calamity[]

Centuries later, Daicas realized that one of the people he visited to bring Havoc survived his onslaught and started to thrive, that being the Palovans. This was interesting to him, as nobody ever survived him before. He wondered how they managed to survive and decided to visit them for a second time as soon as possible.

Arrival on Palova Solar System[]

Several years later, Daicas arrived with a sizeable portion of his Crimson Fleet numbering around two million Fleeters, who were nearby and could arrive quickly. The amount of Fleeters he was able to bring was less than ideal, but he launched the campaign, thinking he alone would be enough. His arrival was expected, as Talith Congregation led by Gor-Talith just formed a solid alliance with Pinnacle, the leading government of Palova, just to counter his arrival. Daicas was impressed, for he genuinely saw a proper resistance against himself this time, different than the last time he visited Palovans. He was more impressed with himself, as he believed it was because of him that Palovans were militarized like this.

Siege of Ravencrest[]

Daicas first attacked Ravencrest with a portion of his Crimson Fleet, a Palovan stronghold on Mars. He sent about three hundred thousand strong force from his Fleet. As usual, he was indiscriminate, ordering his Fleeters to kill or capture all that moved, which resulted in them attacking the remaining Swarm of the Coven on Mars who happened to stand in their way. This was quickly noticed by the Swarm, who were fewer than ten thousand and quickly aligned themselves with the Crimson Fleet during the Siege.

According to the reports, around two hundred thousand Palovans defended Ravencrest, out of which around forty thousand were Sentinels. Daicas was impressed, he believed that would be enough to defend Ravencrest given the number and quality of the Fleeters he sent there. Daicas did not send any reinforcements, as Ravencrest was not important to him, but did not recall his Fleeters either, who was at a 30% casualty rate already. He gave them the order to either take Ravencrest or die trying, which was followed by his fiercely loyal Fleeters who saw failure worse than death.

War of the Two Fronts[]

After a couple of months of inactivity, Daicas finally made his decision. He was done watching. He was to take matters into his own hands. He divided his Fleeters into two, each numbering around eight hundred thousand. He formed a Bloodself clone to himself which was in charge of one division, while he was in charge of the other. He had his clone attack the Moon while he attacked Palova, starting the War of the Two Fronts.

War of the Moon[]

Bloodself clone led the Fleeters to the Moon, only to be greeted by an overwhelming firepower immediately launched at them by the Cavil of the Moon. Cavil defenders had a considerable numerical advantage as reports indicated over four million Cavils existed on the Moon in total, with at least 30% of them being combatants, giving them both the field and number advantage. However, the average Cavil combatant was weaker than the average Fleeter, except high-ranking Cavils who could outperform most of the Fleeters there. This meant that even though Cavil defenders had a considerable advantage in numbers and terrain, the capability and power of most of them were lower than invading Fleeters, giving them the advantage in the long run and allowing him to establish a Moon stronghold and successfully defend it while launching further attacks.

Finally, Bloodself faced Gor-Talith. Bloodself was hiding his presence to avoid a confrontation against him, as a possible loss would mean his Fleeters would most likely lose. This forced Gor-Talith to fight the Fleeters and protect his non-combatant population for months rather than facing him instead. Eventually, Gor-Talith and Bloodself clashed. Despite being a clone, thus weaker than the real Daicas, he was evenly matched with Gor-Talith, battling him for several days while his remaining Fleeters fought the Cavils. As time went on, the number of capable Cavils was lessening, and Bloodself ordered several of his strongest Fleeters to aid him against Gor-Talith instead. This gave him an advantage, allowing him to severely maim Gor-Talith, crushing his arms, legs, and most of his torso in a 4-on-1 battle involving him and his strongest Fleeters. Just before he landed the killing blow, the Bloodself Method ran out and he vanished. Though he put Gor-Talith out of commission for a long while. With the Bloodself gone, the real Daicas ordered the remaining Moon Fleeters to secure the Moon.

