O great and sovereign Morning Star, you who are the only one worthy to be called the True God, forgive me for failing to bring you a suitable sacrifice. I, a pathetic servant, don't even deserve to say your name, but I promise to bring you something better.
~ Berith praying to Lucifer.

Arial came out...
~ Berith takes control of Arial Jacques.

What if I tell you a story... Where do I control everything in the universe? It begins with a reincarnation and ends with a more than sad ending. Well, welcome to the bad ending.
~ Berith Edwards as Arial.

I've lost count of how many I've killed... I've lost count of these voices trying to control me. Genocide was my choice, look what I've become.
~ Berith Edwards.

Berith Edwards, also known as Berith, is a Satanist and worshiper of the fallen angels, Lucifer and Samael, and a former member of Temple of the Black Light. He is known to be a serial killer and an extreme Devil worshiper, offering several sacrifices to Lucifer and Samael with the intention of pleasing them, with one of those sacrifices being Jeanne Smith, ironically, Lucifer's younger sister.

Backstory[]

Berith Edwards was born into a financially successful family, which gave her a golden childhood. However, his father was a practicing Satanist, he was a worshiper of Lucifer, the Morning Star, advocating that Lucifer was not an enemy of humanity, but rather his savior, that Lucifer was a warrior of light while God was the ruler of darkness. Such teaching was passed on to Berith, who considered Lucifer to be a glorious and wonderful angel, worshiping her and praying to the Morning Star in the same way that Christians pray to God.

After becoming an adult, he began to follow his own views and thoughts about the Devil, no longer seeing the Devil as a literal person, but rather as a philosophy, an archetype, an idea for the neutrality of good and evil, following his own convictions. But, he still believed in the existence of the Fallen Angel, although not literally as he claims, seeing him as more of an impersonal entity, like the Islamic view of Allah. In the meantime, he got married and had two children, a boy and a girl.

At the age of 24, Berith entered the Temple of the Black Light, an occultist order that sees chaos as an infinite-dimensional, pan-dimensional plane of possibilities, in contrast to the cosmos that has only three spatial dimensions and a linear time dimension. In this organization, he was taught how to use black magic and Enochian sorcery in order to have supernatural powers over other people.

After the organization was closed, he was aimless and with nothing to do, so he decided to try for the first time in his life, to summon a demon, and that's what he did. Berith then invoked with a blood sacrifice a powerful demon named Mammon, who upon seeing the great devotion of the Satanist, told him that he was imprisoned in Hell and that the vision Berith was seeing was just a simple manifestation, and explained to the man that there was a way to free both Mammon and the other princes from Hell, and for that would require a great ritual that would involve blood sacrifice, Berith accepted without question.

After that, a lot of serial murders began, with one of the victims being the little 8 year old girl, Jeanne Smith. However, after Jeanne's death, Berith's daughter disappeared and, believing it might be some divine punishment from above, decided to stop the murders and try to escape until she could continue with the ritual.

After Naamah's disappearance, Berith's wife separated from him believing that her husband was cursed. More than 20 years after his hiatus from this ritual, the man of sin decided to return to his mission to free the infernal princes. But, to his surprise, his son, Dantalion Edwards had already discovered the whole truth about his father and went after him along with the Eden Team, with the exception of Isaac Smith, who was possessed by Jeanne.

Berith was eventually killed by Isaac Smith, or so they believed, as he had managed to survive the half-demon man's blows, but that was more than good for Jeanne. The vengeful spirit manifested herself in front of the man, revealing that her Naamah's soul and soul had merged, and the man had been forced to be tortured by his own daughter for years and years, until finally Jeanne was satisfied with her revenge and left to rest in heaven, leaving Berith finally to die.

Berith ended up going to the third heaven, which was considered unpardonable by the Angels, who sent him to Hell, where Berith was humiliated by the demons for having failed in his mission to get the princes out of Sheol. However, Mammon, angry at the man, said he was not even worthy to live among the demons of Hell, and Berith was expelled from Sheol. The man, perverse that he was, entered his body, which was already rotting, and began to roam the earth, trying to survive. Legends and myths began to emerge about Berith, but he became better known as "the man who was rejected by Heaven and Hell".

