Summary

Aiden Aurum is a supporting character in Tales of the Red Wings. He is a reincarnator who is currently employed with the Dragon's Crown guild, and is known to be among the strongest individuals in Astiria.

Aiden is the twin brother of protagonist Rynild Aurum, and was delivered to the church of Florestrella Village as an infant. The two's original parents are unknown, but both were raised by the head of the church, the Arachne Alice Marvell. Growing up, Ryn and Aiden had a fierce rivalry, the two of them always competing over even petty things. Whereas Ryn was a normal child, however, Aiden was gifted with superhuman strength and speed, as well as innate affinities for magic.

Around the time he began to reach adolescence, the church was visited by a representative of the Astirian Government, who revealed that Aiden was a Reincarnator, a person who had lived multiple lives and whose soul lingered in the world after death, due to godly parentage in their original life. This status meant Aiden was promised a position in the Heroes' Guild, Dragon's Crown, and it was a position he took as soon as he became old enough to do so.

Aiden's known past lives are the Knight of the Sun, Gawain, and Argonaut, Heracles. He has an obsession with being a hero.

Standard Equipment:

• Dyrnwyn: Aiden's main weapon. It is a Sacred Arms that was stored in the Valor National Museum, and chose Aiden when he saw it. It is a B-Rank Anti-Fortress Sacred Arms, and one of the legendary weapons brought to Astiria during the great exodus. Once upon a time, Dyrnwyn belonged to one of the Knights of Lemuria, Mars, but was taken from a knight of Lyonesse who killed Mars in a duel. Legend says that when drawn by a worthy or well-born man, the entire blade would blaze with fire. Dyrnwyn's main power allows it to absorb solar energy and convert it into magical energy, storing the collected power within the blade's hilt. Aiden can release it in the form of scorching solar heat, able to bypass the natural fire magic resistance of a fire draconian like Jackie, or Ryn, who is immune to the heat of his normal fire attacks due to their shared affinities.
• Armor: A set of armor that Aiden stores within Hero's arms. It is described as painted steel, and besides providing extra protection, its properties are currently unknown.

Intelligence: Genius in Combat, Average in other places. Aiden is an extremely skilled swordsman, mage, and martial artist with multiple lives of experience. He mastered all seven Pleiades techniques as Heracles, and alongside Jackie is the only person in Astiria capable of performing them. His skill in swordplay put Lucas Belnades and Augustus Archibald to shame, despite the former being a superior swordsman to Zephyr (Whose skill is so great that he can copy martial techniques at a glance) and the latter being considered "Terrifying" by Aida Marsh, a military veteran. Beyond that, Aiden is highly skilled at waiting for tiny openings and defending against unpredictable foes like Jackie, though he can be headstrong and enjoys fighting.

Weaknesses: Aiden has an obsession with proving himself as a hero, and to this end will do things he thinks are "cool" or "heroic" against an opponent weaker than himself, like calling out his attack names or engaging in banter rather than focusing on finishing the battle. As a fire mage, his flames can be put out by enough ice or water magic.

Notable Attacks and Techniques:

