Blackjack is the Protagonist of Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons, is a Major supporting character in Fallout Equestria: Speak, and is a Minor but important backstory character in Fallout Equestria: Homelands. She is a originally a unicorn security mare, hailing from Stable 99 of the 100 underground Stables/Fallout Shelters spread throughout the equestrian wasteland. She is forced to leave her home when a group of raiders attack it in search of extremely valuable data.

Once upon a time in the magical land of Equestria, war was about to reach its fallout induced end. In the midst of this appocalyptic conclusion, a genetically encrypted program was sent out from Canterlot. Within it was a digital skeleton key to all of Equestrias top secret, high priority projects. The program passed from multiple servers, then to stable to stable. Eventually as the stables locked themselves down, the program would become lost to time. Forever trapped within within the confines of one particular stable, Stable 99.

Life in present day 99 was always to follow an order, males were viewed to be nothing more than breeding equipment for the females who would follow in their mothers hoofsteps with an assigned role. This role would become their job for the rest of their lives. To keep the Stable going, the deceased were thrown into the recycler. a machine that processed the deceased into consumable food, keeping the population under precise control. However, animosity was brewing. The Overmare, the leader of the stable and a inherited position itself, was recently appointed after the suspicious death of her mother. Many felt that a power shuffle was brewing, and that Stable 99 needed to change.

Blackjack, Birth name Go Fish was always considered a laughing stock of a failure to her fellow stable ponies. Predestined to be head of security like her mom, she failed at every spell a security pony was supposed to be able to use. Without question, Blackjack secretly loathed the day she'd follow her moms hoofsteps, that she would live and die just as her ancestors had for the past 200 years. In what little free time she had before inheriting the role, Blackjack took to living her life now, living how she wanted, and doing what she wanted, before becoming a slave to fate.

One night, she is tasked with the duty of looking for a runaway male due to be put down. After saving "P-21" from her abusive off duty security peers, she discovers a recording of the young Overmare. The new Overmare had secretly been in contact with above ground members of "Stable Tec", the ones who created the stable series of fallout shelters. The ponies of "Stable Tec" requested that The Overmare find, and have a file that was buried there ready for them, as they were enroute to open the stable's doors. With Stable Tec's impending arrival The Overmare decided this to be the best time to gun down anyone who would potentially oppose or demean her status, starting with the head of security.

Before Blackjack could warn her mom, she encounters a wild blood soaked pony, one who she had never seen before in all of 99. The yells of ponies filled the halls of the stable as violent ponies flooded in. It became apparent that the stable was under siege, and that these ponies were not Stable Tec. Blackjack eventually finds her mom, and hugs her, telling her of the Overmare's failed power grab scheme. In a desperate attempt to save her home, Blackjack, with the help of P-21, saves the coveted file to her Pipbuck, the sole remaining copy of the file, before leaving her home. Diverting the raiders attention as she entered the hell scape above.

Appearance

Blackjack is a white unicorn pony, sporting a red and black mane motif, serving as a compliment to her playing card theme.

In this form she sports her standard stable security barding. Designed to allow maneuverability while focusing protection on her front half. In addition she also sports a Pipbuck. a detachable PDA device, that can assist her in combat.

Personality

Like her appearance Blackjack as a individual changes very drastically throughout the events of Project Horizons. At her core, she is a jovial, peace loving, drunkard on the outside however this is only to mask the great pains she constantly feels within. Blackjack abhors the lawless conditions and mentalities associated with The Wasteland and will go out of her way to enforce whatever she can define as peace.

As with Littlepip when she first left the stable Blackjack initially had an extremely sheltered and limited world view. Being almost completely unable to comprehend what would drive ponies to madness. Her own always do better mentality caused her early on to feel immense pressure. this pressure compounded with immense feelings of regret in regards to innocents and friends she got killed, or had to kill, often lead Blackjack to thoughts and even acts of attempted suicide. However, through the help of her friends, and their reassurance that she was important and was making a positive impact on the world she learned and realize that she had and could persevere more than any other pony. With her past in mind she pushes forward with the faith of others and her history to remind her to never give up, to always push to do better and be better.