Father vs Son[]

A few years after Berith's death, her son, Dantalion Edwards began to receive reports that an undead man was attacking people, and this caught his attention. Arriving at the place, he after doing some research and using Enochian witchcraft, managed to discover that his suspicions were right, that monstrous creature was his father Berith.

Dantalion went to an abandoned factory and wrote several Satanic and Luciferian symbols with the intention of manifesting demonic power to attract his father, something that worked. When Berith invaded the place, the father and son were reunited, and Berith despite several years wandering, still recognized his son and, with hatred, remembered that everything he was was the fault of his father and Benjamin and left for over Dantalion.

Dantalion, however, had made a trap for Berith and as Berith was weak and slow, he managed to throw a shark cage on top of Berith trapping him, soon after, Dantalion with tears in his eyes, asks his father for forgiveness, and he told him that he still loved him despite everything and that if Berith came back he could come back as a good person. Berith upon hearing his son's words, for the first time in years, made an expression of sadness and regret, which was possible to see even through the rotting flesh.

Dantalion then set fire to his father and the entire factory, blowing it up completely, escaping before the explosion reached him. Berith was apparently definitely dead. And again, his soul, was thrown into the deepest of Hell. As time in Hell passes differently than time on Earth, Berith spent thousands of years being tortured in Hell, having been thrown inside a fully enclosed iron box that barely contained his body, which was submerged in the fiery lake of Hell.

He always comes back[]

After the events involving the Apocalypse, Isabel Smith opened the gates of Hell and the locks that imprisoned souls in the Flaming Abyss, allowing all souls to leave Hell, including Berith, receiving the mother of all second chances. However, the fate of Berith's soul was uncertain after leaving Hell. Several years after Heaven's victory over Hell in Apocalypse and the defeat of Abaddon, as well as the defeat of King Solomon, Isaac Smith's son, Rafael Smith, met a demon named Arfoire (aka Beatrice Jacques), and the two ended up falling in love and they had a child named Arial Jacques.

When Arial Jacques was still a kid, their father took them to see a themed mall for his son to have fun. However, a mysterious man appeared to Arial and told them that there was something wrong in that place, something 5-year-old Arial agreed with and the two began to look for what was causing this feeling in them. The truth was that the Mall had been built exactly on top of the place where Berith Edwards had been burned by Dantalion, and in the depths of the Mall, Arial ended up finding something he shouldn't have found, which was Berith Edwards, or what was left his.

Isaac and Rafael managed to arrive shortly after Arial and found Berith going to attack Arial, with Rafael activating his demonic powers and viciously attacking Berith to defend his son. Rafael tells his father to get Arial and the two of them to leave that place and so Isaac did, with Rafael finishing what Benjamin, his grandfather, and Dantalion started, using his own demonic flames to burn Berith's body forever and ever, leaving not even ashes of him.

You can't burn me... You can't even hurt me... You can't hur-... What is happening to me?
~ Berith Edwards.
You will die for everything you've done!
~ Rafael Smith.

Berith, however, reveals to Rafael that he was just an empty shell, that he was long dead without a soul, that he was only moving because he held Berith's memories and hatred within him, with the Rejected Man in the Heaven and Hell revealing something that almost drove Rafael crazy, which was Berith revealing that his soul was inside Arial Jacques. Arial Jacques was the reincarnation of Berith Edwards. Finally, Rafael angrily destroyed Berith's body, ashes by ashes, cell by cell, molecule by molecule and atom by atom. Afterwards, Rafael Smith came out of the back of the Mall and reunited with Arial and hugged him, choosing not to tell his grandfather about the cute little Arial being actually the murderous Berith reincarnated.