With Gor-Talith being out of commission and Bloodself's vanishment, the remaining Fleeters kept on attacking an already badly wounded Gor-Talith to kill him for good. Without Gor-Talith, Cavil defenders soon fell into disarray, giving Fleeters a big advantage for several hours. However, suddenly, a massive explosive wave was launched from the body of Gor-Talith. The wave circled through the Moon several times, killing tens of thousands of Fleeters while doing no damage to Cavils. This killed most Fleeters who were not strong enough to endure the wave or avoid it, while the remains were heavily outnumbered by a determined and angry mob of Cavils that quickly secured the body of Gor-Talith and moved him to safety, and Moon fell into a total warzone, more than it already was. Non-combatant Cavils were trained and made into combatants, and conflict continued on the Moon.

War of Palova[]

Meanwhile, real Daicas led his troops on Palova. Palova was a much harder nut to crack. It had a larger army and Palovans who had an advantage over his Fleeters. Daicas immediately started aerial bombarding of major Palovan cities, whose powered by barriers of Simar as it is standard for many civilizations to utilize them. He led his own elite Fleeters personally, the strongest two Fleeters alongside him, and laid waste to Palovan armies he encountered while most of his Fleet was busy bombarding cities.

Thrasel vs. Daicas

After several weeks, he arrived in the Palovan city of Astrava and was immediately attacked by Thrasel Shravrek. Daicas avoided the attack, but Thrasel killed one of his elite Fleeters while severely injuring the other one. Hundreds of Palovans opened fire on Daicas as they saw him fighting Thrasel.

Daicas was fighting Thrasel while dealing with constant fire by the Palovans. He wanted to fight both Thrasel without disturbances, and given she was a Sentinel, he thought killing her required Bloodcoated Blade, so he cast his Field Formation, Blood Vault Bastion, effectively forming a separate space with his blood to isolate Thrasel where he would be free to fight her inflict permanent damage with his blade as well as launch infallible blood attacks imbued to his Field. While she was surprised and hit by the said attacks, Daicas closed in and slashed Thrasel's arm, ripping it off, quite irrecoverably for the moment.

Thrasel immediately used Warden Dissipator to mitigate the damage from infallible Field attack and engaged in close-range combat, using Chillmantle and Diminisher at once, while also using ranged attacks with Vanishslash that were quite the challenge for Daicas to see and using Gravwell to disrupt his stance whenever a distance was created between the two. Daicas' earlier attack on Thrasel made her very cautious, as he could easily damage them and his attacks could not be healed from. Daicas was worried about Chillmantle combined with Diminisher, he did not think it would be deadly as he was unaffected by an Obliteract but he was a cautious man so he did his best to avoid all of her attacks and launch counterattacks when possible.

Thrasel's ranged attacks did not pose a threat to Daicas. Still, her Gravwell made it difficult for him to adjust and land a hit on her when she was close, especially considering she was using Rapidaware to make her awareness faster and dodge Daicas' attacks. Daicas started to use Sudden Bloodshield to block her worrying attacks while focusing his power to land a hit on her. He knew Rapidaware had a cooldown time and could not be used forever, so he bid his time and kept dodging her attacks. Suddenly, Thrasel managed to land a hit on Daicas with her Windration, which sent Daicas flying. Daicas took considerable damage from Windration, prompting him to quickly activate Stifle Coating to neutralize its effects, stopping it, which shocked Thrasel. Right after this, Thrasel quickly gained composure and struck Daicas in the head with her Chillmantle, but the attack was neutralized by Stifle Coating. Daicas quickly turned around and struck Thrasel with a round cut to her chest and a kick, severely wounding him and sending him flying, and started to laugh.

"What's so funny?!" Thrasel asked

"You... Just what have you been doing in the past centuries?" Daicas replied while laughing, "Last time I came here, I laid waste upon you almost instantly, now you are well prepared!"

With this, Thrasel understood that Daicas was behind the First Calamity

Thrasel screamed "What are you? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! INFLICTING PAIN AND UNTOLD SUFFERING TO SO MANY. WHAT DO YOU GAIN?"

Daicas stopped his laugh but kept a grin, he responded "I can hear you well, you don't need to yell. Besides, I did good."

Thrasel, enraged, replied "Good? Was attacking us good? Was slaughtering us by the billions good?!"

Daicas interrupted Thrasel and said "I did good, do you understand me? I DID GOOD. You were parasites, for if you weren't, I would not be able to lay waste upon you like I did back then.

