Above all else, always be cautious. While we can record the general abilities of a Crimson Phantasm, their ability to change forms and seemingly unlimited ways to manifest it make every encounter have the potential to be a new beast. The greatest wisdom is knowing that we don't truly know anything about where a Crimson Phantasm's danger can end, and to be prepared for any form of attack to be performed.
~ Excerpt from official anti-Phantasm engagement tactics

Summary[]

The fighting force of the Piece of Death, which serves as the main antagonistic force of ALSAN: Man Against the End. They're a race of giant constructs formed from human souls puppeteered by the Piece of Death's power, forced to kill as many humans as possible via their mere presence in order to eventually wipe out the entire species. When this seemed at the precipice of becoming significantly more complicated due to the advent of colony ships, the Endbringer was formed, a massive meteor of phantasmal flesh that would crash into the earth and destroy the seal keeping the Piece of Death debased.

Powers and Stats[]

Tier: Varies from 8-C to 8-A | Low 7-C, 7-C via Self-Destruction | 5-C, Low 2-C via Environmental Destruction

Key: Standard Phantasms/Corrupted ALSANs | Supermassives | The Endbringer

Name: True identity varies depending on the individual, referred to collectively as Crimson Phantasms or simply "Phantasms"

Origin: ALSAN

Gender: Varies spiritually, inapplicable physically (Phantasms possess no sexual characteristics)

Age: Varies spiritually, up to 6 days physically (Most Phantasms are incredibly short lived, with the Endbringer taking this amount of time to travel to earth)

Classification: Undead soul amalgamations

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Large Size (Type 0-1, Most Phantasms range from approximately 20 to 40 meters in height. Phantasms defending the interior of the Endbringer were significantly smaller, with the likes of 4 meter long rats[1]), Immortality (Type 1, 3 and 7, is a construct of "dead, but not rotting" flesh, animated by an amalgamation of souls[2]), Regeneration (Mid, capable of easily regenerating from the removal of their limbs,[3] destruction of their head,[4] and virtually any other form of harm provided their core remains stable), Shapeshifting (Phantasms are capable of altering their body to various degrees,[5] stretching and repurposing their limbs or even growing new attributes as needed[3]), Danmaku (Capable of generating abscesses and sores that fire off fleshy projectiles en-masse, some Phantasms are capable of matching most of the ordinance of the Ox Gargoyle's firepower[6]), Extrasensory Perception (Capable of intuitively detecting the greatest source of life in their proximity, and can use this to detect the general direction of strong opponents such as Drivers without any other sense[5]), Life Absorption (Phantasms passively drain the life of anything within their vicinity, causing rapid decay if an individual is too close. Even the likes of ALSAN Drivers are incapable of surviving when directly grasped by a Phantasm[5]), Self-Destruction (When a Phantasm's core is destroyed, they release an explosion of Thermal and Life energy,[5] though only Supermassives produce an effect harmful to equivalent opponents), Martial Arts, Weapon Mastery and Vehicular Mastery (Corrupted ALSANs still maintain the combative proficiency of their past lives), unconventional Resistance to Soul Manipulation (Their souls fully controlled by the Piece of Death's power, making them difficult to directly manipulate. Their souls are also condensed into their Core, and hits to any other areas will be unable to affect it) Mind Manipulation (Souls and Minds are synonymous in the JoAT multiverse), Pain Manipulation (Unable to register pain in any capacity), Radiation Manipulation (Unaffected by travelling through nuclear fallout or space combat) | Same as before to a greater extent, Large Size (Type 2, Supermassives are classified by exceeding 100 meters in size), Physics and Matter Manipulation (Macro-Quantic, capable of firing attacks that induce Weak Force, causing the structures of objects they hit to weaken until wind resistance can cause them to fall apart[4]) | Same as before to a far greater extent, Large Size (Type 4, stated to be 264 kilometers long and 176 kilometers wide[7]), Flight (Capable of travelling freely in the vacuum of space), Creation (Capable of spawning lesser Phantasms from itself in droves), Madness Manipulation, Fear Manipulation, Perception Manipulation and Soul Manipulation (Passively emits Ego-Death waves,[7] which cause hysteria and panic to any exposed to it.[8] If initially resisted, can progressively cause further distress via inducing targeted hallucinations,[2] or reinforce it through the roars of ASLANs[9]), Darkness Manipulation (Appeared as a black dot in the skies of earth,[10] despite being approximately 150 million kilometers away at the time), Technology Manipulation (Its constant ambiance of souls disrupt long range radio communication.[1] Capable of directly linking the Piece of Death's image to an ALSAN's camera lens[10]), enhanced Resistance to Soul and Mind Manipulation (Made of billions of souls scattered across it's overall mass, rendering it almost impossible to destroy through these means)