Appearance[]

Berith before he died was a handsome man, in his 40s. He had short dark hair and green eyes, which were inherited from his father and passed on to his children. He possessed a body with a strong and well built physique, showing that he took good care of his body. He usually wore a white T-shirt under a dark suit.

After dying and returning to his old body, his body became rotten, his teeth rotted and some fell out of his mouth. His hair has grown strangely, indicating that his body has mutated, being neither human nor undead. Also, his body is all thin due to lack of nutrition, which makes him look frightening. His eyes have gone completely opaque, lifeless, though some say his eyes have a light of their own, that maybe it's Berith's soul trying to escape his body. He also doesn't seem to be able to move easily, as his entire body aches, with his screams of pain sometimes being heard by local farmers who hear him in the woods.

Personality[]

Berith is what some would call a psychopath, however, he admits that he is mentally sane and capable of feeling all the emotions a human being can feel, including love, shown by the love he feels for his mother and children. Despite this, he manages to act like a maniac, attacking people and killing them just to try to free Lucifer. He is known to be a great worshiper and flatterer of Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness, considering her the greatest and most beautiful and sublime deity of existence, exalting the name of the Morning Star of the same way that the Jews exalt the name of the God of Israel, Yahweh.

He formerly had the same vision as his father, that God was evil and darkness while Lucifer was good and light, but he started not to care about it anymore, believing that good and evil don't matter for figures as divine as Lucifer. His devotion to the Morning Star was so great that he accepted without question the mission given by Mammon to take the lives of several adults and children in an attempt to free the Princes of Hell. He took the lives of several children who hadn't even reached ten years of age without even hesitating, not caring about the suffering it would cause their parents or their brothers and sisters, believing that the pain of others doesn't matter if that pain doesn't affect him.

However, after taking Jeanne Smith's life, his eldest daughter, Naamah, had disappeared, although he didn't know why, he decided to stop the murders believing that perhaps God was trying to punish him. Due to the disappearance of his daughter, his wife decided to separate from him because she believed that Berith was cursed by God, which only worsened Berith's mental state. After being "killed" by Jeanne's brother, Isaac Smith, the little girl took Berith's body and put him in an endless loop of suffering and torture, to make him pay for his crimes and for the pain he caused his family, which made him go crazy for the suffering that never ended. Isaac Smith mentions that Berith has no salvation, as he was born a psychopath who loves to kill, destroy and devastate, which is why Isaac, who had never killed anyone, decided to take Berith's life, as he had no way to change.

Finally, after years of torture, Jeanne let Berith die, and he was eventually sent to Heaven, considered too unfair and evil to receive redemption and forgiveness, which caused him to be cast into Hell, where he was tortured and humiliated by demons and, to his surprise, his father is in Hell. Realizing that all his opinions and views of the Devil were wrong, he finally started to go mad, but in Hell madness would ease the burden of punishment, so the demons would not allow such a thing to happen. Mammon, however, considered that Berith was not worthy to live among them, as she had failed in her one and only mission, which resulted in Mammon driving Berith out of Hell.

After Mammon throws Berith out of Hell, and the man of sin entered his old body, with some saying that when he entered his body, Berith was no longer a creature of God, but a evil and chaotic creature that personifies evil itself. Although it is hard to believe, Berith was a genius, known for being gifted with great intelligence since he was little, with 9 years old already able to solve mathematical calculations that would be difficult for 12 year olds and by 18 years old he could already speak several different languages, including Japanese and Arabic. He was later able to speak Enochian, the native language of Adam that was passed on to Cain and Seth, the language from which all others originated, being over hundreds of thousands of years old. In addition to being able to speak the oldest language on Earth, he was also able to use Enochian magic, magic so old that it was totally lost after the Great Flood.

Berith's evil is such that, for Michael and Gabriel, Jeanne, a high-level vengeful spirit who unwittingly tortures her own brother, is still a lovable child, while Berith is seen as pure evil. Also, some say he was so evil that even some demons were afraid to approach him, even though he was in Hell.