Thrasel, calmed herself down, and said "Parasites? So anyone you can destroy is a parasite? What kind of reasoning is that? We were peaceful, we had a good thing!"

Daicas interrupted again while advancing towards Thrasel, which Thrasel countered by unleashing Windration, which Daicas dodged. Daicas said "What were you? You have grown fat and weak due to constant exposure to the great cancer called peace and harmony. It is by my actions that you have gained great power, the power to lay waste upon nearly all the pathetic parasites calling themselves civilizations across all corners of Middlescape."

Thrasel did not understand what Daicas was talking about, she quickly grasped that the two had a very different way of thinking. She said "Isn't peace and harmony the goal of civilizations? Why would you want war and destruction?!" while attacking him, but Daicas managed to get close, and despite her best efforts to avoid, slashed the left side of her chest, grabbed her arm, pulled her towards himself, and smashed her to the ground, severely wounding her"

Daicas decided to bring Havoc onto Thrasel slowly, he beat her to near death. Moonstay never showed up as it believed Daicas may kill it. Daicas said "You should be thankful. You should be fit to understand the irrelevance by now, and strip away the deceptions and deliberate stalling methods you call a society. If you do not, I will beat it into you, more than I already did, and you shall die engulfed in it." while beating Thrasel, a sarcastic remark as if he was not going to kill Thrasel whether she understood him or not

As the beating stopped, Thrasel attempted to respond but failed, in turn, Daicas said "What did you refer to my first visit? A Calamity? Good name. Two times. This is the first time I have visited a civilization twice. No others I unleashed Havoc upon ever survived my visit, not even to call it a Calamity and enter into a supposed Dark Era. Did you call my current arrival Second Calamity? Good name, I was thinking the same thing. This is the Second Calamity I am bringing, and you will be done!

Daicas was done talking, he was about to deliver the final blow to obliterate Thrasel's body by decapitating her with his blade, which would kill her for good and Moonstay would not be able to revive her. Just as he unleashed his final attack, and swung his blade, a burst of energy radiated from shining Thrasel, and at the same time Daicas was punched in the chest, opening a hole through it

Daicas did not understand what just happened. He was about to kill her, yet she returned. Thrasel was still injured, she did not heal, but somehow was able to not only move but injure him. The two engaged in close-range combat where Thrasel was consistently superior, avoiding all of Daicas' attacks that would be deadly and inflicting severe damage. Thrasel did not understand what was going on with her either, but she pushed on and did her best to overcome Daicas once and for all. Eventually, Thrasel started to overwhelm Daicas. As the duel continued, Daicas stopped maintaining his Stifle Coating and fully focused on attempting to land a decisive strike with his Blade, he targeted Thrasel's head or neck to finish it as soon as possible. However, as the battle continued, Thrasel was the first one to find a proper opening and struck Daicas' head with her Windration. Daicas could not anticipate that Thrasel could use Windration at close range while making contact, and his head dusted away before he could once more neutralize it with Stifle Coating. As the remains of Daicas started to vibrate into dust, Thrasel also activated Diminisher so it would be a permanent death for him.

As Daicas died, Thrasel grabbed his dust and said "What more will fall upon us? Darkness, doom in every corner. Do you think we would yield?! Do you think we would cry and scream as we fall into nothingness and vanish? Not at all! The will of Palovans is to endure and rise again and again. We endured one Calamity, you did not let us live, we endured on our own! You said you came to finish your job, to bring a second Calamity, the fact is you ended up bringing it upon yourself!

With the death of Daicas, the remains of his Fleeters were aimless. Many Fleeters retreated to the Moon, unified by the call of one powerful Fleeter who had taken de-facto control among the Moon Fleeters. He filled the power vacuum. They aimed to defend their gains on the Moon, withdrawing from Palova.

For these individuals, the thought of moving is the same as moving itself, and there is no delay between the mind and the body. This allows them to perform hundreds of rapid jumps and flips both in-ground and in the air, move through any terrain and glide in the air with maximum efficiency, move in a way that is not affected by air friction to perform instant full-speed movement without acceleration, and move in a way that makes no sound. They can also innately react to any incoming attack by dodging and launching a counterattack, even when no longer alive or conscious