Attack Potency: Varies from Building level+ (Rat Phantasms spawned within the Endbringer move with this kinetic energy[1]), up to Multi City Block level+ (Stronger Phantasms are capable of causing genuine harm to ALSANs such as the Vermillion Striker or Ox Gargoyle, which withstood being slammed into a crater 6 times it's size[4]) | Small Town level+ (The Albany Supermassive was capable of generating this level of kinetic energy through simply moving it's arm forward. Caused nearly crippling damage to the Ox Gargoyle with a single strike despite efforts to redirect it[4]), Town level via Self Destruction (Capable of dealing lethal damage to ALSANs within immediate proximity. The Albany Supermassive was capable of causing nuclear fission, releasing a payload of approximately 22 Kilotons[2]) | Moon level, Universe level+ via Environmental Destruction (By dealing substantial damage to the Earth and killing every remaining human, the Piece of Death's seal would have it's core removed, causing it to rapidly unravel and funnel into their body[2])

Speed: Superhuman travel speed (Most Phantasms move at a somewhat sluggish pace, though they still achieve this speed via the sheer length of their strides), Hypersonic combat speed (Capable of avoiding railgun projectiles and evenly fighting ALSANs such as the Ox Gargoyle, which can fly at 2.6 Kilometers per second[6]), up to Hypersonic+ attack speed (A reverse-jointed Phantasm was capable of leaping with enough speed to pressure the The Blue Flash and could swing it's fist at an even faster speed.[11] Phantasm projectiles outpace the creatures themselves) | Same as before | Massively Hypersonic+ travel speed (Flew at 347 kilometers per second[1]), Hypersonic combat speed, up to Speed of Light attack speed (Would have generated Weak Force weapons in the form of lasers,[2] if not consistently halted by fire from the Global Coalition Fleet)

Lifting Strength: At least Class 5 (Weaker Phantasms are still capable of lifting the equivalent mass of their body weight), up to Class M (Stronger Phantasms can match the Vermillion Striker) | Class G (Could move it's arm with such force, Vermillion Striker had to put their full effort into simply redirecting their arm[4]) | At least Class G, possibly far higher (While it inherently possesses no limbs proportional to it's body, it should be capable of forming tendrils that exceed the strength of Supermassives significantly)

Striking Strength: Varies from Building level+ to Multi City Block level+ | Small Town level+ | Moon level via ramming

Durability: Varies from Building level+ to Multi City Block level+ (A phantasm with a bone-reinforced structure was capable of withstanding the Vermillion Striker's blows.[3] Phantasms are immune to nearly all conventional weapons, excluding nuclear ordinance and soul empowered artillery units[5]) | Small Town level (The Albany Supermassive withstood the force of it's own arm crashing into it's body, albeit with severe fractures and ruptures[4]) | Moon level (Could withstand the ordinance of a Hyper Synchronized Global Coalition Fleet, which had sufficient firepower to delay it's advance for a brief period[12])

Stamina: Infinite (Incapable of feeling any pain or general obstruction to it's capabilities short of it's core being destroyed)

Range: Tens of Meters normally, up to Hundreds of Meters (Can easily extend their limbs to cross this amount of terrain), Kilometers via projectiles (Can easily match the ordinance of ALSANs such as the Ox Gargoyle, who can maintain it's barrage from kilometers into the air[6]) | Same as before | Thousands of Kilometers (Was capable of sending Crimson Phantasms and potentially firing Weak Force beams at the Global Coalition Fleet, despite being 1 minute away from contact[9]), Interplanetary with Ego Death waves (Was capable of affecting Earth from 150 million kilometers away[10])

Standard Equipment: None Notable

Intelligence: Below Average (While they cannot act of their own volition, they are capable of making rudimentary reactions to attacks, such as using ranged projectiles on a jeep firing artillery at them, or forming more eyes on unnatural parts of their body to regain vision), up to Above Average (Corrupted ALSANs possess the intellect of when they were still alive, including experienced pilots like Richard Hawks)

Standard Tactics: A Phantasm will generally lumber towards whatever the greatest source of life is, only having it's focus disrupted if an outside force is capable of doing notable damage to it. To this end, it will simply attack without any measure of defense, morphing it's body in order to find new and more effective ways to attack overtime. In the case of the Endbringer, this means it will simply charge directly towards it's target without pause, simply forming weapons and creating Phantasms as a defensive measure if attacked while attempting to fulfill this goal.

Weaknesses: Destroying their core will immediately kill them. Even without destroying the core, sufficient levels of damage will cause the Piece of Death's power to subside, resulting in the core's rupture regardless. A majority of Phantasms are incapable of complex strategy, as they will simply be instinctually driven towards the largest source of life in their proximity, and even corrupted ALSANs are pushed into a single-minded goal that can cloud their judgement.