In it Blackjack can alter her fate to "win" contests against others at the cost of losing something much of high personal value. The conditions for reaching this state are extremely vague as it was able to be triggered for the first time to help Blackjack avoid trouble in killing someone who beat her in a begnin card game. Full extent of the ability surpasses the comprehension of the universe governing Star Spirits, beings who are capable of seeing into an infinite number of timelines.. According to The Dealer (Himself a ethereal cosmic being who feeds on suffering.) and Cognitum Blackjack may always win in some extreme fashion if she can pay a heavy cost and suffer in return. Throughout the events of Project Horizons the variation of what can be defined as anteable has varied drastically, be it Blackjack offering pieces of her own flesh and blood, the lives of those close to her, ponies that would be painful to lose, or more meta concepts and ideas. Blackjack clinically dies 3 times yet even in death the ability has kept her in the game as it were. The ability however is situation dependent, and will not full take effect if Blackjack is unable to ante up something to trigger the ability, be it lacking a more vested interest in the conflict in question.

Can be very predictable, Pipbuck is vulnerable to EMPs, EFS does not inform its users what kind of life it finds and has trouble with elevation. Blackjacks fate manipulation requires her to "ante up" something of extremely high value to her personally. Trottenheimers Folly imbues its user with cancer inducing levels of radiation when fired. Blackjack at this point in the story is completely unaware of how strong Trottenheimers Folly is.

I’m starting to wonder: am I still Blackjack? Sure. My cutie mark is the same queen and ace. I have the same security barding, modified and very patched up though it is. I’m still not the smartest pony and I have a terrifying habit of stringing together half-baked ideas on the fly and calling them a plan. I’m still as mule-headed as ever; that will never change. But since I’ve left the stable, I’ve killed ponies. I did that before, too, only I painted it with colorful euphemisms like ‘taking out of service’ and ‘defending myself to their death’. Now, I just killed, plain and simple, with shotgun and carbine and fire axe and my bare hooves if I needed to. I was also more concerned with survival. In Stable 99, everypony knew that the stable was one hard sneeze from failure. Now I had ponies that would kill me for bottlecaps. Heck, even the very land itself would kill me. There was already a time bomb inside me that might finish me, or maybe mutate me and then kill me.

No matter how irradiated or dangerous things might get, Blackjack had a goal in mind, to follow EC-1101 to whatever horrors it might take her.

Death, Blackjack had fully succumb to the cancer and radiation that was wrecking her body. She had died, and passed on to the world of stars, seeing all the grandeur of the universe in its origin.

The Stars showed her the beginning of life on Equestria. The center piece of a cosmic schism that shook the very universe. Her world, her life was simply a cog in the machine of war between universal constructs. Watching with horror as the twisted spirit corrupted the Sun and Moon sisters of legend. The Stars had wanted to spare Blackjacks soul from the torment she would be destined to face. But she refused, shunning the idea that she can run away from such a cosmic catastrophe, and leave her friends to die.

It was with that notion, that she returned to the living world. A world significantly altered by cybernetics and synthetics. Blackjack had become a cyberpony, complete with retractable hands and thumbs.

Following a brief drunken adventure with the Stable Dweller Blackjack had learned that Sanguine was destroying every outpost she had visited before arriving at Tenpony, having grown desperate in obtaining EC-1101. With no time to spare, Blackjack and company leave Tenpony Tower. Hoping to stop Sanguines ambitions once and for all.

A horrifying predicament befalls Blackjack again. The stress, the mind bending stress of her mission all but sees her in torture in every waking moment, the death of herself and her friends further bespells a madness within her, one curated by her new augmentations.

More Machine than pony, more automaton than moral, she lashes out in futility, threating to kill the Stable occupants of Shadowbolt Tower, Lighthooves mission was irrelevant. All of this to her was irrelevant compared to what she thought she had lost, herself. The stars dark prophecy seemingly being true.

But a voice, a lone voice that she did not recognize through sound but in emotion, stopped her pain and agony, Boo, uttered her first word, "Blackjack". The pony she had worked to raise, do right for unconditionally, and save, had grown! For as much as she had lost already, she would only continue to lose more precious things if her mind went astray, and so she subsided her anger, as a calm wind overtook her.