• Magic Crest - Hero's Arms: A Magic Crest is a unique collection of magic circuits, that forms a visible marking on one’s body. Those who possess a magic crest are capable of performing some manner of special spell or ability that doesn’t fit into typical magical categories, or would otherwise require large amounts of preparation and affinities. Magic crests can evolve over time, but are generally limited by the power of the one who possesses it. Most notably, they are especially resistant to anti-magic abilities. Aiden's crest, Hero's Arms, grants Aiden a pocket dimension that he can use to store materials and equipment in, as well as summon them up from. Aiden generally uses this to store not only his own weapons and armor, but that of his teammates as well, making transportation of equipment far easier.
• Fire Magic: Aiden possesses an affinity for Fire, much like Ryn. Unlike Ryn, however, Aiden has actually put effort into learning Fire Magic, able to launch fireballs, waves of flame, or pillars of heat. However, rather than ranged attacks, Aiden generally prefers to use Enchantment to place his flames onto his weapon for enhanced melee attacks. Aiden is skilled enough to color his flames.
  • Unknown Fire Coloration: Aiden can color his flame a pale red color, with the edges of it fading and burning into a light blue hue. The effects of this are thus far unknown, and Aiden is the only person to have demonstrated this coloration before.
  • Sun Magic: As the reincarnation of Sir Gawain, knight of the sun, Aiden is capable of adding Light magic to his fire, generating miniature suns that can be used as projectiles. This magic is even hotter than his normal fire.
• Enchantment: A type of magic that alters the properties of objects by "enchanting" new concepts onto the targeted object's information. This is the type of magic that is used to create things like the flaming swords of legend, and has an extreme amount of potential versatility. High-level enchantment takes preparation and often a material component to use as a base for applying its property, but Aiden is capable of performing combat-ready enchantments related to fire.
  • Flametongue: Aiden enchants his weapon with the "Flaming" property, turning it into a weapon that blazes with fire, but is resistant enough to heat to not melt under the burden of its own flames. This is Aiden's signature spell, one he has practiced thousands of times and refined to the point where he can cast it with a simple thought.
• Swordsmanship: Having multiple past lives that were highly skilled with swords and similar one-handed armaments, Aiden is a master swordsman. His skills put Lucas and Augustus to shame, two prodigies of swordfighting that are far superior to the likes of Aida, a trained military veteran with the ability to store thousands of combat styles within her brain, and Zephyr, a prodigy in his own right who can copy the techniques of those fast enough to blitz him to the point where he can match them blow for blow. His fighting style blends the skills of Heracles and Sir Gawain together, and has shown to amplify his power greatly when using formal techniques.
  • Fire God Slash: Aiden's signature attack. It is a basic technique, in which Aiden raises his blade high above his head and brings it down in a two-handed cleaving attack like an executioner's axe. This technique came from Heracles, and bears his full power behind it. This technique was able to cut through Midori Matsuura's spirit ray, which was amplified by a gem from Hilda Eysteinn, a mage whose gem magic was capable of injuring and defending against attacks from Tatsuya Meisei.
    • When enchanted with Flametongue, Aiden's blade erupts with fire as he raises it, and it emits a large cutting wave of fire upon his swing. As a child, this technique could melt boulders.
  • Radiant Dawn: A speed-based technique, in which Aiden holds his blade straight with both hands and charges full-speed at the opponent, aiming to impale them before they can react. Aiden typically adds a sun to the tip of his blade when doing this to add explosive properties to his power. This technique came from Gawain.
    • When enchanted with Flametongue, Aiden generates an aura of flame around his blade and body, becoming a flaming comet that impales and burns the enemy.
• Stockpile: An ability possessed by the hero of Arcadia, Heracles. Aiden is capable of stockpiling power by taking in Kinetic Energy, something that occurs with essentially every motion he takes, even as simple as walking or sleeping. Whenever he wants, he can release this energy in the form of violent shockwaves or enhanced melee attacks; Too much power released at once, however, can be damaging to his body, so Aiden tries to limit his output.
• Blessing of Fairies: A power inherited by Aiden from Gawain, who received this blessing during his life. Aiden is blessed by the fairies of fire, a boon that renders him essentially immune to all forms of heat. He can completely ignore he heat of his own suns, and only flames from a dragon or draconian can harm him. Additionally, this causes Aiden's power to increase greatly the higher the sun is in the sky. At Noon, Gawain was said to be completely invincible.
• Pleiades Seven Stars: A Martial Art from Arcadia, that only Aiden and Jackie Barrows know in Astiria due to the art not existing in the country. The techniques are based on the seven Pleiades, children of the earth god Atlas that Heracles studied with in his adolescence. Aiden is capable of using at least four of these techniques at the moment. This art requires knowledge of Ki to use it to the fullest.
  • Alcyone: By channeling Ki into his legs, Aiden is capable of moving at incredible speeds, appearing fast enough to teleport and leave afterimages in his wake.
  • Sterope: By channeling Ki through his skin, Aiden vastly hardens himself, allowing him to toughen his skin and resist piercing attacks like those from Jackie's sword.
  • Merope: By channeling Ki through his inner body, such as his bones, Aiden can loosen himself up, allowing him to bend and twist almost unnaturally to dodge incoming attacks.
