Bon Marché
I really hate the New Year, it's so hard to clean it up and I'm not even getting a raise. I have to save all my money for taxes- which is killing me- and my new wardrobe.
All I desire, is a perfect life. A life where there's nothing in my way, and a life where I could live without regrets. It's, in my own interpretation, the meaning of happiness. The garden of Eden, the Eternal Euthymia, that is what I want be it from Heaven or in Earth
~ Bon's dome philosophy

Summary[]

Bon Marché (lit. "Cheap") is an antagonist featured in C∅ntext by Backbackback. Bon is a janitor who has an infatuation towards domes and lives by their symbolism, including an extreme hate towards new years and expensive things.

He is revealed to be a Milieu Wielder, using his Smooth Criminal to those who dare underestimate his cheap and shy appearance.

Appearance[]

Bon is a slender man of average to below average height, having a black hair with a tinge of red and weird-looking eyes, which is related to his ability. His outfit is composed of a cheap black shirt, cheap slacks with a belt, and a short black suit. He dons what appears to be a knitted wrap belt around his waist, along with a red keychain with symbols written on it. He also wear a pear of circular glasses, which are partly black to not activate his ability, pretending to be "blind".

History[]

Background[]

Bon was born from Poland at a poor family, living in the slums who eat leftovers from trash. Due to his poverty-stricken life, he never got the chance to go to school and slowly spiraled down into desperation and depression, not knowing what to do. A kid with little to no hope in success, he decided to make a bold move: he started robbing banks and left without a job. There, he felt something wrong, reluctant and undecisive if he'd rather live such a messy life.

At some point, he made it to a school where he found friends after finding out he's a part-time robber, even befriending the introverted Ukrainian orphan as his partner-in-crime. This led into him living in next to a "Ghetto," working with other gang members, starting an illegal business group that went on for years. Growing up, Bon owned a relatively small house and lived quite a quiet and simple life, his friends travelling to other countries with them going back to their hometown. During one such occasion, most of his gang members were caught and are subdued by the military. Due to this mistake, he too was arrested, with his home being confiscated and demolished. His close friend Aureo Interno bailed him and explained to him the situation; not only had they subdued other gang members, but had also tracked his previous criminal records and found his home.

Arrival[]

Bon eventually came with Aureo to Kiev in Ukraine, awakening his Milieu and developed an infatuation towards domes, living by their philosophy. While getting his package from the airport, Bon encountered Nghyuhen Nghmaen going opposite his direction, surprised at the scientist's questionable attire. Bon would then follow plan laid out by Aureo, using his fake I.D and passport to bypass the security protocols. Although the real risk of travelling to the country is present due to the current events, he didn't hesitate to go along with the agenda, knowing the two would agree on fixing the current state of the world.

Eventually, he became a local janitor which helps develop a low-profile. He works for about 7 hours before going to a hotel near the meeting spot, where the two would relay info to each other. At the late month of April, multiple Russian soldiers invaded a place near the two's rendezvous. On his way to the meeting site, Bon contacted Aureo who told the former that he's already there; within a few minutes, he arrived in time. At that moment, Bon used Smooth Criminal to prevent their movement by looking at his eyes, throwing a strange needle to break their body apart. Immediately after this, Aureo stealthily creates a "Lie" that summoned a false image of local farmers, carrying the broken pieces and placing them in a car far away from their previous position. The duo then depart, having successfully hidden their stash of equipment with grain, breaking the needle which causes the Russian soldiers body to break apart as well, pieces of flesh filling up the car.

Going back home, a couple of Russian spies were following him, to which he didn't mind and thinks that they don't suspect a thing. Unfortunately, the spies knew about the duos interference with their plan, having deduced their identity. This included Bon's robbery record and Aureo's murders, which led them into observing their current activity after their arrival to the airport. After Bon arrived at his apartment, the spies remained behind him with their guns pointed towards his direction. Bon asks politely to leave him be, but the soldiers weren't buying his excuse so he summoned a needle behind him to attack them, described as "instantaneous". The resulting attack took no time for them to react, their bodies being broken into multiple chunks of glass-like structures with an empty space inside them. After that, he turned back and grabbed their guns from their now fractioned fingers, disassembling them before throwing to the trash can. He then disabled the needles, bringing them back to their previous state and began talking to them, his voice sounding oddly different. It sounded beautiful, appealing even. The voice wasn't that of a gangster, but that of an angel, persuading the soldiers to have mistook him for someone else and decided to leave him be.

Personality[]

Bon is a very eccentric and complex person with an infatuation of domes. This is evident in his goals towards fixing the world and dethroning authorities. It is a combination of this fact and his confrontational nature that led him to place his trust on Aureo, whom did the same thing. He also tends to be annoyed towards and nervous about expensive things, such as when he encountered Nghyuhen and questions her revealing attire as she passes by him. However, this paranoia served useful to him, especially when he deduced that there were Russian spies tailing him.

Despite his confrontational nature, he knows when it's time to fight or not, seen as how he used Smooth Criminal to get away from Russian spies and persuade them into leaving him alone. If push come to shove, Bon won't hesitate to kill anyone who may learn about the duo's plan, such as causing the Russian soldiers to brutally explode into multiple pieces of flesh.

All in all, he truly wants a perfect life. He wants to live a life where no one would get in his way, describing it as "The Garden of Eden" or "The Eternal Euthymia". It is for this reason that he goes along with Aureo's plan, as well as a connection towards his "Dome Philosophy"- described as a life of eternity and perfection. To him, this is his way of achieving happiness, a goal that all humans want to achieve.