But the transfiguration into a cyber alicorn had revealed yet another reason to fight on, she was pregnant. The child of hers and P-21 rested in her new, disfigured body. With a newfound vigor and courage she reasoned with herself to continue forward, to stop Lighthooves bio weapon and forge a future where she can start a family...happily...

Loss, a feeling all but familiar to Blackjack a feeling of loneliness and despair that is all consuming and vile to its very core. EC-1101, her friends, her body, her soul, but importantly her children, all seemingly ripped and stolen from her by Cognitum.

The grand machinations of the Legate all came to a front to rob her of her very being. The visions of the world being all too Black at the core being all too real. But in her darkest hour hope came from the most unlikeliest of places. Scores of ponies, who had wronged her at every turn, banded together to bring her back into the living world, through her Blank body. The continued torture of Blackjack was something that ate away at them for every passing moment. Blackjack was back in the world of the living, and was every bit of a threat as ever. A new mission, a new drive pushed her ever so. Stop Cognitum, get her babies back, and save the world.

Appearance

Blackjack is a white unicorn pony, sporting a red and black mane motif, serving as a compliment to her playing card theme.

Blackjack now inhabits a clone body she once made for spare organs. This clone is sampled from her genetic template, a piece for piece recreation of her original body prior to leaving her home. One of pure flesh and Blood again.

Like her appearance Blackjack as a individual changes very drastically throughout the events of Project Horizons. At her core, she is a jovial, peace loving, drunkard on the outside however this is only to mask the great pains she constantly feels within. Blackjack abhors the lawless conditions and mentalities associated with The Wasteland and will go out of her way to enforce whatever she can define as peace.

As with Littlepip when she first left the stable Blackjack initially had an extremely sheltered and limited world view. Being almost completely unable to comprehend what would drive ponies to madness. Her own always do better mentality caused her early on to feel immense pressure. this pressure compounded with immense feelings of regret in regards to innocents and friends she got killed, or had to kill, often lead Blackjack to thoughts and even acts of attempted suicide. However, through the help of her friends, and their reassurance that she was important and was making a positive impact on the world she learned and realize that she had and could persevere more than any other pony. The threat of Cognitum has passed. Blackjack triumphantly returned to her original body and showed Lunas soul the light, banishing from her whatever remained of Nightmare Moon.

However, Cognitum proved persistent, and in a last ditch effort preserved herself in a collection of Mechasprite AI. The transfer of Cognitum back into insufficient memory banks drove the AI to further insanity. Revenge on Blackjack was its sole directive in its final moments; Fatally wounding P-21 before being ultimately put down. Her final moments with her companion, lover, and friend, were spent getting Blackjack and Scotch Tape home. Therein Rampage was forced to stay behind as well to see the rocket make its maiden voyage.

Mental stability on the rocket proved fringe at best. Scores of Blackjacks friends and allies were dying in the Battle to hold off the Brood. She watched in helpless horror as lives of much better ponies faded of life for her sake, for her mission. Of which she seemingly failed.

The Legate through enduring thousands of years of suffering had finally amassed the star spirit necessary for his masters revival The Eater of Souls.

And on the last whispers of Morning Glory's life, she concocted a last resort to deal with The Eater, disrupting the process of converting Star Metal to pure energy, the last possible chance she had of saving the planet. With her friends hopes, dreams, and dying breaths on her, Blackjack, a shambled emotional wreck, ventures towards the core one last time.

    • SATS: SATS, short for Stable-Tec Arcane Targeting Spell, is a targeting spell that slows the users perception of time to a crawl and allows them to more accurately deal with targets. Once activated the spell presents users with a HUD of the chances of their attack hitting their target. Once released all attacks are carried out automatically.
    • EFS: EFS, short for Eyes Forward Sparkle, is a sensory spell that when activated gives the user an indication of lifeforms surrounding them, making several assertions and determining whether or not they are a threat to the user.
    • EC-1101: Program embedded into her Pipbuck that gives her access to highly powerful pre apocalypse weaponry.
    • Stealthbuck: The Stealthbuck is an add on for Pipbucks designed to replicate the abilities, of a Zebra cloak, it completely makes the user invisible and cancels out any noise the user would make to a degree.
  • "Loaded Down": Advanced Assault Rifle with armor piercing rounds.
  • Moonstone Riot Shotgun: originally a normal riot shotgun Blackjack acquired after her fight with Legate. Despite being her primary weapon for an extremely short period of time, the weapon and its ammunition have since rapidly adopted the same physical properties as Moonstones
  • Duty and Sacrifice: Twin 5 Shot 45 Caliber Revolvers, they were specifically made to be fired telekinetically and thus prove extremely effective in combat due to their armor piercing abilities.
  • Mane Six Statuettes: 6 Statues of the Mane Six from the MLP Friendship is Magic TV Series series, these statuettes each contain a small fragment of each respective pony and Rarity's soul, it is strongly hinted that these statues if all united can give their respective holder resistance to Mind and Emphatic Manipulation from even the strongest of Alicorn Magic and The Goddess.
  • Moonstone: Fragment of the star spirit that was encased on the moon that Blackjack freed during her visit, protects her from the effects of enervation and can act as a soul destroying conduit.
  • Star Metal Sword: Sword made of the same material that cases Trottenheimer's Folly's ammunition it is the strongest known material on Equus.
  • Trottenheimer's Folly: Shoots localized Star Metal/Moonstone combustions. Generally considered to be the most powerful weapon on the planet. Genetically locked so that only direct blood relatives of the Mane 6 can use it or its ammunition. Folly's ammunition casings are highly irradiated to the point where simply loading and priming the weapon for fire can induce life threatening conditions. The chain reaction the weapon causes upon being fired requires that it encase its chamber in a forcefield powered by the chain reaction, as no chamber could withstand the energies released. This user encompassing forcefield also exposes the user to high levels of localized radiation as the weapons original designer intended to kill himself upon using the weapon.

Notable Abilities/Techniques:

  • Telekinesis: Blackjack can use the ever basic telekinesis spell to lift small objects like firearms or other weapons. Her proficiency with said ability by this point allows her to competently use all of her offensive weapons simultaneously.
  • Energy Projection: Blackjack has the ability to fire "Telekinetic Rounds". Pockets of air she has encased in a layer of Telekinesis that she can fire like a bullet. Since merging with Luna, Blackjacks control over this ability has increased immensely as she can now form more complex shapes like scissors and drills. By combining this with her shield spell she can create a massive explosive wave of energy.
  • Teleportation/BFR: Blackjack can teleport large distances rapidly using her teleportation spell. Since merging with Lunas soul she can now teleport with others.
  • Mind/Memory Reading: Blackjack can read the minds and memories of others or even transfer them to herself if she touch the targets forehead with her horn. By this point in the story she seems to not require a physical connection. Through the use of her own ability to transmutate objects into moonstone conduits she was able to briefly trap The Eater of Souls in a dream state.
    • Soul Destruction: Through the use of a Moonstone, Blackjack can destroy the soul of her opponent once she has made contact with their mind.
  • Forcefield Creation: Blackjack can summon forcefields similar to the ones used by Alicorns.
  • Passive Transmutation: After having her soul merged with Luna's, Blackjack gained Luna's ability to passively transmutate objects over time so that they adopt the same properties as Moonstone. Allowing her better access to some of her more potent magical abilities.
  • Fire Manipulation: After merging with Luna's soul Blackjack has seeming gained the ability to project and control fire.
  • Passive Fate Manipulation: It is revealed in the final section of the story that Blackjack has always been able to manipulate fate to her favor passively, given she can meet certain requirements to trigger an ability. The ability was first theorized by Cognitum, and several other characters of seemingly higher origin (Discord, The Stars, and The Dealer), have all respectively given credence to the ability's existence. In it Blackjack can alter her fate to "win" contests against others at the cost of losing something much of high personal value. The conditions for reaching this state are extremely vague as it was able to be triggered for the first time to help Blackjack avoid trouble in killing someone who beat her in a benign card game, and earning her cutie mark. The full extent of the ability surpasses the comprehension of the universe governing Star Spirits, beings who are capable of seeing into an infinite number of timelines. This winning hand ability is subtlety referenced on Blackjack's cutie mark, an Ace and Queen of Spades. According to The Dealer (Himself a ethereal cosmic being who feeds on suffering.) and Cognitum Blackjack may always win in some extreme fashion if she can pay a heavy cost and suffer in return. Throughout the events of Project Horizons the variation of what can be defined as anteable has varied drastically, be it Blackjack offering pieces of her own flesh and blood, the lives of those close to her, ponies that would be painful to lose, or more meta concepts and ideas. Blackjack clinically dies 3 times yet even in death the ability has kept her in the game as it were. The ability however is situation dependent, and will not full take effect if Blackjack is unable to ante up something to trigger the ability, be it lacking a more vested interest in the conflict in question.