Additionally, he tends to have a hatred towards New Years, saying that he has a hard time cleaning all of the mess that people make after the party; on top of that, not getting a raise from his boss, which could be an additional reason as to why he wants to take down authorities of great power. Combined, both his anarchistic and perfectionist-like attitude makes it hard to pin down his exact goals, as both are contradictory in nature, further making him more complex than he initially is.

Powers and Stats[]

Tier: 10-A, 9-C with Guns, Unknown with Smooth Criminal

Powers and Abilities:

Expert Marksman (Knows how to use guns), Supernatural Luck , Supernatural Willpower (All Wielders are very much lucky to have a Milieu and awaken them. This also grants them more power the more courage that they have), Selective Intangibility and Invulnerability (See Milieu Wielder Abilities; Only Milieu Wielders and can affect the other), Abstract Existence (Type 1 and 2; Formless, Evolved and Reoccurrence Types are described to be "eldritch-like" or "beyond-otherworldly"), Accelerated Development (As time passes by, a Wielder will get stronger and stronger either through mental, physical, spiritual, or any means of training so long as it involves the use of their Milieu), Smooth Criminal grants Persuasion, Passive Movement Negation, Time Travel Negation, and Unconventional Acausality Negation (Types 1, 2, & 3) (Anyone who looks into Bon's eye will be unable to move in any of the four direction. Furthermore, this extends to "moving" through time, which, in a sense, stops an individual from travelling into different timelines as well as tampering with Acausal beings' ability to act unrestrained by cause and effect), Spatial Manipulation, Durability Negation, Soul Manipulation (The needles, when broken, can destroy the soul)

Attack Potency: Athlete Level, Street Level with Guns, Unknown with Smooth Criminal (Does not harm the opponent normally, likely Varies since it depends on the damage done to the needle) can ignore durability with its ability

Speed: Athletic Human normally, Subsonic+ to Supersonic+ attack speed with firearms, likely Infinite with Smooth Criminal (The ability takes no time to activate and its effects are instantaneous)

Lifting Strength: At least Athletic Human

Striking Strength: At least Athlete Class

Durability: Athlete level, Unknown with Smooth Criminal

Stamina: Athletic

Range: Standard Melee Range, Varies with Smooth Criminal (Depends on who are looking at his eyes)

Standard Equipment: Several Glock Pistols and Smooth Criminal

Intelligence: Gifted. Bon is intelligent, cunning and an extremely shrewd person, utilizing his Smooth Criminal to its fullest. In combat, he makes brutal and simplistic use of his Milieu, taking no chances and using needles to deliver delayed attacks that would normally be harmless at first glance, which the notion Bon is relying upon to give them a false sense of trust in their judgement. He's also very competent at exploiting weaknesses, taking any opportunity he can when they arise and using it to gain any leverage towards his opponents, be it big or small. Bon is also very observant and considerate, deducing that the stalkers were spies, but spared them as to not raise suspicion around him and always keeps a low-profile to avoid encounters with any threat that may come his way.

Weakness: Standard Milieu Wielder weaknesses. Smooth Criminal's Movement Negation needs the opponent to look into Bon's eyes; Persuasion may also not be one hundred percent favorable, as it could lead into actions where Bon himself wouldn't do; The Needles can only deal damage once the ability is deactivated and requires Bon to destroy the needle for it to actually damage the enemy.

Notable Abilities:

  • Smooth Criminal: Smooth Criminal is a Formless Milieu appearing on Bon's Tongue and eyes; a silver with intricate gold patterns for the former and dark patterns for the latter. It mainly focuses on utility and isn't combat oriented, but is used creatively by Bon that it is extremely lethal.
    • Persuasion: Smooth Criminal allows Bon for a near-perfect social ability, accomplishing his goal through conversation and persuasion. However, it cannot do impossible task. For instance, convincing someone to kill themselves is improbable, not unless the possibility of a conversation causing them to do so does exists, which also depends on their current mental and psychological state as well. The results of these suggestions may also not be one hundred percent favorable; "Convince them not to kill me" could simply wind up in Bon becoming a part the opposite party, if that is the best and most probable way to go about the goal. Without enough specification, things may not go fully as planned. Smooth Criminal also has a side-effect of making Bon's voice sound near-universally beautiful and appealing, which adds to its persuasive capability.
    • Passive Movement Negation: By looking at him in the eyes, it prevents the target from moving, paralyzing their ability to move forwards, backwards, left or right. This effect could affect people even from parts of other universes, so long as they've fallen into effect, and could even prevent people from traveling through time as it stops them from moving, thus preventing them from doing so. This further extends to acausal beings as it tampers with their ability to act unrestrained to cause and effect.
    • The Needle: Can summon needles that turn a person into a glass-like object, creating an empty space inside it. The target hit by needle isn't necessarily injured or harmed by any means, so long as the needle isn't broken.
      • Durability Negation: If the needle/s were to be broken, then the enemy that is afflicted would suffer the same damage as the needle, ignoring durability as it affects even the soul, which allows Bon to take out creatures that are more powerful than him. For this to occur, Bon is required to deactivate the ability first and break the needle second, which would still apply even if Bon forgot to deactivate the needle and/or if the needle were to be broken by anyone else. Additionally, the needles also posses "instantaneous" speed or infinite speed, as shown as when it took no time for them to travel to the Russian spies, immediately turning them into chunks of what they previously are.