Intelligence: Extremely Gifted, Blackjack at the end of the story has been around for centuries, watching from afar how the world of Equus would reform itself after her and Littlepips adventures. Secretly guiding and aiding her decedents should they need guidance in getting along.

Weaknesses: Excessive use of magic, or use of more exhausting spells will render her horn inert for some time. Pipbuck is vulnerable to EMPs. EFS does not inform its users what kind of life it finds and has trouble with elevation. Stealthbuck only lasts an hour and requires an hour of recharge time after each use. Blackjacks fate manipulation requires her to "ante up" something of extremely high value to her personally. Trottenheimers Folly imbues its user with cancer inducing levels of radiation when fired.

After the climatic events of Project Horizons, Blackjack rejoined the world of the living once again in the cold but familiar depths of Stable 99. Her past life, her experiences, all flashed before her in her Blank body in an instance as she ran away from the depressing memories that 99 had wrought upon her. The pain of her past torturing her endlessly for years to come.

4 Years Later.

The Heartmenders, a special group dealing with the connections between ones self and their soul, were funded by Velvet Remedy, to work on mending the most corrupted, and depressed minds of the wasteland. Hoofington was changing for the better but the air of death and pain from years past, still lingered over the city like a festering corpse. There was something wrong, somepony still terrible wronged...Blackjack. The top priority, of the Heartmenders, was rehabilitating The pony who wagered everything for the Hoof. Finding a way for her live happily and move past everything. The pain of the past however has left Security mentally fortified, to where she treats her own doctors psychological issues. She has been through more pain and suffering than any other pony that she began to feel isolated from those her age, and the very world around her. Be it killing more slavers, getting dangerously drunk, or having gratuitus sex, nothing could subside the pain in her heart. She was just a husk waiting for the sweet release of death. The complexity of her condition felt like it was something beyond the Heartmenders, who started to take her case more personally than professionally by this point. Desperate to induce results, they introduced Blackjack to their youngest member. The young and naïve Thernody, who was persistent in reaffirming to Blackjack that life is still worth living. Its only over time when Thern truly begins to understand Blackjacks life and pain.

Blackjack is a white unicorn pony, sporting a red and black mane motif, serving as a compliment to her playing card theme.

Post dying for a third time Blackjack's soul has resurfaced once again her blank body. sporting all the same attributes as it had previously when she inhabited it. A one for one perfect genetic recreation of her original body.

Personality

Like her appearance Blackjack as a individual changes very drastically throughout the events of Project Horizons. At her core, she is a jovial, peace loving, drunkard on the outside however this is only to mask the great pains she constantly feels within. Blackjack abhors the lawless conditions and mentalities associated with The Wasteland and will go out of her way to enforce whatever she can define as peace.

As with Littlepip when she first left the stable Blackjack initially had an extremely sheltered and limited world view. Being almost completely unable to comprehend what would drive ponies to madness. Her own always do better mentality caused her early on to feel immense pressure. this pressure compounded with immense feelings of regret in regards to innocents and friends she got killed, or had to kill, often lead Blackjack to thoughts and even acts of attempted suicide. However, through the help of her friends, and their reassurance that she was important and was making a positive impact on the world she learned and realize that she had and could persevere more than any other pony. With her past in mind she pushes forward with the faith of others and her history to remind her to never give up, to always push to do better and be better.
